“just checking. my brother and sisters would no doubt be starting a lecture by now. which kind of makes me glad they aren’t here, as awful as that may sound.” the brunette eyed the other girl as she took another drag. “yeah, you could say that. nothing to make you feel crappy like working with a bunch of junkies all day. damn i sorta feel sorry for my mom now.”

“it’s not awful, in fact, i’d say it’s pretty normal to not want your siblings around you,” meredith agreed with a shrug of her shoulders, “i don’t know a thing about working with junkies but i’m sure what you do does a whole world of good for those people, not matter how crappy the days are.”

after remembering just how much he’d lost, thor was back to that stage of silently moping around, unsure of what to do or where to go. and with no-one familiar to unburden his woes with, he was beginning to find himself more and more lost. but the sight of one particular figure perked up his mood a little. finishing his beer in one big swoop, thor wiped his mouth against the arm of his shirt before heading over behind him, placing his hands on the shoulders of none other than peter. “little spider. am i glad to see you. i was beginning to think i was the only one on this godforsaken island,” thor beamed, not even stopping to think that peter may not even remember who he was.

listening to her own words for a little moment, edgar nodded at the other, feeling a little bit better. she was right.. everything he had done had been worth it, because.. it had been for evelyn. it had all been for evelyn and.. in the end, that was exactly what made it all worth it in the end. he didn’t regret anything that he had done, because.. all of it had been for her. “i couldn’t agree more. you’re.. i think i was lucky to run into you tonight, meredith. really, really lucky, because.. otherwise, i would just be getting myself drunk, without any idea of how to get back to where i was back then.” pausing at her words, edgar nodded at her, before sighing. “i don’t.. she’s the love of my life. i don’t know how to get her back and i do believe she’d be happier without me, but.. i don’t want to let her go. i know that makes me selfish, but.. it’s just who i am.” he shrugged, before grinning at her. “well, i suppose our friendship is gonna last, isn’t it?”

meredith wondered what it must’ve been like to not only do so many things for the person you loved but to also have someone who was willing to do things for you. she was unlucky in that she hadn’t found that person yet but edgar gave her a small glimmer of hope that perhaps she’d find them someday. and she’d do whatever she could to be with them. “i mean i only told you things as they are but you’re welcome, all the same,” she smiled with a nod of her head, “well start with letting her get to know you all over again. that’s as good as place as any to begin and from there, things will just fall into place, fingers crossed,” she suggested with a shrug of her shoulders, lazily swirling the remaining contents of her shot in its glass. “of course, not to brag but i gave you some decent advice. i’m pretty sure one day sooner rather than later i’m gonna’ need some advice from you about something.”

“i’m sorry to hear that. if it’s any consolation, mine.. mine never told me he loved me. not once. i knew he was a good man, i knew he was a good father, but.. like i said, he wasn’t the most affectionate type. not that i think i’d ever be different if i had a child, though.” he closed his eyes for a moment, before.. shaking the thought away. he had never once thought he could be a good father - thomas wayne hadn’t exactly set an example. “i can promise you i’m not. i’ve never been one to fire anyone, not unless they gave me a very good reason to do so.” he shrugged, turning to the other again for a moment. “feel free to do just that. nothing to hide here.” he grinned.

“don’t be sorry, it’s not your fault. he is who he is,” hardin commented with a shrug, simply choosing to brush over his father for now. he wasn’t in any mood to relive the things his father had done in the past or to explain it to someone else, not matter how much he liked bruce. “you’re almost sounding too good to be true now,” he replied, almost in disbelief. how could he sound like the perfect boss? surely there was more to him than meets the eye. at least, that’s what hardin decided to set his mind on; that perhaps there was more to bruce than he was letting on.

Mike laughed softly when she slid the shot over to him.  “You know I think for tonight I just might be, thanks.”  He did a slight cheers before downing it.  He felt more relaxed when she actually believed him, it made him feel like it wasn’t actually as unheard of as he thought.  “I’ve talked to some of them.  They’re just as confused about what happened as we are.  Like one moment they were killed and the next moment they were awake in their beds.  Like some cruel sick joke.”

“no worries, for tonight, your woes are my woes,” meredith reassured him with an easy smile before continuing to listen. “maybe it was a sick joke but your friends were unaware they played a part in it? y’know like they were drugged or something? there’s a million explanations but it’ll just take time to figure out the right one. but at least you’re not alone. you have your friends.”

beca had found dj gigs to be few and far between lately, so instead she’d been finding herself at the bar, one earbud in as she worked on her next mix. this also led her to meeting a lot of interesting characters, like people who order four shots for themselves all at one, but beca wouldn’t judge. “can’t say my day has been worse than that- but i guess i could join you.” she said, shutting her laptop and tucking her earbuds into her pocket.

“hey if your day wasn’t worse, it means you probably had a better day than mine so tell me about it,” meredith suggested with a smile, sliding one shot in the others direction, “join me,” she offered, already downing her own shot before extending a hand out, “I’m meredith, by the way, good to meet you.”

lexie remembered very little of what life has been before truman, mostly she had nightmares, horrible ones that her friends assured her were just really bad dreams, but god did they ever feel real sometimes… this is what lexie was thinking of while she sat at the bar, unaware that she’d been staring until she was called out for it. “oh- i wasn’t-” she said, trying to cover her tracks, raising her beer to her lips. “sorry, just zoned out.”

meredith smiled after mistaking the other for staring and it wasn’t until she got a proper look at her, that something clicked. a name. “lexie?” she wasn’t quite clear on how she knew her name, but she looked familiar and even her voice was familiar. but meredith couldn’t quite put her finger on how exactly she knew her. “have we met before?”

“i wanted to be like my father. he was never the most affectionate man, but.. he was a good father. a really good father, because.. he taught me everything there is to know about life. whatever i am today.. i owe it all to him.” he commented, running a hand through his hair, before turning to the other. “english literature, you say? well, we could always get you a place at wayne enterprises, in the communication department. not to.. brag, but.. we pay very well.” he nodded a little bit, offering hardin a smile. “sure thing. just tell me when and.. we’ll set up an hour. i’m sure you’ll love it - there’s no doubt in that.” he commented, offering hardin a little smile. “good. i think.. we could work very well together, hardin. thank about that, alright? i promise you won’t regret it.” he could make sure the kid had a great future.. he liked him already, that was certain.

“that’s admirable. having a father you looked up to. mine is .. well, better left unspoken about,” hardin nodded, eyes darting to the ground, in a bid to swiftly move away from the topic of fathers. “huh, well i have to say, you have me hooked. once we have that tour, i’ll definitely consider. you don’t seem too bad a boss,” he admitted honestly, not ever knowing a man like bruce before. someone who actually believed in him for once instead of judging him beforehand. “might have to speak to some of your employees first though,” he joked, lightly nudging the other with amusement, already feeling comfortable enough to do so.
