Giselle takes the seat perpendicular to Savannah, reaching for one of the spare menus as she listens to her friend's very vague recap of her new beau. There's not an infinite supply of men Savannah Fell would find acceptable partners, and Giselle can eliminate several of them by the glimpses she's seen, but there's still a handful of options. It wasn't until this week that she'd settled on Jeremiah Brighton, the pediatrician that she and Violet noticed recently stopped reacting "š" on their Polagram stories and this weekend changed his relationship status to taken. Giselle nods without thinking, because she does understand the very same desire, and she's confident enough in her detective skills that it's not particularly a secret in the first place. Despite her practiced ability to keep up with the high society of Virtue's implied meanings and passive tendencies, Giselle is entirely unaware that perhaps some of her own secrets aren't as concealed as she believes either, and any intended meaning goes right over her head.
"Well, I'm happy for you! I'll assume he checks all the boxes? High-ranking, attractive, ambitious, at least semi-decent at conversation, looking for a blonde wife?" she teases, referencing an old goal list they'd all made up years back over wine. The last she checked, Jeremiah's a close match. He's simply rather... quiet, a bit of a homebody, and she won't ruin Savannah's fun by admitting she knows. "What will we even talk about now? ... Do you think it would be outrageous if we tried to drag Violet out of mourning this summer? Maybe a blind date?" Alright, so maybe it's impossible to keep Giselle away from a layered scheme after all... Sue her for enjoying a little entertainment!
As Giselle lists off what are honestly only the bare minimum criteria for someone Savannah would consider tying herself socially to, the phrase looking for a blonde wife strikes home certainly. Well Xavier probably did have a thing for blondes considering his history, but that worked in their favor in terms of selling their relationship as real. "Yes, yes, yes, arguably better than semi-decent, and yes." Her lips curl into a devilish smile. "Truly, he's been spoiling me. The other day more flowers showed up to my office than I even know what to do with." She'd said to make the courting dramatic, and he'd taken that to heart clearly.
"I'm sure there will be plenty of other relationship drama to discuss, if not our own pursuits. Hiraeth's gossip mill never stops turning after all." She took a deep sip of her drink, before thoughtfully pressing a finger to her lips. "I think we might be able to manage that. It's high time she got over Frank considering she was always out of his league."
"You think so? I try to use good shit on it. My brother makes fun of how much time I spend on my hair, though," Matty admitted, unable to fight off his grin because, fuck yeah, someone actually noticed! Though Elya's later comment made his grin falter in favor of an expression that portrayed much more confusion. "Wait. For real? You think someone would like, be out to get me or something?"
Elya started waving her hands wildly not wanting him to get the wrong idea. "No I don't think someone would be mad about it. I just worry about sympathetic choking. I've definitely seen it happen before." She relayed the explanation to him, trying to impart the urgency of not eating a whole banana in front of someone. "I think it would apply to all food like that you know. You can show off to me though! I don't have a gag reflex, so I can't sympathetic choke." She grinned widely, unaware of the implications of what she had just announced.
Christian was sat in his office going over his latest cases when Sen walked in, causing him to look over, eyebrows knitted at the question. "I think we're all a little selfish sometimes... what's brought this on?" He asked.
Suddenly Sen was looking anywhere besides at Christian. They didn't want to talk about their mom, or how they knew better to look at the reflections in the water during the changing but still got caught up in it anyways. "I just... don't understand people sometimes. Got worried I guess."

@gh0st-towns / closed starter / sen volkov setting: jonah's place ā§ļøĀ ā Our muses bump into each other and my muse is now the opposite of their current gender! Ā If your muse is gender fluid or agender you pick what happens.
It was late, and Jonah had been quietly working on dinner for the two of them when he heard Sen step into the kitchen. āYou better not be trying to sneak up on me,ā he said with a low chuckle, stirring the sauce in the pot. āIāll catch you every single time.ā It wasnāt the first time heād ended up cooking them a late dinner, and it wouldnāt be the last.
Setting the spoon aside, he turned and leaned back against the stove, tilting his head at the sight of them. āCome here.ā He opened his arms, drawing them in, but the second they touched, something shifted.
āWhat justāā He cut himself off, a hand clamping over his mouth. āWhat the fuck?ā Again, the voice that had come out of him was wrong. Jonah went still, eyes dropping to his hands this time as he stepped away from them. He flexed his fingers once, slow, like the movement might correct everything else about him. And still, nothing changed. "Sen?"
