Summary- Newly promoted to race engineer, she’s under pressure to keep the championship alive. A virtual dating game meant as an escape soon becomes unexpectedly helpful in the garage.
There is little to no Oscar, it will come, I assure you
Your POV
I was a race engineer for McLaren since I'd graduated and having worked with Lando Norris for the entirety of my career at McLaren.
I only had 24 hours in a day of which I spent 8 to 9 hours working, 1 hour commuting, 2-3 hours of cooking and eating, 6-8 hours of sleep, 2-3 hours of any work I had left and that left me with only a couple hours of the day for myself; which I believed should be spent doing what I love, watching a show or movie or relaxing and pampering myself. I had a routine going, an iron clad one. I'd come home, rid myself of my work clothes and either cook something or order take out before snuggling into the sofa for a good watch. Why would I want to change anything up from my schedule?
Today was like any other day, I clocked in to work. It was the week after the Chinese grand prix. I walked towards the building when I saw Oscar Piastri, Lando's teammate and rival. I greeted him politely to which he made not much of a reaction, making me question myself. I almost ran, mostly speed walked into the building. I placed my stuff on the table when one of my co-workers nudged me; "Did you hear?" she asked. I looked at her intrigued, "About what?" "Will's going on leave for some personal reasons" she explained. "Why? What happened?" I asked, pulling my phone out; there was a message from Zak. I flipped the phone over and showed it to her, "Why do you think he wants to see me?" I asked. She just shrugged, "Maybe it's about Will" "Maybe" I nodded and headed to Zak's office.
Zak greeted me with a warm smile, "Hello Y/N" he stood up. "Morning, Zak" I walked into his office and took a seat. Zak's smile felt ominous. I tried to smile back but it just made me uneasy. "I'm not sure if you've heard" Zak began, my heart was beating fast, I wasn't ready to hear what he had to say. "Will's taking time off, due to some personal reasons so" he trailed; at this point my mind was blank, I wasn't sure what he had planned. "We did some brain-storming and came to the conclusion that you should be Lando's race engineer" he finished. "Who is the we?" I almost shouted. Zak looked at me sternly, "I-I'm sorry, I meant, I'm still learning. Wouldn't it be better to have some one else step in? I'm sure someone from Oscar's team could help us till Will is back." I tried to reason. Zak held his head down, "We don't know when Will will return so we must try to make the transition as smooth as possible for Lando considering he is the title lead right now" Zak explained. I sighed, "I don't think I'm competent enough." "Yes, you are Y/N. Remember last year after Qatar, it was your words which encouraged Lando and look how it got us the championship last year. You've watched him grow through his rookie years, you're the only person I trust" he said, "and the only person who can handle his emotions" Zak mumbled the last part. "What did you say?" I asked, not catching the last part. "You can do it" he held his two thumbs up and ushered me out. I groaned loudly as the door closed and I walked back dejectedly as I made eye contact with Oscar.
Lando's great, I love working with him but he an become a little too much sometimes and I didn't want to be the one bearing the brunt of the strategising. As I was pondering my next move, Lando walked up to me and gave me a big hug. "Can't wait to work with you" Lando mumbled. I returned the hug and patted his back, "yeah" I replied. Lando pulled back and walked away, there was so much to do and so little time with the Japanese grand prix fast approaching. The rest day was spent going over stuff, taking over the notes from Will via email. We spent the rest of the time leading up to the race planning and looking at the simulation. Lando was in the lead but Oscar was right behind.
The next day when I returned to work, I was greeted by Zak with a man I'd never seen before. Both me and Lando were ushered into a room along with the mystery man and Zak. "He's from a gaming company. They're gonna be one of the sponsors for Lando" Zak explained. I smiled as the man handed me his business card. "Boyfriend on demand?" I squinted at the card. "Yes, we have a virtual reality simulation where you can date anyone and we wanted to work with Mr Norris, so that we can get his likeness into the game" he elaborated. I just nodded along trying to understand why I was also here and turned to Lando who just nodded. The meeting ended soon after.
As I left the room, "Can I have a word with you?" the boyfriend on demand representative asked. I just nodded. He took us along to the cafeteria in the building and we sat at one of the tables. He pushed a box towards me. "What is this?" I asked, opening the lid. "It's the game. It's only in beta testing but we would really appreciate if you could review it for us" he suggested. "Review?" I quizzed. "This is targeted towards working women, so we believe it would be nice to get someone such as yourself to test it out" he tried to explain it to me. I wasn't very sure, I had a lot on my plate right now and reviewing a game wasn't on the top of my priorities. "You can....test it out, just for a month, please" he begged. I thought for a moment and accepted the box. "Okay, I'll give you my review once I'm done" I complied, rubbing a hand on my neck, confused as to how I always find myself in these situations. I took the box and left.
That day, when I got home, curiosity got the better of me; I decided to check the game out. After a bit of setting up, I was able to get the game started. I placed the VR type of thin looking head piece on my head and pressed the on button. Within seconds I was transported into a quiet cafe, the barista was busy making coffee, I looked down to find a cup of coffee in my hand. I raised the cup to take a sip to see if I could taste food in the simulation when I felt someone push me, the coffee fell down my shirt. Before I could even turn back to see who it was, a tall, handsome man with an apologetic smile stood in front of me, "I'm so sorry, let me get you a new one" he apologised. "The coffee or the shirt" I retorted clearly annoyed. "Both" he replied instantly. He looked me up and down and smiled, "I'm Joshua Pearce" he raised his hand up to me. That's when I saw a bubble on top of his head, 'Congratulations on meeting your first date. Would you like to continue your date with Joshua Pearce?'
I didn't know what to do and I wanted some time out. How was I supposed to leave? That's when everything went black and a lady appeared in front of me. "Hi, I'm your dating manager but you can call me Annie" she smiled. "Where am I?" I asked. "Inside boyfriend on demand" she explained. "You wanted a way to exit the game, right?" she asked, but before I could nod a ring appeared on my thumb. "Just take that off whenever you want to log out" she pointed at my ring. "That's it?" I asked. "Yup" she nodded and pushed me towards a door that had just formed and nudged me in. That brought me back to Joshua Pearce. He looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger to it. Did they get actors to lend their faces for the game? Was this what they planned with Lando? Since I didn't reply to Joshua, he tilted his head and looked at me, waving a hand in front of me. I composed myself, "I'm Y/N" I replied. Joshua smiled and raised his hand towards the barista, "First, a coffee for the pretty lady and than a new shirt" he stated as we ordered the drink. Conversation flowed easily, he spoke softly and nodded at whatever I said. I hadn't had a man listen to me this intently in a long time.
