B&S ep. 1-6 [Week 1 Roundup]
Hi we’re not dead also this post is so overdue but better late than never amirite
For those who have been following Chinese anime (or donghua), Beryl and Sapphire (aka Green & Blue) started broadcasting on August 27. Therefore, we (the G&B team) have partnered with Guodong Subs to bring you daily English-subtitled episodes of B&S. This might be the only occasion where we release stuff on time :’)
Unlike most anime, Beryl and Sapphire doesn’t follow a linear format. Instead, episodes are updated every day, with each day of the week dedicated to a different setting. The weekday episodes are 5-ish minutes short skits that may or may not follow a continuous plot and the weekend episode is a longer self-contained story that lasts over 20 minutes. You might recognize some of the episodes as chapters we’ve translated before, but it still feels very different to see them animated as humans instead of being static stick figures! (Just remember that Beryl is Green and that Sapphire is Blue and you’re good to go)
Another important thing about B&S is that... it’s a shounen-ai. The manhua was more subtle about this, but the anime made it abundantly clear by episode 3. If you’re not a fan of the genre, you might want to avoid episodes on Monday, Wednesday, and eventually Friday. That’s all that I can say without spoiling anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
