Not all of the people reading your x reader fics have white skin
Just a gentle reminder before you write characteristics that assume whiteness and exclude your black/indigenous/poc supporters-specifically in 'x reader' works.
I love and appreciate writers, but this is a recurring avoidable issue (going on for decades now).
"your dusky pink nipples" "your face turned just as red as his" "he could see the blush on your face" “your cheeks furiously blushed” “your ears burn bright red” “The look in your reddened face” “your knuckles white with effort” “bruised purple against your light skin”
Describing the physical feeling instead of the visual change helps include your readers while also elevating your writing IMO.
Anyone can say "Your cheeks turned red with embarrassment" or "Your face flushed" but wouldn't you rather say "A burning heat rushed across your face, from your neck to the tip of your nose, prickling right underneath the surface. You look anywhere but him, hoping your newfound interest in the buildings ceiling tiles will ease the fire tightening beneath your skin" And instead of the other character pointing out that the readers face is red, they can point out the obvious flustered facial expression/body language.
If you want your reader insert to have white/fairskin, then just label them white!reader or put the mention in the warnings/summary.
↪I have reached out to writers I favored/supported before and sometimes I have been met with severe hostility and defensiveness. I often wonder if people are doing this purposefully or for some reason think only white people read their fanfics (?)-if that's the case then be upfront and label your reader inserts as white!reader or something PLEASE. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like black women and other POC aren’t wanted or considered in these fandoms because it comes off like that in your writing. If you need a different motivation, just know you're missing out on more interactions, reblogs, and a bigger reader base. I don’t know why white is the default for so many writers in unspecified x reader/reader insert fics-the people on your blog following, reading, and supporting you aren’t all white and fair-skinned.
I am not talking about OC fics or fics where race/skintone is x specified in summary or warnings. This is specifically about unspecified "x reader" where whiteness is assumed as the default

You met Guts about 3.5 years ago. When you first met Guts, he was extremely rude and standoffish. You weren’t that bothered by it because you assumed you two would never cross paths again, but lo and behold, you two crossed paths over and over again. When the two of you crossed paths you would always strike up a conversation. You were pleasantly surprised when he slowly started to open up, and by "slow," I mean extremely slow. It took him a year to tell you his goals. You then asked him if you could join him on his journey. You practiced magic, more specifically healing spells, so you thought, ‘Why the hell not!’
At first, he warned you, “You see this mark on my neck? It attracts demons. It's not smart to be around me, especially at night. You kept on persisting, and eventually he accepted. “If you die, it’s on you.” That was what he said. Ever since then, you’ve been attacked by demons more times than you can count! How fun..? You were now sitting in the dark, wrapped up in a blanket. You were shivering so much that your teeth were chattering. “Doesn’t lighting a fire help ward off demons??! I swear, if you don’t start a fire, I might place a curse on you!”
“You’re being a big baby.” He detached the cloak from his armor and threw it over to you. You grabbed the cloak and wrapped it around yourself. You put your knees to your chest and laid your head down on top of your knees.
“You know..I could always keep watch. You haven’t slept in a while. You should really get some rest.” He stayed silent. “You know I can protect myself right? I don’t see why I can’t just protect us both.” You were very confident in your abilities. Guts shook his head.
“You can’t handle them alone. Stick to healing.” You gave him a very harsh side eye.
“Doesn’t a warrior need rest? Especially you, you fight demons all day!” He didn’t respond. You sat up from your other position. “You need sleep, Guts. When a demon comes, you’ll know anyway from your brand, and if I need help, you'll already be awake to help me.”
“And what if I don’t step in in time?! You’ll probably be dead.” You didn’t respond.
“Just go to bed.” You stood there for a moment before saying anything.
“Goodnight, Guts.” You walked to the tent and took one glance at Guts before you went inside.
When it broke morning, you felt very refreshed. You stepped out of the tent expecting to see Guts sitting somewhere close, but to your surprise, he wasn’t near. You stretched before you went looking for him. “Guts!” You called out. You walked further out until you finally saw him. He was sitting against a tree covered in wounds. You pursed your lips together at the sight. You proceeded to walk towards him. “Guts, why didn’t you wake me? I could’ve had you healed up.”
“I didn’t want to wake you.” You stood over him, he still looked down. You plopped down on the grass and examined his wounds. You then got straight to the spell. After healing him, you placed yourself beside him. You stayed silent before an idea popped into your head.
“Hey, is there a lake nearby? I could really use a bath, and you could use one as well.” You sniffed him and made a look of disgust, playfully! Sort of…Guts rolled his eyes and sighed. He got up from sitting and waited for you to do the same. “If we are lucky, maybe we can find a cave with a lake inside. Privacy would be nice.” ‘Surely a bath will help him relax.’ “I'll go grab the things we need.”
It took you guys about 20 minutes to find a cave with a lake inside. On the way, you came across many pretty lakes, but you insisted on privacy. You stepped inside the cave. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. You had a big smile on your face. You looked back at Guts and continued, “Surely this will help you unwind.” You began removing your clothes before Guts stopped you.
“H-hey, hold on! I can turn around while you bathe, and then I’ll take my turn.” You swear you saw a faint blush on his face.
You shook your head. “I want to help you relax, Guts. You bathe me I bathe you. I’ll even throw in a massage for you.” Your smile grew even wider. “But of course, if you don’t feel comfortable with that, then I’ll respect it.” Guts grumbled before responding.
“Are you sure you’re okay with this?”
“1,000 percent sure.” Both of you stayed still. You took the initiative and started to remove your clothes. When you finished, you couldn’t help but look down at your feet. You were so confident before, but now it's quite awkward. Guts was staring. You turned and started walking towards the water. You dipped your feet in first to see how cold or hot it was. It was just the right temperature. You submerged your body in the water and turned to face the man once more. “You gonna keep me waiting?”
Guts stared at you for another minute before removing his clothing. He proceeded to join you inside the water. Now it was back to awkwardness. ‘This wasn't supposed to be like this,’ you thought to yourself. You leaned over to grab both your and Guts' bathing supplies. “I'll bathe you first. You need to relax more than I do.” You lathered the washcloth in soap and began to scrub his back.
Guts seemed to loosen up at the action. “Mmm…” he groaned. You were very happy when he loosened up.
“I’m happy that this is helping. You are just so tense all of the time. I just wanted to do something that would help you out, even if it’s just for a moment.” You finished washing his back and ringed out the washcloth. You dipped it in the water and lathered it up again. You now stood in front of him.
“You know, me knowing that you are safe is enough to make me relax.” Your face was hot when you heard him say that. You couldn't even hold back the smile.
You raised an eyebrow at the statement. “Ah, so I didn’t have to do all this? If only you told me sooner.” He placed his hand on the small of your back and pulled you in closer.
“You should know by now that you mean a lot to me. After going through so much loss, if I lost you because of a mistake that I made, then I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. You’re the best thing that’s happened to me in a while.” You lay your head on his chest.
“You mean a lot to me too Guts. I’m just so happy I finally got you to admit this out loud.” Neither of you said anything for a moment. Guts placed a hand on your cheek and leaned down to give you a kiss on the side he wasn’t holding.
“I’m glad to have met you Guts.” You laid your head back down on his chest.