We got out of the cafe and when I looked around, I realised I was in Monaco. "So, what do you do?" Joshua asked. Before I could reply, a card appeared in my hand. "A boutique" I read it out and flipped it. "I run a boutique" and handed the card over to him. "Maybe I'll drop by" Joshua winked, sending a shiver down my spine. I nodded and quickly took the ring off. I, finally, woke up in my house. I put the head set away and googled Joshua Pearce. That's when I realised he was the fictional racer from the F1 movie, no wonder I thought he looked familiar. I'd seen his face the whole of last year. I went to bed, exhausted from the day's events.
The next few days, I worked with both Lando and the team to work on our timing and strategising for Suzuka. During this time, I also found myself spending time with Joshua after I went home. "Do you....analyse all the races, I mean like the racers?" I asked Joshua as I sat beside him while he watched a race. "kind of" Joshua said, turning to me with a smile. "You've been asking a lot about races lately" he stated. "Nothing, just wanted to get to know you better." I tried to explain. "than go on a date with me, that's a good way" he smirked. I thought for a moment and agreed, what's the worst that could happen.
He took me on many luxurious dates; from expensive restaurants to fancy shops to yacht dates. In the movie, was his character this rich? Who was he modelled after? "Can't I come to one of your races?" I asked Joshua one day as we lounged on his yacht. "Sure" he agreed and the next time I met him I was at a formula one track. "Suzuka" I exclaimed as I looked around, I couldn't contain my happiness. The paddock was bustling with excitement for the Japanese grand prix. I looked around and found Joshua, who introduced me to the rest of the team. I went through the machinery and looked at the data that was playing. I wasn't sure if this was old data that they had entered or just an AI generated data, but I sat down and went through everything. "What're you doing?" Joshua asked, arm on my lower back. "Just watching you race" I said without looking up from my iPad. He pressed a kiss on my cheek and went away. I sat with the iPad running various simulations that I wasn't sure were possible.
During the race, I snatched the head set from Joshua's head engineer and guided him through the race. He'd started the race at P12 and finished it at P2. It was like a confidence boost watching him, it finally gave me the courage I needed to take on the roll of Lando's race engineer. After the race, Joshua ran up to me, with a huge smile on his face. "You were a natural" he said as he picked me up and spun me around. "No need to thank me, it was all you" I beamed, clearly proud of myself. "might have to replace my race engineer now" he stated as he hugged me. I patted his back, "no no, I love my job" I laughed. We pulled away and I pulled the ring off my finger.
The next day, I sat with Lando in the simulation, running some of the strategies I'd watched with Joshua and even made him run the one which got Joshua to finish ten places ahead. Watching Lando execute it almost to a tee, gave me faith for the race and my abilities. The rest of the days leading up to the race were filled with running simulations and practicing with Lando. Giving me little or no time to get on the game.
It was finally the race weekend. Lando performed consistently during the entire weekend leading up to the race; qualifying front row. "Good luck Lando. I know you'll do it" I cheered him on with a thumbs up as he got ready to get into the car. From across the garage, my eyes met Oscar's, who was also getting ready. He was starting behind Lando, a cause for concern but I had faith in me. The race finished as it started, without much change in the top 10 from where they'd started. Lando had maintained his title lead and you could hear cheering and hooting in the garage. "Congratulations" they all cheered. I just flipped my hair, "It's Lando, we knew he could do it" I tried to remain nonchalant.
There were celebrations after the race and I watched Oscar, who didn't seem to have much going on with him whenever I saw his face. Maybe, a part of me felt vindicated that Oscar didn't take the lead. It mostly stroked my ego. So, I went back into the simulation to feel even better. "I had such a good weekend. We need to celebrate" I told Joshua. "Sure" he replied and took me off on a trip to Sicily. As we sat on the coast of Sicily, enjoying local delicacies; "So Y/N, I know we've been seeing each other for a while, but I wanted to ask you if you'd like to be my girlfriend?" Joshua asked. I put my finger on my chin and acted like I was thinking about it, "You haven't convinced me enough" I chid. Joshua pulled out a velvet box out of his pocket and handed it to me. "For me?" I asked and he nodded; inside was a beautiful necklace with the prettiest pendant. I took it out and held it out for Joshua to put on me. He followed suit and softly put it around my neck, with a kiss on my shoulder. "what about now?" he mumbled against my skin. I nodded and he turned me around to face him; he leaned in as if to kiss me so I closed my eyes. After a couple moments and still nothing, I opened my eyes to see Joshua was stuck, like a statue. Everything around had also stopped and was stuck in time. That's when I saw it, another bubble, 'You've completed 50 hours of your date with Joshua Pearce. Would you like to continue to the next?" it read. I groaned before I pulled the ring off.
I lamented on all the things I could've done with Joshua but in the end, wrote my review. I contacted the representative to meet me who agreed to swing by the office. It hadn't been long since the race and we had to leave for the next. The representative sat there reading my review, "This is very detailed" he stated. "I'm very detail oriented" I replied. He closed the file and looked at me, "Is this the only one you tried?" he asked. "There are more?" I countered. "Yes, 899 more" he replied. "What?" I almost shouted. "It's fascinating that you got a formula one driver as your first date but I assure you, we've got enough variety to keep you engaged." he explained. "I think I'm good" I tried to reason. "It's only been two weeks since you got it, it's a month long trial. You should give it a go. No harm" he shrugged. I wasn't one to reject free things, "I'll see you around" I nodded towards him as I left.

Summary- Tired of the chaos of real relationships, race engineer Y/N escapes into a virtual dating program where every partner is designed to be her ideal match. But the deeper she immerses herself in the simulation, the harder it becomes to separate fantasy from her real life.
Love, in the wrong order (Max Verstappen x Reader)
Summary- What happens when you end up running away from the man that is trying to murder you to only end up running into the man you hurt.
Can you stop the murder? Can you save yourself?
Today was just another weekend, a weekend of rest and relaxation for Y/N and her bestie, Ruby. They had a dinner date with Y/N's cousin, Andrea, who had met Ruby at a party. Ruby drove to Y/N's place around 6 and called her, she picked up at the first ring; "Baby girl, waiting for you" Ruby spoke into the phone. Y/N laughed, "coming, darling" and cut the call, quickly grabbing her stuff before closing the door. She almost tripped over the stairs as she tried to put her heels on. Ruby laughed as she saw Y/N run to her; "Classically late as always" she commented and Y/N brushed her off, saying, "by 30 seconds" as she buckled herself in and they drove to the restaurant.
"So, tell me again why your cousin want's to meet up" Ruby paused, "with me?" she spoke. Y/N shrugged, "as if. Maybe she likes you" Y/N pondered. "I am dating someone, if you forgot" Ruby pointed out. "I know, I know. I just think since she's applying for jobs and you're in the same field as her's, she probably had questions and even asked me to tag along, in case it got awkward" Y/N rambled. Ruby nodded along with an understanding. They played the latest episode of Y/N's favourite true crime podcast; the newest episode was an update on the recent killings they suspected was the work of a serial killer.