It seemed like some days Jonah was single-handedly keeping Sen fed. It wasn't that they didn't like food, the opposite if anything. But they were often so absorbed in what they were doing that they simply forgot to eat.
They had been trying to sneak up on him, convinced that if they tried enough times one would have to be a success. Today just wasn't the lucky day. "Caught again.... One of these days my stealth training will pay off." They nodded seriously as if they had the capability to do anything quietly. Still they gladly stepped into his embrace.
Of course this was the first time that hugging Jonah had turned him.... into a girl. "Hey, uh Jogo, have you been messing with the gender tonics? I kind of thought that was my thing." Their eyes swept up and down his body. "You're a hot girl though, I'll give you that."

Elya appears more confused than Reuben. Reuben is already straightening, preparing to seek out an employee and alert them that a child is clearly missing from their parents. However, Elya speaks up, her words the very last thing Reuben could possibly have expected to hear. āWhat?ā Itās all he can manage as he stares between the child and Elya. āTogether?ā Surely he can string together more than single word sentences, and heās certainly trying. Reuben blinks, shaking away what he believes to be one of the worst accusations someone could lodge at him. Heād never abandon a child like he was abandoned, would never have a child in the first place to be given the opportunity, already had his hands full having raised his younger siblings. Yet, even as he shakes his head, he canāt ignore the way she waves her little hand in excitement at him, the way her eyes are as vibrant as Elyaās. He shakes his head once more, frozen in place.
Elya isn't... entirely naive. She's like 90% sure she and Reuben have never had sex. She's forgetful, but considering her history she's pretty sure she would remember if she had sex with a man. And had a child. Her slightly brain might have been a bit like swiss cheese with memories, but those would have been pretty big events to forget. She's thinking through her own memories absently as she leans down to pick the girl up, resting her against her hip. "I don't know how to explain it. I don't... remember. But she... she feels a little like me and a little like you?" Elya herself is sandalwood and dandelions, rays of sunlight peeking through leaves. Reuben has always reminded her of cedar, the warmth of a crackling fireplace, the calm moment in the midst of a thunderstorm. She looks up at him, eyes widening. "I don't really know how to take care of a child."
"What a forward question." Xavier smirks as he mimics Savannah's own gesture, resting his elbows on the edge of the far end of her desk to do the same. "And what would happen if I said that I did, in fact, consider the absence of your company?" The smirk only widens as he rests his chin on his own hands. "Hypothetically, of course. Would it have been mutual?"
His mimicry does make her grin widen. Xavier is ridiculous in many of the best ways, and it's nice to see him again. "Always the charmer, you are." She put on a performance of really thinking about his questions. "I wonder when it is you miss me the most... Breaks in your teaching schedule, meal times. Perhaps you think of me most alone at night." The last sentence leaves Savannah's lips nearly a purr. "It could be mutual. Hypothetically." It's fun, playing the game against someone else who's fully aware that they are playing, and is well versed themselves. Still, if he just wanted to flirt with her he needn't have sought her out at work specifically. "Still, I believe you came here for a reason other than flattering me, not that I'm complaining."
Vince was probably on his 3rd or 4th cup of coffee and definitely needed to stop before his heart stopped at this point. He was a walking disaster but especially lately. And, as fate would have it, a much nicer glass of peppermint tea appears in front of him. He furrowed his brows in confusion, glancing at the glass and back up again. "Do I owe you anything? I didn't order this." He rubbed the spot between his eyes. "I'm sorry. Forgot my manners. Thanks. This is nice. Swell."
She waved away the question, not intending to ask for repayment. "No worries, it's one cup of tea." Barely a few credits, not that Elya really considered things like that. She'd probably go bankrupt helping others before even considering to save her money. Still, the steam was already pushing some of the ghosts around him away and it made her smile, even if she was probably the only one who could see them. "If it makes you feel good that's all the thanks I need."
