oil painting work in progress on weld-able sheet. 10x10”. this one is about generational trauma and memory. i found this dead yellow warbler outside of work last october (2025) i later found the sparrow that is the subject of my most recent painting. The yellow bird is significant as my great-grandfather loved birds. his favorites were humming birds and yellow finches. At the time, i was reflecting on my past, and family history. that year was intense as the first major wave of the growing fascist presence in america hit. My great grandparents were victimized by the Nazi occupation in Poland in the 1940s. they were only 18 and 16 when they met in a labor camp in Germany. My maternal grandmother was conceived and born in said camp. I learned st around this time that generational trauma does exist. the body adapts to what it has experienced and passes on the information to future generations. as i was toying with the parallels between my personal life, and the on-going’s of our world, i find the bird. i took it as a spiritual sign

process pictures. pushing and pulling. wondering about the color. recently put a dark wash over the color and accentuated the glow around the bird. i felt the color was too much. i want to depict energy in a subtle but powerful way. i’m thinking of sanding or scrubbing the glaze off in some places to show the color underneath.