They pulled up to the restaurant and headed in where Andrea was waiting for them at a table. The three greeted each other and sat down, they ate and talked for a long time. At the end of the night, Andrea had a reference to the place she wanted to apply to and Ruby was feeling generous and offered to drop Andrea back home. As the three climbed into the car, everything blacked out.
The three of them woke up in a basement; the only source of light a light bulb on the ceiling like in the movies. The three of them were tied up to a different pillar; arms, legs and mouth. A flash of terror flashed through their eyes as they looked at each other thinking about what they could do to escape. After looking around for a while Y/N spotted a mirror a few feet away. With her tied up legs, she carefully tried to maneouver it closer. There was a chance the loud noise would alert their kidnapper. They looked at each other, contemplating whether to continue trying to break the mirror to cut the rope or that was a big risk, they'd be willing to take. Eventually, Andrea spotted a sharp rock and was able to bring it closer to her and used it to cut up her ropes and helped the others. They quickly ran out; the car stood outside and with a stroke of luck, it was unlocked and the keys inside. They checked inside and quickly drove to Andrea's house.
The three girls huddled together, with a cup of warm tea that Y/N's aunt handed to the girls. They sat there in silence and drank it before Y/N broke the silence; "I don't wanna be ominous but" she paused and under a hushed whisper; "that was the building they are going to demolish tomorrow" The other two looked confused, what was the co-relation between that building and them. "No, like" Y/N sighed, "You know how that serial killer is on the loose and he hasn't killed anyone in what a couple months, he's picked up speed with the recent killings, shorter cool down time" she elaborated. Ruby encouraged her to go on, "What if" Y/N hesitated, "What if we were his next victims? That place checks out. It is exactly his ammo. Old building about to be demolished" she explained. The switches in their mind seemed to flip and the two of them nodded along. "Could be" Andrea spoke, taking a sip of her tea. "We were lucky" Ruby stated and the three hummed along and drank their tea. Andrea's mother, who was listening along spoke up, "You should report it" she grabbed her phone. "We will. We need time to collect our thoughts" Y/N looked at the others for their opinion and they nodded. Andrea took a piece of paper and wrote down everything she saw, followed by Y/N and Ruby. Y/N took pictures of the notes and messaged them to each other. "We'll go to the police station, next thing tomorrow morning" Ruby stated.
Y/N's aunt insisted the two of them stay back but Y/N was able to convince her that they'll leave and come back the next day. The two of them headed to the car and drove back to Y/N's place. 2 blocks before they reached her place, Ruby's car broke down and wouldn't start. They did everything but nothing worked and finally decided to leave the car there and walk back home. They locked the car and began walking.
The two of them were very quite through out the walk when Y/N started to feel dizzy, her vision blurred and she decided to slowdown for a moment to steady herself before opening her eyes. What stood in front of her was a scene she didn't recognise, she rubbed her eyes aggressively and looked at Ruby to confirm that she was seeing what she was seeing. The two looked at each other shocked.
Y/N had been living in the flat she was living in since first year of university. It was 10 minutes away, by car, from her uni. And she hadn't moved out, gotten too used to the place. What she saw was the scene she saw when she had first moved with the streets barely having as many buildings around it. Y/N was very confused with what was going on. As time had passed and Y/N got done with uni; new buildings, shops and even houses had cropped up over time. And now as an employee, her neighbourhood was extremely lively. So, to see this sparsely occupied land, Y/N looked at Ruby, "The fuck happened?" she asked. Ruby was equally shocked, "Are we still in that basement? What if our life is flashing before our eyes?" she asked, eyes rapidly moving and looking around. "Let's be positive" Y/N tried to reassure her. She quickly grabbed her phone which wouldn't turn on, no matter what she did. She grabbed Ruby's phone which was also not turning on. They ran back to Ruby's car which wasn't where they left it.
Fear was starting to creep in when they spotted someone. They went up to him and the next thing they said must've made them look like mad women; after a very awkward conversation from that man's perspective, they deciphered that they had travelled back to a couple months after their uni had started. The sun was starting to rise and they took it as a sign to head to Y/N's place. Thankfully, the keys to the house hadn't changed since she first moved and was able to access the place. Everything felt newer. They made sure to lock the door and decompress. They thought about what the past them would think if they saw us here. "Than, shouldn't past you be home? It's 5 am. You weren't as exciting as I hoped" Ruby chuckled. "I must've had a long night" Y/N enunciated the words. Ruby just laughed it off and got showered and changed.
They were able to find some phones and get things going. They spoke with Y/N's cousin who was confused about what they were talking about. Finally, they decided to sit down and collect their thoughts.
They had just time travelled, back in time, to a couple months before the first killing happened. They didn't know how this happened and how they were supposed to go home. Before they travelled back in time, they were walking back to Y/N's house. The two of them felt like the world was spinning before they saw where they were. They had spent the night with Andrea at a restaurant and when they had gotten in Ruby's car, someone had somehow gotten them unconscious. First question- how did someone get in the car and what did they use to knock them out? After that they woke up in a dingy basement and were lucky enough to escape, not before they grabbed some papers and what looked like identity cards on the table; Y/N splayed the papers and cards on the table. They even had the paper's with the recounts of the incident by the three of them laid out as well.
"How do we know it's the same 'killer'?" Ruby asked. Y/N thought about it, "dingy old basement of a building about to be demolished, too much flammable liquid around. The building is set on fire after the murders, hence it takes months for identifications because they have to use bones or teeth." Ruby's eyes widened, "Thank god you're obsessed with that killer" she stated. "I'm not" Y/N interjected. "Okay, whatever. Tell me when was his first killing and who was the victim?" Ruby asked. Y/N looked at the calendar, "Almost 3 months from now, the first killing was in" she paused and swallowed before continuing, "a formula one paddock, some employee of a team died and a driver was the only sole witness or victim" she finished. "Does he still race? Which team was it? Come on think about it" Ruby insisted. Y/N would look anywhere but at Ruby and tried to brush her off. And as if everything clicked in place, "Don't tell me, it's him" Ruby prodded. Y/N got up abruptly, "I don't know who you're talking about it" she replied after a beat. "Oh my God!! It is him" Ruby exclaimed. "Is that why you've been obsessed with this case?" she asked. "No, I like true crime and..and" Ruby cut her off. "I think this is a win. We go to him and ask him what's up and stop this from ever happening and that way you and me and your cousin are saved" "Yeah but it's weird" Y/N bit her lip, awkward about asking her ex for help. Ruby sighed, "Y/N, technically, the two of you haven't met yet, if my calculation is right" Y/N looked at the calendar and realised that they were a year before the meeting.
Y/N looked disgruntled, not wanting to engage with Max. "You two didn't end on a bad note right?" Ruby enquired. "From what I remembered, life happened." she explained. "Yeah" Y/N lamented. "Life happened" she muttered. 'But I did nothing to stop it from happening' she thought.
