( tws; neglect, parental death )
only son to the youngest of the current ruling lord thorpe's brothers, george has always known he wouldn't amount to much. sure, there wasn't much to amount to -- a meagre estate near whitby, yorkshire was all his father inherited.
his parents were originally a love match, his mother the daughter of a wealthy landowner from near belfast, but the love didn't last very long. by the time george came along they were at best ignoring one another and at worst in active dispute.
the best break george could get from them was the frequent trips home his mother would take -- he would beg her to take him with her every time, promising to be on his best behaviour ( and always failing to fulfil that promise ). as much as he's always liked living along the yorkshire coast, the coastlines of his mother's home have always held a special place in his heart.
a truly terrible student from day dot. to this day cannot sit still and concentrate for the life of him, his tutored days were far worse. if they could catch him and drag him down from whatever tree he'd climbed up, or hill or rugged coast line he'd run up then the real fun began. he was completely and utterly disinterested. just like his parents were in one another and in him.
at twelve, george's mother died, the one person he could find any sort of warmth or solace in ( even if that was a limited amount ) had left him. there would be no more trips to ireland, his second home, nothing to break up the monotony of trying to entertain himself and simply ending up in horrendous trouble.
at a loss for what to do with the boy, his father came up with the bright idea of sending him to his older brother. perhaps it would straighten george out, or perhaps it would just give mr thorpe a break. the visits were generally short -- a month at most, here and there. whenever mr thorpe had had enough of looking at him.
late 1810, bored out of his mind, george finally joined the war effort. it would be something to do -- and keep him busy it did. he escaped entirely unmarred, a stroke of fantastic luck though it saddens him to see he is firmly in the minority with that experience. many of his comrades return changed in one way or another and he is always one to offer them support.
despite having spent chunks of his childhood and indeed his adult life mixing with the thorpes and the ton, this is his first full season. he has been sent to his uncle once more, the poor man tasked with finding some equally poor soul foolish enough to agree to marry george.
george, on the other hand, is having none of that. as per usual, his sole aim for the season is to seek out pleasure and revel in it. if there is trouble to be found, one can almost certainly count on george being in the middle of it. he isn't always necessarily the cause, but he will absolutely join in. prone to getting into fights over silly disagreements ( or just jumping in hbh ). he's reckless and has absolutely no sense of self-preservation, his mouth gets him in trouble a fair bit.
will flirt with anything that moves. deeply deeply extroverted, he spends so much time alone he's absolutely desperate for any sort of human contact. will let anyone yap at him about anything, will enthusiastically yap back.
big into sport -- you name it, george is involved. his personal favourite is boxing, though. expect to see him walking around with all sorts of injuries. anything equestrian is a close second.
a lovable rogue. he is, however, generally actually pretty harmless. just a bit of an eejit.
wanted connections.
