Metroid first released in japan 40 years ago.
Happy 40th to the game that would lay the foundations for one of my favourite genres.
This piece is traditional and made using copic markers and ink.
For Sonic the Hedgehog 1's 35th anniversary I decided to give some low poly modelling and animation a try using Picocad2. Over the course of the month I modelled all 14 Badniks, 6 of Robotnik's Eggmobile Machines, the Blue Blur himself and a handful of items.
It was a super fun themed challenge and I really enjoyed my time with it. I've got one more Sonic 35th anniversary themed project planned for later in the year so you'll have to stay tuned.
Thanks again for everyone who stuck with the project and I hope you enjoy what's next!
We made it to the goal!
Thanks everybody for sticking with me during this low poly Sonic 35th anniversary modelling month. We got all 14 badniks, 6 diabolical egg-mobile monstrosities, a handful of items, and the blue blur himself. I'll see if I can put together a post collecting everything together soon. I have another small illustration project planned for the 35th later in the year so stay tuned for that, otherwise we're on to other things!
Dr. Robotnik's convoluted concoctions have all been turned to scrap and South Island is saved. All thanks to the heroic efforts of the blue blur himself Sonic the Hedgehog!

For Scrap Brain Zone the genius Dr. Robotnik had to pull out his ultimate invention, a human sized hydraulic press. You might ask why not fire every press at the same time ensuring victory? The answer is simple, for dramatic flair!
The passive plan in Labyrinth Zone failed, so now it's time to bring out the cannon that shoots spike balls that also explode on to a series of teeter totters, a simple solution for Star Light Zone.
"A true genius never expends effort where it is unnecessary. Why create a spectacular invention to stop the hedgehog when the traps of Labyrinth zone will do the work for me" -Dr. Robotnik (probably)
Spring Yard Zone was dangerous enough without Dr. Robotnik's Egg Stinger breaking away the ground beneath you.
Marble Zone is already overflowing with lava but Dr. Robotnik decided to add even more fire to the flames with the not at all redundant, and brilliantly designed, Egg Scorcher.

Green Hill Zone is in trouble now that Dr. Robotnik is swinging through with a giant wrecking ball.
After I finished the Sonic 1 Badniks I couldn't call this project complete without including the big bad egg man himself and his technological inventions of questionable function.
Crabmeat is scuttling to destroy any blue hedgehogs in the area.
That's the last Sonic 1 Badnik on the roster, we've dealt with all the Robotic Badnik's, what's next some kind of... Robot nik? Hope you've been enjoying these I've had a lot of fun making them so far.
Was there something there? Was it just the air? Or was it Newtron, the Badnik with the creepy invisible stare?
Only 1 more Sonic 1 Badnik left on the roster.
When the Roller Badnik pops up it's trouble for Spring Yard Zone.
Only 2 more Badnik's left for the Sonic 1 roster!
They see Spike's rollin', they hatin'
Back to Badniks today with Spikes. Only a few more left in the Sonic 1 roster.

The 6 glorious chaos emeralds, I sure hope this is all of them and there isn't an extra one kicking around somewhere to do some kind of super secret stuff...
Had to take a detour from Badnik modelling today so here's some fun powerful gemstones. Enjoy!
If falling in the water wasn't bad enough, now you gotta deal with the Badnik Jaws.
Only a couple more Sonic 1 Badniks to go, had a lot of fun with this one.