Flashback
Y/N was sat on her table working on a paper when Max asked her about joining him for the FIA gala. Max had finished P3 in the championship and he wanted to go there with his girlfriend. "You know it's my big finals weeks. No can do baby" Y/N replied without even looking up. Max had felt it, he just didn't want to say it out loud, in case it became real. He felt like an after thought to Y/N. This wasn't the first time she couldn't make. It was just the last time he asked. "Don't bother at all" Max replied. "Baby, I didn't mean it like that" Y/N tried to back track. "Than what does it mean?" Max asked, getting angry. "I just have stuff. I'll make it next time, when you win" she tried to reason. Max shook his head, "This was my best season by far and I just wanted to share it with you" he spat. "Don't act like you won't do better next year" Y/N spat back. "I know I'll do better next year, I'll just have someone willing to celebrate my wins with me, next time" Max stated. "What does that mean? Max, what the fuck do you mean?" Y/N asked, her voice raising an octave. "I mean, we're done. Good luck finding someone who's willing to wait for you" Max retorted before leaving.
That was the last time Y/N saw Max. She only saw him on the TV. She celebrated all of his wins after that. She let everyone and herself believe that they naturally drifted apart.
"That's settled. Let's find Max" Ruby stated with her hand raised, determined. "Wouldn't that be weird?" Y/N asked. "Hey! You don't have to date him, we just look around and find the killer. okay?" Ruby asked softly. Y/N nodded.
Flashback
Y/N met Max on a trip to Netherlands before her new semester started. Y/N had gotten lost on the way back to her hotel assuming it was only 10 minutes away by walk, she had spent the last one hour walking around in circles. She had started to get anxious, the maps app was useless and her phone was about to die on her. She didn't speak the language, she didn't know who to ask for help. It was as if her prayers were all answered in one when Max come to help her; all on his own. "Hello, do you need help?" Max asked. Y/N's face relaxed quickly when she heard someone speak a language she understood. "Yes, please. I think I'm lost" Y/N replied. "Where do you want to go?" Max asked. Y/N replied with her hotel name, Max thought about for a moment, "That's almost an hour away" Max stated. Y/N sighed, "I have no clue where I went wrong, I was supposed to be only 10 minutes away" Max reassured her and said that he would take her there. They walked back to the hotel, an hour away, time seemed to flow easily, she didn't even realise they were back by then. "Never got your name, I'm Max by the way" Max pointed out. "Y/N" she replied. Max repeated the name a few times under his breath, "I don't think I'll ever forget a name as beautiful as the person it belongs to"
Y/N wasn't planning a repeat of the original timeline to meet Max. She decided to find out how to get into RedBull. With their majors, after a lot of back and forth and a few recommendations from friends of friends and some seniors they didn't even know existed until this whole ordeal; they got into RedBull's internship programme. At the end of the month, they were going to Milton Keynes. At first, they were fascinated with everything and the others there took it as interest and loaded them with work, Y/N wasn't even sure she was qualified to handle. It was almost 3 weeks, after a greuling day when the two collapsed in bed; "We've forgotten our main goal" Y/N pointed out. "We would remember it if we weren't dying from the amount of work we have on our hands" Ruby reminded. "You had to be so diligent" she taunted. Y/N groaned, "That's not" she began but was cut off, "Nope, we have to start looking into the first victim" Ruby said. "I've befriended her, she's very sweet and trusting. No wonder she got killed" Ruby voiced her thoughts, "She's too trusting" "I'll look into the killer and see if it's someone we work with" Y/N added. "I don't think it's someone on the team, maybe it's someone on the venue where she gets killed" Ruby explained. The two girls agreed, they had a month left to prevent it from happening and catching the culprit.
The day Y/N began looking into the case was also the day Max waltz into her life. She was carrying some copies she had made for the meeting when she dropped a file and bent down to pick it up with a stack of papers in her hands, Max was passing-by and noticed. He knelt down and picked up the paper and handed it to her. "Thank You" she nodded and tried to walk away, feeling awkward. Max took this as an invite, "I heard we had new interns who were almost as good as the engineers on track" Max stated, shooting a shot. Y/N turned towards him, perplexed, "Who's saying that?" she asked. Max shrugged, "Here say" Y/N walked to the meeting room with Max on her tail. He couldn't understand what pulled him to her. He couldn't look away or let her walk away. "Need help" he offered. "No, thank you" she politely decline while placing the files on the table. "I'm Max and you are?" Max tried to make small talk. Y/N closed her eyes, took a deep breath and replied, "Y/N." Max repeated the name thrice, seeing how it rolled off his tongue. "Still the same" Y/N muttered, tears in her eyes. "What?" Max reacted, she quickly turned away and wiped the tears that were forming. "I'll see you later" Max bid her good bye, not before muttering, "Don't think I can forget someone as beautiful as her" Y/N couldn't hold back her tears, he was the same. A part of her hoped he wouldn't be, so she wouldn't have to live with the guilt but here she was.
After that meeting, Max ran into Y/N more times than she would like to give him credit for. He'd show up with a RedBull on long tiring days or a kind smile and sarcastic quips when she was annoyed with the others. She tried not to let herself get close, she tried to ignore him. But he was like a cat, the more you ignored him the more he got fascinated. He had women throwing themselves at him; at first he just wanted to know what it felt like to pursue some one. But as days turned to weeks, he couldn't help but feel drawn like this was where he was supposed to be.
"In the original timeline, Max pursued you?" Ruby asked. "No, I did" Y/N stated. "Really? With the way he keep hovering around you, I thought it was the other way round" Ruby said which Y/N brushed off. "The first killing happens in 10 days, we don't have much time to worry about anything else" Y/N stated. Ruby nodded, "We need to find a way to keep her safe and have Max witness it to than report it to the police" Ruby added. "Yes and with our hard work at our unpaid labour, we should be able to make it to this race" Y/N said. "That I know we can" Ruby smiled, "Jeanine, the first victim. Loves me" Ruby said. "You've been buttering her up for weeks" Y/N laughed. "Have not" Ruby retorted. "Whatever helps you sleep at night" Y/N smirked which was met with a playful smack on her shoulder.
They were able to make it to the race, as a learning experience. It was also the time Y/N started having weird dreams. Dreams where she kept finding herself back at that basement, unable to leave and dying in a gruesome manner. But every dream, she would wake up with a something new she saw at in that basement. At first, she thought it was probably her mind trying to fill in the blanks until she saw someone who looked like the killer. She wasn't sure, she thought she was daydreaming and pinning the blame on an innocent man. It was only during media day, a day after setting up for the weekend; when she noticed a man lurking. She wasn't sure if he was lurking for Jeanine or someone else, but he looked out of place, not exactly but from the information she had about the killer. She remembered hearing the police say that the killer had a limp in his left leg from the foot print they were able to get a few years before their kidnapping. After more examining, they came to the conclusion that the killer was an amputee, but there was no hint of him being an amputee in the initial killings; hence why they thought there were either 2 people involved or someone was a copy cat or worst case scenario, the killer lost his left leg in an accident between the cool down period.
