Not your Average Bartender

“Thank you for saying so, at least.” She replied, glancing away. “I’m glad to hear it from you.”

“Walsh. Didn’t they tell you?”

He flashes Eric a dazzling smile.

“I’m a high-functioning alcoholic. Everyone knows that.”

At which point the burn hits his tongue.

“Uh-huh that’s what they all say. And then they walk out of here swaying.”

He chuckles back.

“Buddy, I’ve woken up on more floors–in more countries–than you can count.”

And he takes another slug, wincing through his bravado.

“Where’ve you been?” She asked, secretly wishing she could return the kiss.

“Cheers.”

He tosses a twenty in Walsh’s general direction.

“Christ, that burns.”

He laughs and pockets the twenty.

“You’re back! I missed you so much.”

“Just get me drunk.”

He rubs his temples.

“I’ll tip you extra tomorrow if I don’t remember any of this.”

“Alright but don’t say I didn’t warn you beforehand.” 

He shrugs his shoulders, turns his back to grab a bottle of rum, vodka, tequila, gin, and blue curacao, sweet and sour and oddly enough a can of lime soda. He sets them down and bends to pick up a glass, once he finishes mixing the drinks he turns back around the biggest grin on his face and sets it down in front of his customer.

“Do I have anything better to do?”

He settles with a groan into the barstool, leaning heavily over the bar.

“Give me the strongest you’ve got.”

Eric laughs heartily placing his hands against the counter. “And here I thought you were too good for my bar.”
