GEM Report

Every year, the GEM Report holds an international photo contest to seek out new and original images to complement its innovative findings and analysis.  A selection of the best photos feature in the Report and associated communications products.

Due out in March 2020, the next GEM Report will focus on inclusion, addressing all groups excluded from education, including girls, the poor, migrants and refugees, ethnic and linguistic minorities, LGBT communities and people with disabilities. By analyzing countries from across the world, the Report will highlight policies and interventions to build an inclusive education system.

We are inviting submissions of original photographs that capture either the essence of inclusive education or help depict some of the key challenges standing in its way. We invite photographers to share and illustrate different interpretations of inclusive education from around the globe (these may be positive or negative depending on your experience or location), and influence the way people think through images.

If chosen, you will be awareded with $500 and your photo(s) will be put forward for selection to appear in the 2020 GEM Report and other outreach material credited with your name.

The GEM Report is issuing a new survey (French, Spanish, Chinese) designed to gather the sentiments and quotes of parents, teachers and students on inclusion and education – the theme of the 2020 Global Education Monitoring Report due to be published in March 2020.

What do you think about inclusion and education? Is it desirable? Under what conditions? What have you experienced in your class, for your children or with your friends that has helped you or others be included in education?

Your answers to this survey will bring to life some of the research in our Report, showing that this is a subject that affects peoples’ lives, and deserves greater attention.

If you would like to get involved further, we are looking for champions in inclusion and education – teachers, head teachers, schools, students, parents, communities, activists, academics, civil servants or politicians.

We are looking for champions in inclusion and education, hoping that their stories will illustrate the real meaning of inclusion in education for everyone to understand. Championing these stories in the Report, through our events and in the media will help inspire others to follow their example.