When they were setting up for the weekend, they were introduced to one of the on site co-ordinators, Silas Verne. The name rang a bell, Y/N couldn't put a finger on it. She found herself thinking about why the name sounded so familiar. She ushered Ruby away into a secluded area, "I think I know who might be the suspect" she stated. "Really?" Ruby looked at her confused. "I think" Y/N's voice dropping, "It's Silas" she finished. "Him" Ruby almost shouted, "He's so nice. He even helped us as soon as we arrived." Ruby reasoned. "I'm not sure okay! But I had taken some fake ids in that basement when we were escaping and a name stuck, since it was one I hadn't heard before. He has that name. I'm not sure if it's his official name or it's a fake id, I just think we should be careful" she rambled. "Who has a fake id? What should you be careful of?" Max voiced, he's been looking for Y/N and found them huddled together. They jumped at Max's question, Y/N placing a hand on her chest to calm her rapidly beating heart. "Don't scare us like that" she reprimanded. Max just smiled, "What are you talking about?" he asked. "Noth-" she stopped herself before finishing. Max had to be in on it, he was their sole witness. Y/N smiled bright, "The fake id was about some friend of ours and we shouldn't do something like that. Yeah, that's what I was explaining to Ruby here" Y/N looked at her with eyes saying to agree with her or else, Ruby nodded eagerly, reassuring Max. Max remained doubtful, "I'm not sure" he stated, "But you could convince me" Max elaborated. Y/N urged him to continue, "By having coffee with me" Max suggested. Ruby nudged Y/N to which she sighed and agreed. "Let's go" Max said jumping on the opportunity. "Now?" Y/N asked. Max nodded and almost pulled her along before she changed her mind; Ruby whispered in her ear to get Max on their side.
Y/N was walking by Max's side. "I heard the catering is amazing, we can get coffee here" Y/N suggested, not sure what was Max's plan. Max laughed, "My plan exactly, you're hard to convince, you know" Max pointed out. Y/N couldn't deny that, she had actively tried to avoid Max, no matter what happened. There was a part of her guilt; for everything that had happened in the past, the future, whatever she could call it. She had found herself awake most nights wondering what would happen if she got herself involved with Max; she thought about all the what ifs and it kept her awake more nights than she would like to admit. This wasn't the first time; she had spent years after their breaking wondering about the what ifs and now was no different; it was just that Max was closer and it felt more realistic. "Are you usually this quiet?" Max asked, taking her out of her thoughts. Y/N shook her head, laughing, "Can't believe you said that" she mumbled.
Flashback
Y/N stepped into the flat, Max's luggage at the entrance signifying his return. She ran looking for you and jumped on his back as he was grabbing water. "You're back" she screamed. "I hate classes. They are so long and I barely get to call you or text you or FaceTime you. And than stupid time zones" she rambled, Max carried her on his back to the couch before putting her down and sitting down next to her. For the next hour, she talked his ear off for the next hour.
They reached the mini coffee station on their hospitality, Max gestured her to order her coffee, "One cortado, please" she ordered. "Figures" Max nodded, more to himself. "One cappuccino" Max ordered; the two stood together while waiting for their drinks. "Why are you here this early?" Y/N asked, her attention on Max, like she was trying to gauge him. Max just shrugged, "I had some other commitments." Y/N squinted at him, "sure" her voice skeptical. "It's not like I have all the time in the world to follow some random intern around" Max spoke, trying to sound nonchalant. "If the shoe fits" Y/N retorted. Max wanted to fight her, he wanted to tell her he had better things to do than follow someone random girl who took his breath away the first time he saw her in their office around, but he knew how creepy that sounded even in his head. At that moment, their coffee was ready and he quickly handed hers and grabbed his. They began walking back, "Thanks for the coffee" Y/N spoke as she took a sip of her drink. Max just shrugged, "It's just coffee" 'But it's not, it's you' Y/N thought, as she caught herself smiling fondly at Max.
The two girls had made a smart plan, they knew where Jeanine would be, where she could be taken from and where she would be taken to. They just had to get Jeanine to leave just in time to get a picture of the killer but setting up cameras in these two locations. One of them would lure Max over and call the police at the same time, hence saving everyone; the plan sounded fool proof, like there were no plot holes.
The next few days, Y/N and Max ran into each other quite a lot. Y/N had to make him trust her enough to come. They were wrapping up after media day to head back to the hotel when she saw Max and waved at him. "Hi Max" she shouted from across the hospitality. Max waved back as she jogged over to him. "Heading back late" she mentioned. "Yeah, was going over some strategies" he replied. "Heading back?" he inquired. "Yup" she chimed. "I can drop you off" Max offered. "I think I'm staying on the opposite end of where you're headed" she laughed. "I don't mind" Max shrugged. Y/N took him up on the offer. They spent the whole time he drove her, talking about anything and everything.
At the end of the day after free practices, Y/N popped in looking for Max until she saw him. "Great practice. Expecting a win with those stats" she commented. Max just smiled, "if you think so." The two walked to Max's car; like a silent offer they had from the day before. As she got out, "Remember to keep your swimwear for tomorrow" Max called out. Y/N's eyes widened as she stared at him; "For the pool, you said your hotel doesn't have a pool" Max clarified, his cheeks burning. Y/N let a breath, she didn't know she was holding, out and nodded as she headed back to her room.
The next day, Max qualified P5, he was not bothered with his qualification as he was about getting to spend time with Y/N. He found Y/N walking out of the hospitality to head back for the night. She saw him and jogged towards him, "Brought my swimwear" she stated. Max led her to his car while they drove to his hotel. "I haven't swum in so long. Have you tried the pool?" she asked. Max shook his head, "I'll try it now." he answered. He led Y/N to the pool while he headed back to his room to grab his swimwear. When he returned, Y/N was already in the pool floating, she swam up to Max, "It's perfect, so warm and relaxing" she commented. Max changed and jumped into the pool. What started off as relaxing laps around the pool turned into a full blown swimming competition. At the end, Y/N clawed her way out of the water, exhausted; "Not fair, you're an athlete" she panted as she lay on the tiled floor. Max climbed out of the pool and sat beside her, "You're the one who challenged me" Max stated matter-of-factly. "Yes, I did, but you could've cut me some slack" Y/N chimed in. "I don't cut people slack" Max enunciated each word slowly. "You're no fun" Y/N huffed as she got up to grab a towel. "You don't like losing, do you?" Max asked. "Yeah, and you don't either" she admitted with a pout. Max laughed loud, his voice echoing, "You're starting to learn" he spoke in between laughs. "Just wait till I beat you mister." she asserted. "I'll be waiting" he smiled, softly, blue eyes shining in the florescent light as he watched her dry off. They spent the next hour arguing about who's the fastest after which Max dropped her back to her hotel.
