Hello, and welcome to the Official Tumblr for Gollancz, the oldest dedicated publisher of SFF and Horror fiction in the world.

I set this up because I'm not allowed to touch the company Instagram or TikTok accounts ("you'll break the algorithm" psht) and I got told off for retweeting too much stuff.

We were founded in 1927, and became a specialist SFF imprint in 1962, meaning that we were able to celebrate our 60th birthday and our upcoming 100th birthday only a handful of years apart.

We have a wikipedia page, which makes us feel very Special and Important.

Murray Constantine: Swastika Night (1937)

I cannot emphasise enough how incredible this book is. 1937. It was written before the Second World War, and was a prescient and chilling extrapolation of what could happen.

It predates Nineteen Eighty-Four by a decade.

It's still relevant now.

Currently reading The Burn Line by Jonathan Sims.

I love his horror novels for many many reasons but one of the strongest, as someone who has lived in London for many years, is that when I read his books, I immediately think ‘yes, yes that’s how London feels!’

Makes the horror feel exceptionally real, when I recognise the sights and sounds and smells, when I have memories of these places, when I recognise these people, when I was walking past that specific spot yesterday…

(Also this book is fucking scary, of course)
