it's been a while since the last update on this game's progress AND I actually have a little more news to share, so now seemed liked a good time to write another devlog !
as you know, I've been gradually re-writing the entire script with Null as the new protagonist, and as of last night I have officially finished writing... the first act of the game!
so yeah slight update on this game's story... the game is now split into 5 main acts, with the 1st one (as I just said) being fully written. I can't really go into detail about what this means without spoiling anything though...
there's also been some new additions to Spectey and Poppy's routes that help flesh that part of the game out more, and I really like how those are turning out so far!
I also wrote a scene near the end of the game that made me cry when I first played through it but that's not important yet okay
one more thing... with how the flow of the writing and production is going so far, I'm finally confident enough to place down a release window for the game. which is not this year! (absolutely no chance I'm getting this finished within the next 3 months)
but I think if I work hard enough, ghost friends could finally release... in 2026.
(but we'll see...)

Like I mentioned last time, I finally got a new iPad! Meaning I've finally been able to continue drawing art for the game, even if most of them are just rough sketches so far.

Speaking of sprites, I've started actually adding them into the game and figuring out placements, including textbox sprites!
(except the project i used to test the sprite sizes has a bigger resolution than the actual game so all of the sprites are too big so i'm gonna have to resize them all oops)
As for the music, it's almost done. Usually I have a habit where if I need new music for a new scene I’ve just written, I'll just make the music straight away. I just have a few more songs to make for the most recent new scenes.

Finally, the most important news… The rough script for the game? Yeah. Well. It turns out…
IT'S PRETTY MUCH FINALLY DONE
All the endings have been written out, and now I just need to go back and check typos and such. I have to admit, for me writing the script has probably been the hardest part, but I'm really happy with how it's turned out so far.
Although I have to admit, I might not be making a demo after all. The game's only about an hour or two long and feels a little short to release a demo for. I can say with certainty though, that the game will release this year!
(or at the very least, early 2024. screenshot if this ages poorly i guess)
Now, about m o n e y.
I do plan on offering a paid option for the game. You'll be able to download and play the whole thing for free, but if you buy the game, you'll get the full soundtrack and art collection! (the soundtrack will also be avalible to buy separately) Still haven't figured out a price yet, but maybe around £5? It'll be easier to decide once the game is fully complete.

Hello again! It's time for another devlog!! (insert crowd cheering sound effect)
I don't have as much to share this time, since like I said I've been pretty busy with things like college. Â Usually, I would use any spare time in IT to work on Ghoster, but recently I've started an animation unit and, uh, yeah, animantion takes a very long time to do... I've also had slight technical difficulties since the device I use for all the art and music is getting old and running out of storage, BUT I will be getting a new one in about a month so that's good!!!
Despite all this, I've still been able to make some progress. I'm still working on the script, and I think I've figured out what the endings will be and how they'll all work. Â I've also managed to make more progress with the different story routes since the last update. Here, have a preview of the Spectey route where they drink tea together (Player doesn't know what tea is):
This is going to be the kind of game full of decisions you can make that end up having some impact later on, whether it be a small joke or call-back, or completely changing the story and ending.
The artwork for the game is also slowly being made, including the new Ghoster sprites!

It’s officially 2023! Maybe this is the year that Ghoster finally releases…
To start this year off, and because it’s been so long since I’ve made a Ghoster devlog, I thought I’d recap any news and updates regarding the Ghoster game! In fact, decided I’ll keep making small production updates like this every few months from now on.
The biggest news is that production officially begun again!
Like I wrote in my last devlog, the original trio of games has been scrapped, and a brand new version is being made! The story is pretty much the same as what the 3rd game was planned to be. There's a very high chance of a demo coming out further into production, but that probably won't be until the whole script is finished. And as of October last year, the new script is now finally further into the story than the old demo was! Which means brand new, never seen before Ghoster plot is being written!!!
Next, lets talk about the soundtrack.
Just like everything else in this game, it's being completely remade! In fact, you can listen to the songs 'Your Friend Ghoster' and 'Welcome Back' that have already been teased on YouTube:
There's also the brand new art and character designs! (please ignore the slightly inconsistent art styles)
First up we have Ghoster. He’s more blue now!! He also has more marks on his body and darker coloured arms.
Next is Caterpillar! Her design hasn’t changed much other than the extra pink ears/nose and white belly.
The one who’s probably changed the least, we have Poppy’s design! Pretty much the same, just bigger hair/eyes, different shades of colours and a nose bump!
And here is Spectey! Not only has the spelling of his name been changed, so has his design. He has hair now! And his bow-tie has little eyes now!! And he still has his fancy top hat.
Finally, the character who has changed the most. From starting out as just an insert into the story for the reader to becoming their own entire character, we have Player! Unfortunately I don’t have a character sheet yet, so this collection of drawings will have to do for now. yes the yellow and grey placement is very inconsistent i know

Now, as much as I love making this game, and how much I would love to get it finished this year, there’s also a lot of things keeping me busy as well, including managing my Etsy, working on Object Melody, and college. I know I’ve been working on this for a very long time, and I just want to say thank you so much to those who have stuck around this long and been so patient!! I can’t wait for you all to finally get to play this story.