It was race day, the day the killing was supposed to happen. Ruby and Y/N were on edge. They hovered around Jeanine since they reached the hospitality. They had gone over their plan a couple times before they fell asleep. Y/N had Max's number so she would call him just before the event happens. The race was uneventful, Max DNFed. Y/N didn't remember the stats and she couldn't care about that right now. Max was okay and hadn't let the race dampen his spirit. He had enjoyed all the time he spent with Y/N in the past few days and planned to ask her out tonight. Just as the drivers were going to the media pen for their post race interviews, Jeanine walked up to Ruby, "Can you take over my work for the evening? I've finished up with everything, you just need to submit it" she asked, hopefully. Ruby nodded, "Are you feeling....fine?" she asked. "No, horrible cramps, I think I'm gonna throw up" she stated. "Do you want me to get you something?" Ruby offered. "No, I'll go back to the hotel, early" Jeanine stated, handing her files and the things yet to be done, to Ruby and headed back to the hotel.
"Y/N" Ruby called for Y/N. She came running, "Everything okay?" she asked. "Jeanine left" Ruby stated. "What? Where? Is she okay? Did someone take her?" Y/N spoke rapidly. "No, she went back to the hotel. I'll check with her until she's safe but what now?" Y/N thought about it, did the event get nullified since Jeanine left. This was their first time, time-travelling, what were the rules. Did they change the timeline with the small events that had happened, like a butterfly effect? All these questions and no answers. They did what they had to do and tried to finish up with the team. Silas or the killer as they liked to call was no where to be seen. They thought they had changed the timeline and would probably need to re-group or never return to their timeline.
As night fell, Y/N got stuck doing some work before they began wrapping up for the weekend. People had started to file out of the hospitality and the car was already dismantled and being sent back as she typed away. The light in the room flickered as she clicked send to the last of the email and grabbed her stuff to leave. She put her earphone on and started listening to music when she felt something or rather someone behind her. Before she knew it, her head felt fuzzy and body limp.
She didn't know how long it had been when she woke up in a warehouse to a man in front of her. He was busy sharpening his knife. She tried to get herself free and the only thought in her mind; the timeline never changed, the victim did. The killer turned around, "You're so perfect" he stated. "You'd make the best start to something new" as he traced the sharp edge of the knife along the right side of her face. "Why are you doing this?" she asked trying to keep him busy as she tried to free herself. "Why else? You're pretty and I like destroying pretty things." he smirked. "Don't people want to preserve pretty things" she tried to reason. "Not me" he spoke as he walked behind her, seeing as she almost freed herself, grabbed her hand and pulled it towards him, "I was gonna do this after you died so that it wouldn't be painful but you seem more eager I am" he said. Y/N remembered what he meant by that, he removed all the tips of his victims fingers so they wouldn't be recognised and even got rid of their teeth to prolong the identification. But he wasn't able to do that the first time around and ran away mid way through since Max found him. Y/N felt her heart race, adrenaline pumping through her blood. 'It's now or never' she thought and took all the strength she had to push him away, grab his knife and point it at him. He laughed as he took the rope he had prepared and walked towards her. He killed the victim by strangling them, so that's what he was attempting. She ran backwards, eyes on him at all cost. She located the exit and began sprinting. He was able to catch up to her and disarm her. She used her legs to push him off and continued running. Before she could unlock the door, she heard a voice passing by. She screamed loudly making the person come back and try to open the door. "The key is with me" the killer bellowed. He looked maniacal as he ran to her.
Outside, Max had heard the scream and was able to get the person with the master key to open who was also helping him search since he lock up for the night. The door swung open, Y/N falling into the personnel's arms. Max looked at the scene in front of him as the killer charged at them, injuring both the personnel who opened the door and Y/N. Max got into a fight with the killer, able to disarm him while Y/N called the police, informing them about the situation and where they were. Y/N got up and used the metal pipe lying in the warehouse to hurt the killer and make him move off Max as he screamed in pain. She might have gone a little over board trying to stop the man from attacking again as blood pooled around his injured leg.
As if in record time, the police got there. They arrested the killer while Y/N recounted the event in detail to Max, going as far as making Max record it on his phone. She wasn't sure how long she'd be here for and if she would be able to give her testimony. "Calm down. You're bleeding. We'll talk about this later" Max tried to reassure her. "No, no. I have to." she shook her head as she continued recording the events, her head started to feel heavy and she started to see two Maxs. As she finished recording, the ambulance came in. "Make sure the police hears this." she mumbled as she put the phone in his hand. Max's hands were shaking as he tried to stop the blood before she closed her eyes.
When she opened her eyes, she could hear the soft purring of a cat trying to wake her up. "They're hungry" as voice spoke, lips pressed against her neck. She turned around abruptly to look at the man with his arms around her. "Max?" she poked his cheek. Max opened his eyes, still sleepy. "You're okay?" she asked. "Did you have a bad dream?" Max asked softly. "Maybe" she mumbled before pecking his cheek and getting up to feed the cats. 'When did I adopt cats?' she thought before looking around, 'this wasn't my house, was it Max's' she thought. Quickly raising her shirt up, she found the scar from the knife which she had acquired during the tussle with the killer.
She checked her phone and checked the news. The killer was caught and jailed for his crimes and since he didn't show any intent to improve, parole didn't seem easy. She called Ruby immediately, "We did it" she stated. "Yes we did" Ruby cheered. "Also, we changed too many things" Ruby added. "Like what?" Y/N asked. "You're still with Max and he's your first and only serious relationship" Ruby stated. "That I've gathered." "You're pregnant" Ruby snickered. "No, I'm not" Y/N tried to reason. "Just saw our chats and you clearly texted me that with a picture. Y/N checked their chats and there it was. She'll probably have to confirm some things because she wasn't sure how much she had changed trying to catch the killer.
Hope you enjoyed this. It's my longest work yet and first time writing something like this. Feedback is appreciated.

Summary- Lando and Y/N are getting along so well. Max is happy. Lando is happy. Y/N's happy. Everything's going exactly as planned.
The next few races, Max still flew Y/N out. It was mostly out of the fear that his plan wouldn't work and Max hates losing. He would just send her flight tickets and have their mother drive her. At this point, she was almost prancing to the airport. She would greet her brother, have a bag full of her best outfits and be dropped off at McLaren as if Max had a delivery to make.
Over time, she had developed a bit of a banter with Lando. "Hey" Max bellowed trying to get Lando's attention as they entered the paddock for the weekend. Lando turned around and waved at them, giving Y/N a wink. He jogged back to give the pair a hug, "So, I get my delivery early this week" he winked at Y/N. She felt her cheeks heat up, "What am I? An object" she stammered, mentally face palming herself for this lousy excuse of a comeback. Lando just laughed, draped his arm around her shoulders, "I'll be taking her off your hands, Mr Verstappen" he tipped his invisible hat down and led them to McLaren. "You need McLaren merch, can't have you enter with a RedBull hat", taking it off and put his hat on her head, she wasn't sure what he did with that hat.
