boys from the dwarf

feeling really emotional about red dwarf tonight (fork found in kitchen). thinking about lister calling rimmer mighty near the start of tpl in a mocking way ("mighty light? more like shitey sprite" etc) but calling him it genuinely by the end. kind of like. kind of like how listy started as a condecending nickname but slowly became more and more affectionate. ohhhhh God

It's crazy how red dwarf just continuously proves that rimmer is exactly lister's type. in gunmen of the apocalypse he says he only falls for heartbreakers or 'moral garbage on legs'. both exes of his we meet (krissie and lise) are shown to be (at least relatively) serious and career oriented. I mean, tftm makes a pretty intentional comparison to lise and rimmer to show how rimmer had way more in common with her than lise and lister ever did. lister himself says he believes in the philosophy of dreaming about kissing someone = you have feelings for them. like... are we sure it isn't intentional

imagine if, to counter dimension-hopping ace rimmer who always saves the day, there’s a dave lister who is an evil mastermind, going about causing the chaos, and the two often meet in fucked-up situations and have more sexual tension between them than a hero and villain ever should.
