I have a very confident answer for Bert, which is that a bunch of people just flat-out miss him when they play the game and never get a chance to interact with him. This happened to me during my first two playthroughs of New Vegas. His dialogue is also bugged (depending on what version of the game you're playing, I believe), so you don't even get to hear his backstory when you do talk to him. He's interesting, but if the game doesn't show you that, you never know!

Definitely well within the confines of the "no bummers" rule, so no worries there, Anon. Honestly, me not wanting to write on especially dark topics mostly only applies to my actual prose. I don't have much problem addressing sadder/darker stuff when it comes to the rankings, since it doesn't involve nearly as much emotional investment. I've definitely been incorporating more angst, etc. into my long-form writing for the last year or so, but it's just not something I can handle a ton of on a consistent basis. I spend too much time crying about my sad ideas and not actually writing, lol!

Carnal Lessons is still one of my longest one-shots (AKA "if I make it one chapter, it's one chapter") to date, I think, and I'm still pretty fond of it, too, so it's good to hear you enjoy it!

I was waiting for someone to ask this question when I made that assessment about Nick, honestly. I think his response to this kind of thing would be sort of complex and depend on a lot of different factors, so I knew I'd need a little more space to discuss it.

In truth, it's not that difficult to make Nick feel jealousy. Despite his cool demeanor, he can be rather insecure in his role as a boyfriend, a partner. He doesn't see himself as having everything a partner would deserve, depending on the day, so it's pretty easy for someone who seems like they do to come along and make him feel threatened. Boo hoo. He's an adult, knows that his insecurities are not your problem, and does his best to act in accordance with that knowledge. He might get a bit quiet on you sometimes, but you may think he's just distracted, wrapped up in that familiar sort of melancholy you can so often feel from him. Most of the time he'll have quietly talked himself out of it within a short time, so you don't think much of it.

The real feat is making him so jealous that it becomes noticeable.

It's not that Nick is perfectly calm as he watches someone else hit on you or whatever it is; in fact, it's quite the opposite. He's pissed, both for him and for you, but if anyone has the emotional control to remain level-headed despite their personal feelings, it's Nick. He knows that if he made a stink every time some random trader or guard made a pass at you, he'd be making a total jerk of himself with great regularity. He's not keen on that idea, both because it's unbecoming and because he feels like he's lost something to someone if they manage to actually upset him. He's better than that.

Still, he has his limits.

I don't necessarily see Nick as the sort of partner who would be upset with you for being the object of someone else's attraction/affection. Like Benny Gecko, he's more apt to see whoever has their eye on you as the problem. He's not one for starting fights over personal matters...but that doesn't mean he won't use strategic, more subtle moves against anyone who's managed to catch his eye in that adversarial way.

Also like Benny, Nick will be a bit obsessive over the idea of proving to you (and himself) that you're his if he's feeling jealous. He can be a bit mean in bed anyway, a big fan of making and enforcing rules, but the way he overstimulates you to tears while making you say his name over and over can be quite taxing if he pulls it too often. If he were less socially aware, he'd be all over you in public. Instead, he lets his possessiveness build up until he can let it out in private.

Ranking Ghouls' (and Companions'!) Reactions to Prissy/Bratty Vaultie

Has the patience of a saint. You'd have to cross a pretty serious line to get them to the point of actually being mad or wanting to punish you. Harold, Gob, Patchwork, Winthrop, Fawkes, Bessie Lynn, Tulip, Bert Gunnarsson, Jason Bright (though he does build a lot of silent resentment if you push him too much), Arlen Glass, Holly (she's also kind of a brat), Curie, Preston Garvey (even if he does find it abrasive when you go overboard)

Patient, but not endlessly so. Definitely has a point where they'll happily put you over their knee or whatever they deem appropriate if you act like a brat. Lenny (VERY rare, but not impossible), Doctor Barrows, Charon, Quinn, Moira Brown (though if you make her mad enough she definitely just gives you the silent treatment for a day or two), Private Kyle Edwards, Raul Tejada, Rotface, Arcade Gannon (but his patience is begrudging and he lacks the follow-through to actually punish you 99.99% of the time; he'll just sulk or make a jape about it to your face), Edward Deegan, Ham, John Hancock, Tommy Lonegan, Wiseman, Cait, Deacon (not the type to punish you, exactly, but more the type to figure out how to get you to come crawling), Gunther Jenkins, Cooper Howard

Their level of patience for your antics depends on the day. Easygoing some days, more punitive on others. I agree completely. Cooper would already have to have a really high level of comfort with/trust in you for him to even get to the point where the two of you are sleeping together, so you'd have at least a slight foundation to build the whole "I'm not mad you passed out" claim on. He'd still be really embarrassed and pretty down on himself for it, but you could sweet-talk him out of that mindset if you're sly enough.