Everyone had gotten used to Y/N at McLaren. They would let her follow Lando around like a puppy. Her eyes would sparkle as Lando spoke, Will stated. But neither would accept it. Oscar's girlfriend was around and the two of them hit it off, discussing school and plans for the future. "So, you and Lando seeing each other?" Lily whispered. "What? NO?" Y/N almost screamed, before quieting down. "Sorry" she said as she scratched her neck, embarrassed. Lily just shook her head, "It's nothing, just what everyone is saying since Max personally drops you off" she stated. Y/N just nodded along, there was some reality to it, she couldn't deny it. But they weren't dating not yet, anyways.
It was like second nature for Lando to come to her and discuss the race, regardless of which session it was. She was always included along with the other McLaren staff, much to everyone's dismay; since she was still the enemy's sister. Y/N would just stand there and listen to Lando yap and make mental notes on points he would make and if they weren't answered by the end of the session, reminding everyone to look into it. Lando loved it; it helped him organise his thoughts. "You're my personal race diary at this point" Lando stated after his sprint qualifying. She smiled, "glad to be of service Mr Norris" she giggled. Lando laughed, "That's my dad." "No, he's Adam" she chuckled. "You're on first name bases" he asked shocked. "Not just your dad but your mum too. They love me and are going to disown you for me" she teased. Lando laughed too, "Won't deny it. My extended family is hearing about you." "Really?" her eyes bulged out. "At least that's what my sister said" he shrugged and they headed back to the hotel.
Lando finished on the podium that sprint race and much to Max's delight, Lando went to Y/N after the race. It was kind of crazy for Max to see, his little matchmaking ways were working. Y/N hugged Lando and patted his back, "Congratulations Lando" she was genuinely happy for him and proud of him. Lando buried his head in her neck, kind of forgetting what was happening around them. He took in her scent trying to memorise it; the vanilla and than the coffee and finally the floral notes hitting him. It felt just right; like where he was supposed to be.
After this, Max no longer had to buy her ticket's to races. She was buying her own tickets or would fly with Lando sometimes. All her yearly leaves were getting used up. She was sat counting how many she had left when, "What's got you so deep in thought?" Lando asked. "Nothing" she shook her head, "just counting how many day offs I have left" she lamented. "How many are there?" Lando asked. "About 4" I'm going to have to prioritise when I take them" she stated. Lando's face fell, he had begun enjoying her company a long time ago and couldn't imagine not having her around at race weekends. There weren't many left but he couldn't imagine them without her. "Call in sick" he stated. She laughed, "sure."
That weekend, Lando planned a quick date, they had been hanging out all these races but he hadn't taken her anywhere on a date yet. He spent the next few days, going through date spots and finally settled on a restaurant. Their first date was about to be as cliche as it could get. He planned to get her flowers, take her for dinner, than dessert and finally if everything goes right, end the night with a kiss. What could go wrong?
This week's qualifying left much to be desired on Lando's side and the only thing that kept him going was the thought that he would be going on a date. As the two of them hung out after qualifying in his driver's room, Lando sat on the sofa, elbows on his knee, in deep thought as he wondered how he'd ask her out. Y/N looked at him and thought he was worried about the race and decided to cheer him up. She stood in front of him, "It wasn't that bad and you could still have a great race" she patted his shoulder; Lando looked up confused before he realised what she said. He opened his mouth to say something when she took his hand in hers, "Come on, let's get you something to eat. That always cheers me up." she stated, trying to pull him up. But, physics wasn't on their side, she used too much force not realising that Lando would gladly go anywhere she would take him; making the pair lose balance which led to Lando falling back with her on top of him.
Y/N was literally on top of Lando, her body laying on his, hands on his chest, Lando's hands on her waist. Their face so close to each other, their breath exchanged with each other, their face got red as their faces got closer. Lando felt his heart was about to beat out of his chest. He was ready to lean in and kiss when without a word, Y/N bolted up. "Sorry....I shouldn't" she stammered, trying to grab her stuff, "I should leave" she said without looking up and ran out of the driver's room. All the while, Lando laid there confused as to what happened while his heart ached a little.
He decided to give her time but when she didn't show up the next day for the race, no reply to his texts or his calls. He couldn't help but run to RedBull to find her. But she was no where around and he ran up to Max, "where's she?" he almost screamed. Max turned around sighing, "She went home." "Why? What?" Lando asked confused. Max rubbed the space between his eyes, "No clue. She won't text back or answer my calls." He looked at Lando, "Did you do something?" Max asked feeling himself get angry. Lando quickly shook his head, "I was planning on asking her out, I didn't do shit" he ran a hand through his hair, "that's the fucking problem" Lando mumbled as he went back.
sorry for forgetting about this. we're back plej!! hope you enjoy
hi love, i don't know if you remember me but we were mutuals once upon a time. i don't know if you know what happened, but i was bullied and harassed from my blog. even though i am gone (was scrolling through my friends when your blog came up as suggested), bullshit and lies have been spread about me. i just want the people i was at least mutuals with to know that none of it is true, even though i am still being slandered
OMG!! I was literally thinking of you the other day😭 this is fate. Hope you’re doing good!
Hi! I just binged your soulmate F1 AUs and I love the idea! It got me thinking about an ADHD reader like me who probably wouldn't notice sharing thoughts with someone bc of all the random stuff up there already. So... what if Lando's soulmate was thoroughly convinced she didn't have a soulmate even though they share thoughts. In my head Lando would be like "girl shut up. But also dont bc I love ur voice 😍"
Anyways, even if you dont make anything on it I thought I'd share, much love! 💛
Omg!!! This is so cute 🥹🥹
I just thought about Lando who also has a lot of thoughts sometimes and mostly strategies and his soulmate suddenly being this strategy wiz bc of him and her thinking welp guess I’m just good at race strategies and watching some of those unfold in real time if she’s a F1 fan or the other way, stating those thoughts and her family thinking she reads drivers well, mostly Lando 😂
The readers rampant thoughts being like the calm in Lando’s storm and him looking forward to those when he feels anxious or worried, bc they calm him down🤭🫣

imagine being so rich you could holiday absolutely anywhere in the world and your choice of destination is the place that’s currently committing genocide and starving babies to death
Summary- Max the matchmaking fairy is working over time at his side gig. Y/N's life isn't easy, because why is her brother forcing her to date his friend and why is she still not over her first crush. Lando's just confused while trying to socialise with Max's sister.
After being cornered by her brother about dating one of his friends,Y/N did what any normal person would do.
Y/N knew she had just pushed her luck too hard and got herself stuck in this precarious predicament. Begrudgingly, Y/N packed her bag for the race week. Max was having her fly in on media day and she would reach mid day. She was ready to meet this mystery fellow and have him be put off by her. She was dropped off at the airport by her mother, who waited until she checked in and walked through security. Y/N sighed as she watched her complete the formalities with a pout as if hoping her. mother would ask her not to go. The flight felt too short. She was aggressively shaking her leg, anxious about what was to come. She walked out to find her brother. "Don't you have a packed schedule today" she asked, squinting her eyes. "I'll go back soon after I drop you off at the hotel" he replied and took her bag from her. They walked in silence until they got in the car. "So, who's the guy?" Y/N asked tentatively. "You'll know soon" he replied and drove them to the hotel. Y/N plopped down on her bed finally, the exhaustion taking over.
