he starts getting up from his raft and sort of paddling to get closer to paul’s. and paul’s okay with it until patrick starts trying to stand up 

paul: you’re not actually coming—oh my god patrick what the hell—

patrick tries get into paul’s raft with him which never would have worked but he does try. unfortunately, when he puts his foot on the wet donut float, he slips and the weight of him ejects paul from his float, martini and all (“PATRICK!), and patrick falls headfirst into the now empty space, effectively drowning himself