Laurie really didnāt have to give much photography direction to Elya, which couldnāt be said for some other people in the city. One time she asked that happy-go-lucky sunshine boy from Frenchieās ā Justin or Josh or whatever the hell ā to take a photoshoot of her on the corner block. Long story short, he sucked at the task and it was a miracle she didnāt strangle him. After posing in model mode by the willow tree, Laurie came strolling back to get her drink. She furrowed her brow at the comment, glancing over at Elya before just shrugging. āYou wanted to drag me to your farm and show me something with your pig or goat or whatever, I donāt know.ā
The goat! Of course. He'd started doing the cutest thing and she'd been intent on showing Laurie and making her appreciate just how adorable he was. Plus he was soft. Of course most people would know an animal that was going to try and eat Laurie's clothing was unlikely to be well received. Still, if anyone could make her like a goat it would be Elya Yildiz. "I can't believe I forgot something so important! Come on the barns await!"

Where was the respect? Where was the fear? Or was this how everyone saw Maxie now? As someone they could come to and act like this? So jovial. So carefree. He could sort of respect it, after all, didn't he act the same with everyone else. And then Maxie realised he was staring, hadn't registered a single thing the guy had said about his no doubt traumatic past. "Uh, right, sure." He shook his head. Distraction over. "Music's too loud ain't it?" He turned, heading towards the stairs leading to his office, prompting with a quick motion of his hand for the stranger to follow.
Sen followed Maxie up to the office as they always did, though it seemed much easier with long legs. Perhaps the stairs were to slow down his shorter intruders. Sen would have to keep that in mind. "I always tell you it is." They huffed their way into his office, dropping into a chair and leaning back. Tucking their legs underneath themself would be difficult as they were, so they stretched them out, allowing themself the gender euphoria inducing action of properly manspreading. "At least the light show is toned down. The combination used to be nauseating sometimes."
"What's one more thing?" Reuben remarks, mostly to himself, but there's the barest hint of a chuckle. It's better tequila than he's ever been able to afford access to in Vice, but in this particular moment he's far too tired to feel bitter over Virtue's privileges tonight. In silence, he peels off his drenched sweater to reveal a .... slightly less drenched black fitted t-shirt. "May I?" He gestures to the sink he intends to wring the sweater out in, as if dryers do not exist.
If he watches her take the shot, it's merely out of curiosity. "Ah. We're licking our wounds in a literal sense," he says, the corner of his lips quirking upward in amusement. He doesn't have the slightest idea why she seems off tonight, but Reuben's also unfortunately referencing his own feelings towards his little sister growing up, needing him less. Enough so that with one raised brow in something like mockery or challenge, he crosses the room and with great attention to detail, mimics her exact steps of a tequila shot. He only shakes his head one in distaste for something that isn't his liquor of choice, but it's certainly smoother than a cheap, gold tequila he'd tried once. "What has you taking shots of tequila with unpleasant company in the rain? Don't Virtues adore weddings?"
His sardonic remark doesn't go unnoticed, but it does go unaddressed. Somehow without either of them intending, there had become sort of a silent understanding or maybe Savannah was imagining it. If she was honest with herself, and she rarely was, it was sort of cathartic to be able to talk to someone and know that nothing would be used against her. How could it? What important virtue would take the word of Reuben Valencia over hers? He didn't even use social media. She didn't need to impress him, and frankly didn't want to. "You know I have a dryer..." She quirked an eyebrow, but waved her hand as if saying to do as he pleased.
Rather than be perturbed by his comment, Savannah fixes him with a smirk from her seat on the floor. "Very Vice of you to fixate on what I was doing with my mouth Valencia." She's comfortable again, using charisma as a shield, but of course he manages to pinpoint exactly what she didn't want to address. A deep sigh escapes her before the blonde leans forward and pours another shot, tipping it back in the same manner as the first before letting her head fall back against the couch behind her. "I do, you know. Adore weddings." She thinks of how overjoyed Beverly had looked, the energy of all of the well-wishers, the euphoria of just being a girl on the dance floor surrounded by friends. Even the weird toktik dance that Matty and his weird friend kept doing brought a smile to her face. Then she thinks about her date, who she'd been hoping was actually going to give her a chance darted off after one of her "best friends". How he came back without his jacket, which could have been fine if he hadn't also excused himself shortly thereafter. She'd walked herself home after all. She doesn't notice herself reaching over to her left ring finger, where there had been an engagement ring once.
She hasn't answered his question, letting silence fall between them as she gets lost in her thoughts. Finally she blinks, refocusing on her own living room. "I guess that I decided unpleasant company was better than none." And because she can't let it stay like this, serious or honest, she's quick to follow up. "I'm quite impressed that you acknowledge what a chore it is to spend time with someone so dour. I didn't realize you possesed that kind of self-awareness."