The level of anticipation and anxiety had taken her out; she slept through the evening until Max called her to join him for dinner. She showed up in a hoodie and sweats, a smirk on her lips. "Did you sleep the whole day?" Max asked, handing her the menu. "Maybe" she laughed while looking at the food. They ordered and Y/N couldn't help but look around. "Who you looking for?" Max laughed. "No one" she replied quickly. "I'm not introducing him to you like this." Max gestured to her. "What's wrong with this?" she asked. "Everything. Because I know you dress up" Max tsked. "Since when were you a fashionista" Y/N quipped. "Since P" Max retorted. They ate their food in silence and Max gave her specific instructions about how she has to look tomorrow. Y/N wanted to make a snide comment but she knew he would make her change her clothes until he was happy.
The next day, she dressed up; like she did to meet her friends, as Max put it. She wore a pink top and white pants with comfortable shoes and did her make up. Max was happy with the finished look and lead them to his car. They reached the paddock and as they got out of the car, the flashes from the camera started. "Hey Max" a voice called out. Max looked up, smiled and waved. The man walked up to them. Y/N felt her heart speed up, her breathing was getting uneven. It was Lando; her first love. Y/N wasn't sure if she could call him that since it was just a crush and they barely spoke. Y/N froze up, turning away to do anything but look at him. "Who've you brought with you?" Lando asked, noticing her turning away. Max turned towards Y/N and pulled her close, "This is my half sister, Y/N Y/L/N" Max introduced. "Hi" Lando raised his hand to shake. Y/N looked at it for a moment before Max puller her hand forwards, "Hi" Y/N stuttered. "Haven't seen you in a while" Lando pointed. He noticed her before, Y/N's brain was reeling with this new information. "Yeah, she's been busy with school than work. Very dedicated" Max said, pushing the two together. "Let's go shall we" Max suggested. Lando nodded as they walked, Y/N was in between the two of them. Her brain had decided to stop working now but she was glad her brother made her dress up. Regardless who that idiot she was supposed to date was; at least she looked pretty in front of Lando Norris and apparently he had noticed her before.
Max stopped near the McLaren hospitality, "Y/N is sadly a McLaren fan even though her brother is in RedBull" Max stated; Y/N looked at him shocked, where was this coming from? She tried to defend herself but Lando cut her off. "Nice. At least someone has taste" he smiled. "Thanks" was the only word she could muster, not wanting to be rude. "Show her around" Max patted Lando's back and walked away. Y/N wasn't sure if she should thank the lord or start crying because, she couldn't speak. It was as if the connection between her brain and mouth was lost. "Come on" Lando grabbed her wrist and pulled her in to the hospitality. Y/N felt like her wrist was on fire, her cheeks red and mouth parched. And here she thought, she was over Lando; but does anyone ever truly get over their first crush.
Flash back
It was Y/N's first time at a karting race. She had joined her half siblings on the track, once or twice. But this was a whole new ball game. She loved watching Max race; she hated racing him. In all the chaos of the race; a small boy, around her age caught her eye. He was quite fast. It made her excited to watch him race. It was only later that she found out who it was. Y/N ended up supporting Lando Norris through all his races; from the junior series to Formula One. She would always tell herself that she was supporting him because he was talented and not because she had a crush on him. So, why did she feel a pang in her chest when she found out about his girlfriend.
Present Day
"You don't usually come to races do you?" Lando asked. Y/N just shook her head. "This is Oscar, my team mate" he introduced her to him. They shook each other's hand and Y/N even made small talk. Lando felt kind of bad at the fact that she spoke to Oscar and not to him, but he brushed it off, as a one time thing. As the day progressed, Lando noticed Y/N putting a distance between them. He had even offered to let her climb into his car and check it out. All she did was shake her head at him and just before free practise excused herself to the RedBull garage.
"Max Emilian" she shouted as she entered the garage. She pulled her brother to his driver's room even though his engineer's had something to say to him. "Why would you do that?" she asked. "Do what?" he asked innocently. Y/N almost gave herself concussion smacking her forehead. "Leave me with.....at McLaren" she asked. Max smirked, "You know, the guy I was talking about" he drawled. "Don't tell me it's Lando" she made a silent prayer. "It's Lando" Max enunciated. There went Y/N's chance of making the guy hate her, she wasn't even sure he knew her until today morning and suddenly all she wanted was for him to like her, even though she was sure not sure about her crush on him, only one way to find out. "I don't know if I love you or if I hate you Max" she stated. "All you have to do is thank me" he smirked. "No Max" she whined. "I can't.....you can't set me up with Lando" she mumbled. "Why not? What's wrong with Lando?" he rambled. "Nothing's wrong with him" she said, "everything's wrong with me, because apparently I'm a teenager again" she thought. "Than what?" Max questioned. She just shrugged. "IF you think I'll be getting with him, sorry to burst your bubble" she spoke and walked away.
Max left for Free Practise soon and finished it up well. He met up with Lando after the race. "Hey Lando" he greeted. "Hey, mate" he greeted back. "Did you and Y/N talk?" he asked. "I talked, Y/N not much" Lando spoke. Max sighed, "Sorry about that. She's just shy." Max reasoned. "Why?" Lando asked, confused. "She's the girl I was talking about" Max said. "You're setting me up with you sister" Lando almost shouted. "Shut up" Max hissed. "Sorry" Lando replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Even if I was, you're really gonna have to do most of the heavy lifting, since she's super shy" Max stated. "Thank god, she's nothing like you" Lando laughed. "What do you mean?" Max argued. "Nothing" Lando brushed him off. "If you do anything stupid, both of us will bust your balls" Max said patting his back. "And for the record, you really are her favourite driver" Max lamented as he walked away, hoping this would give Lando the motivation to try.
It took Lando a while to decide if he wanted to pursue Y/N or not. He had a lot of mixed feeling. But he could see Max really trying, the only other place Lando had seen Max trying was on the track and he liked to believe that his friend had his and his sister's best interest at heart. Y/N was shy, but never rude, not out of her way anyways. So, he didn't see a problem with them being friends at the very least, if all else failed.
They spent the whole weekend making small talk. And by the race day, Y/N had wished him all the best for the race; which was massive progress from Friday. In Y/N's head, she felt like she was in a fever dream, since Lando was personally going out of his way to talk with her; even if it was because of her brother, she would take it; 13 year old version of her was squealing some where.
Maybe dreams do come true, she thought as she lay in bed that Sunday, before her flight Monday morning with one extra number in her contacts.
