Keep it sloppy. Nobody likes a good blog post.
Goldie Davich, Tips on Blogging and The Art of SeductionÂ
11/1/12 and 1/11/13
Choosing a date to die that may or may not correlate to a blog post about Batman will, I am sure, raise more conspiratorial ramblings than it deserves, but I couldn't resist trying to, in some small way, preemptively nip some of the bullshit in the ass.Â
Aaron Swartz wrote about The Dark Knight on 11/1/12 perhaps as a prelude to his suicide on 1/11/13:
"Thus Master Wayne is left without solutions. Out of options, itâs no wonder the series ends with his staged suicide."
This extremely thoughtful and heartfelt breakdown of TDK succinctly illustrates the nature of corruption and the daunting task of fighting it, all without pointing to the injustices and complicated issues he dealt with in real life. It is subtly and artfully done without drawing parallels to current political events.
My imagination led me to muse that he had planned his suicide well in advance, nothing more. The date coincidence made me think about how suicide is not a flippant response to the world. It can be marked with deep symbolism and done on anniversaries or birthdays that might explain the motive.Â
The Dark Knight series was a huge box office success and it resonated with the counterculture in a profound way. It is rare we get something so popular to give voice to our frustrations. Those who are less thoughtful will consider âthe influenceâ it had on him versus the blatant parable to his real life. Most of us are not literally fighting the government face to face. This man did fight and he chose to be subversive in the face of forces much larger than himself.Â
Some things are just to fucking topical.
(Some will say this is not the time. I disagree. This is the time when every mixed emotion needs to find voice.)
Since his arrest in January, 2011, I have known more about the events that began this spiral than I have wanted to know. Aaron consulted me as a friend and lawyer. He...

F2C2012: Aaron Swartz keynote - "How we stopped SOPA" (by F2C2012)
RIP, Aaron Swartz - by Cory Doctorow My friend Aaron Swartz committed suicide yesterday, Jan 11. He was 26. I got woken up with the news about an hour ago. I'm still digesting it -- I suspect I'll be digesting it for a long time -- but I thought it was important to put something public up so that we could talk about it. Aaron was a public guy... read more
56. Camp taste is a kind of love, love for human nature. It relishes, rather than judges, the little triumphs and awkward intensities of "character." ...Camp taste identifies with what it is enjoying. People who share this sensibility are not laughing at the thing they label as "a camp," the're enjoying it. Camp is a tender feeling.
The High Priest of Camp, John Waters' Christmas Card 2006
Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose Keep planting to find out which one grows It's a secret no one knows It's a secret no one knows Oh, no one knows This is a classic 90's white spiritual by the family boy band Hanson.  This antidotal response to grunge came a little too late to ward off heroin chic but just in time to warm the hearts of those exhausted from disaffection. It's vague inspirational message, terrible lyrics and upbeat melody seemed to really stick out.  I mean shit, it immediately made a million "worst songs ever" lists.  When I listen to this song it is often mistaken as a empty ironic gesture.  I've attached my own meaning to it and revel in it's youthful ignorance.  The camp factor is high and my affection is real.
