forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it youâre literally gonna be using that almost every day
This seems like a good post to include this link on:
One buyout firm quietly collected Pyrex, Corelle, Instant Pot, and Oneida. Farberware is a name on a 200-year lease. And the pans still wort
Talking about popular kitchenware companies undergoing enshittification, and gives you a list of brands towards the end that are more reliable.
âEverything above reduces to four rules you can run in about two minutes, standing in the aisle:
Look up the owner, not the name. The name is the cheapest part of the company to preserve. If the ownership trail ends at a private equity firm or a licensing group, assume the product and the reputation are no longer aligned.
Read the warranty before the reviews. Its length is the companyâs own estimate of how long the product lasts, and its exclusions are a list of the ways they expect it to fail.
Buy bare metal where you can. Cast iron, carbon steel, plain stainless. No coating means nothing that dies at cycle 40 and nothing to rebuy in eighteen months.
Distrust a name thatâs on everything. When the same brand appears on your pan, your knives, your toaster, and a box fan, nobody who owns it makes anything.â
Great advice

IV thiamine is supplied in 200 mg vials
IV thiamine is supplied in 200 mg vials
IV thiamine is supplied in 200 mg vials
That 500 mg dose wastes half a vial every time
This is why you need a single pharmacist co-author for guidelines
Why is the following dose 100 mg IV daily
Show me the evidence
We have to throw away the other 100 mg every day and it could be going into your patient
Please god let this info inspire some provider somewhere to start ordering 400 mg IV followed by 200 mg daily
I mean do you really seriously think your patient has Wernickeâs encephalopathy
But if it keeps you from ordering a banana bag I support the thiamine

hotboxing the igloo
aang: would hotbox the igloo
gran gran, toph, kuruk, korra, iroh: would hotbox the igloo so enthusiastically they turn into a stoner comedy
sokka: would hotbox the igloo but only after his summer of love (the events of atla)
suki: would hotbox the igloo especially with sokka
katara: could be talked into hotboxing the igloo, depending on who asked. she would say no to sokka and toph on principle (because they're sokka and toph) but would say yes to gran gran, suki, and aang after some protest
zuko: would not hotbox the igloo as he is scared of being evil when high.
Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
#like there is a line between just talking about your past #and traumadumping #if you're talking about movies and you say something like 'oh yeah when i was inpatient last year i was so frustrated i couldn't see it' #that's just your life #if you interrupt a conversation about a movie you missed while you were in inpatient last year #to start talking about how traumatized you were from being in inpatient and feeling cut off from the world #and going into details about all the things you missed out on and how it's affecting you #that's traumadumping #the key is the context and the presentation #that's my opinion anyway #like yeah you also deserve to be able to talk about the bad stuff too sometimes but again #it's about CONTEXT (tags via @ruffboi-mags )
Yeah, it's also just . . . shit that comes up in conversation.
If there's a conversation where people are talking about high school and ask about my high school experience, there's not really a better way to express "The bullying at my Jr high was really bad and my mental health issues really kicked into high gear, so I dropped out and got my GED and started college early."
That doesn't even really bother me anymore, because it's been more than twenty years - it's not really something I feel emotional about - but it is a fact about my life that happened. I'm not going to lie and make up some kind of high school experience that didn't happen.

She's being so big and brave.
The long awaited sequel.
I have noticed in recent years that men say âno homoâ way less often than they used to when I was in high school at least. Like Iâve witnessed in media and online and in person adult men just willing to say âI love youâ or âyou look greatâ to their guy friends without tacking a no homo onto the end of it.
And if you think thatâs not progress you werenât there in the trenches.
Iâve seen middle aged comedians on national tv sincerely say âI love youâ to their friends with no jokes attached. Nature is so slow to heal but it is possible, I tell you. We have planted trees and seen them survive.
