The Calm Before The Storm

He nodded, “you won’t.”

"I love you.." She said softly, kissing his cheek.

Gen nodded, “okay..” She mumbled. “Be safe please…I already lost a sister to him I don't want to lose you too.."

Ramon held back tears as he said the word, “yes.” He kissed the top of her head and began to rub her back slowly. He just wanted her to be okay.

Gen sighed, the air warning slightly as she calmed down, but she kept herself wrapped in Ramon’s arms.

He looked over at his sister, his hands trembling and he suddenly became sad. Ramon moved to sit next to Gen, he wrapped his arm around her. “I won’t let him hurt us, I promise.” He hugged her close, he would protect his family at all costs.

Gen buried her face into her big brother’s chest, letting herself hide against him. “Promise?” She asked softly, looking up at him with tearful eyes.

He turned to look at the window, he knew that the reason he could see his breath was because he was frightening his sister. The one hes supposed to take care of and he spun to face her. Ramon opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it again, he didn’t want to upset her even more.

Gen looked up at his big brother with fear in her eyes, her body shaking slightly. “R-Ramon..you said..you said that he wouldn’t hurt us anymore…”

Ramon bunched it up in his palms and then threw it on the ground. He stood up, began…

Genevieve curled up, not answering any of his angry questions, fear overwhelming her as the ground shook slightly and the air grew cold and frost coated the mirror on her wall.

He took the letter and read it carefully, becoming angry as he did. “When did you get this?” His voice was monotone, he couldn’t look away from the page. Ramon clenched his fists which were shaking.

"This morning.." She mumbled, slightly afraid of her brother’s anger, even though it wasn’t towards her. She stayed quiet, her hair falling in her face as she hugged her knees to her chest.

Ramon stepped down the hallway, his body relaxed and he felt calm. It was the first time in a long time and as he approached his sisters room, a small smile appeared on his face. He opened the door and was just about to use a big warm greeting, he saw the expression on his sisters face. “Talk to me,” he immediately moved to her.

Genevieve sat on her bed cross legged, his eyes fixated on the letter in her hands even after she finished reading it, a horrified look on her face. As her brother came in her room she simply handed him the paper, unable to find words.

Ramon squirmed with laughter and swatted gently at Gens hands. “Knock it off! That’s so not fair,” he laughed harder.

Genevieve giggled, tickling her brother more as he squirmed. “Never! And it so is fair you tickle me all the time!”

"Hey I am a little girl!" She said in a fake upset voice, poking him in the stomach repeatedly and tickling him.

He smiled and hugged her back eagerly. “That’s good, I don’t like when you’re mad at me. We stick together,” he brushed a piece of her hair back.

"I can never be mad at you Ramon. You’re my best friend" she said with a smile, looking up at her brother and kissing his cheek.

He reached over and touched her arm lightly, “I’m sorry alright?” His tone was gentle and sincere as he looked up at her. 

Gen smiled slightly at his apology, hugging him tightly after a moment. “It’s okay” she mumbled into his shoulder as she hugged him.

He chuckled and covered his mouth instantly. “You have to admit it, it’s funny when you don’t know where they go.” He couldn’t stop himself now, his laughter rolled of his tongue fluently. “I love you Gen!” He cried.

Gen pouted over dramatically and plopped down onto Ramon’s bed, hugging her book to her chest. “It’s not funny it’s mean” she said sadly.

Ramon sighed heavily as his sister stormed…

"Yes. That one." She said angrily, snatching the book off the table, the lightening around her hands avoiding the book. "Stop taking my books" she said angrily, her voice much too soft and sweet to sound bitter though.

I havent celebrated mine in years, i wouldn’t know how
