RELEASE & IMPACT 

Following the performance, WHITNEY HOUSTON’s rendition was released as a charity single to support soldiers and their families involved in THE GULF WAR.

The single was re-released after the SEPTEMBER 11 attacks in 2001, with all profits donated to victims and firefighters.

In 1991, after H.W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court, a woman accused Thomas of sexually harassing her while he supervised her at two separate jobs. She was questioned about why she followed Thomas to the second job after allegedly being harassed at the first.

During the hearing, led by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joe Biden, Thomas strongly and completely denied the allegations.

He accused white liberals of trying to stop a Black conservative from joining the Supreme Court simply because he held the wrong political views, calling it a “high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow"
