I saw this on Facebook that is posted by Jim Tam.... Why make me choose?!?!?!
But, I do have an idea on who would qualified the most based on YYH lore and each of their personalities. I will determine who would be best.in each category. Let's begin:
According to the Yu Yu Hakusho wiki and anime, to become a Spirit Detective, you need to be in your prime either as a teenager or as a college student. For example: Yusuke Urameshi was only 14 years old when he was first hired as a Spirit Detective after coming back to life.
They need to have psychic abilities and use spirit energy .
It is currently unknown if demons would actually become a Spirit Detective, aside from Yusuke's resurrection as a Mazoku, it wasn't confirmed nor stated. So unfortunately, Kurama might be out of this one.
Kuwabara himself has Spirit Energy and Psychic abilities such as Spiritual Awareness. As much as Kurama is a good candidate, I don't think he would qualify due to him being a fox demon (unconfirmed/unanswered).
#2: Personality Traits and Abilities
This is a TOUGH ONE for me. Let's start with my favorite, Kurama.
Kurama has very interesting personality traits on being Spirit Detective. He is very intelligent (wise beyond his years), analytical and thinks a few more steps ahead than others, and is a rather even-minded. He also has a rather acute sense of smell, can see through facades, and an ability to read lips (the sense of smell due to being a fox of course).
If you have read the last few chapters of the YYH manga, Kurama actually solved the case! Yusuke was sent to Keiko's school when mysterious handprints keep appearing and disappearing whenever they try tell the others what they saw. At first, it seems like the school was haunted. However, Kurama figured it is ACTUALLY a human's doing.
It is pretty simple yet complicated to explain, the handprints were actually painted on translucent films (with translucent tape to make them stick), and when people see the hands and they grab their friends, the film simply comes off without a single trace.
Kurama also hired a traveling demon to force a confession on a 'witness' of the supernatural occurrence.
Anyway, Kurama's abilities are more about using demon energy and plants, plus his intelligence to plan out his next move. And, hoo boy, his plants can be pretty useful! For example: Parrot plant, to imitate voices and trick the terrorists (as seen in the OVA and manga).
Seriously, I can go ON and ON about Kurama and his personality (and his hotness ^-^); But now, let's talk about my 2nd favorite, Kuwabara!
Kuwabara aside from not being a brightest crayon in the box is actually very loyal, kind, and brave. His courage, honor, and perseverance are among his best personality traits. He doesn't know when to quit and will absolutely NOT break his code in order to achieve his goals. On being a Spirit Detective, those traits would actually be very helpful.
At times, he can be pretty stubborn as a mule when it comes to fighting opponents, like with Byakko. He doesn't stop unless it is over. Despite being heavily injured in the Dark Tournament, Kuwabara fights Risho.
He has also shown that he is pretty intelligent (not as intelligent as Kurama though). His Spiritual Awareness is pretty useful and can help him win against demons. For example, Byakko was being overfed with Kuwabara's Spirit Energy, as he sensed that Byakko couldn't handle all of that in his stomach (just like when humans can't over consume food or they will get a stomach ache).
He can be a bit of a lovey-dovey dolt when it comes to Yukina, which could actually be pretty distracting or beneficial towards him.
He wields a Spirit Sword and a Dimensional Sword at will with his Spirit Energy. His spirit sword can extended its length and change form to Kuwabara's will. But his dimensional sword is the strongest! It can cut through other dimensions and demons, seen when Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama were trapped in Itsuki's portal as they helplessly watch Yusuke being terribly beaten and killed by Sensui.
As much as I love Kuwabara as a character, he doesn't really have many abilities with his spirit energy and I wish that we learned more about it. Kurama may be merciless at times, but he is a right man for the job due to his analytical thinking and using his plants for trickery.
#3: Potential and History
Kuwabara's potential seems to be wasted a lot in the final arc. I just really wish we get to see him train his spiritual awareness more. Despite that, he is currently the strongest Human. But as he wants to study for college, he decided to put down his badge, for now.
He along with his older sister had been born with spiritual awareness. Shizuru has a stronger awareness than her brother though, (She'd honestly beat both Kurama and Kazuma to become Spirit Detective) but we are talking about these 2 characters. Their father, might have spiritual awareness as well, but it wasn't really explored.
Kurama's seems to be somewhat incomplete. His potential seems great, but I wish we get to see more of his abilities as a fox demon; For example, shape shifting into a fox. As Youko, Kurama might have shape shifted, but wasn't really explained. And as for the manga and anime, what is the end game here? Did Kurama really give up his Youko abilities? Did he let go of his past as Youko completely? There are a few or a lot of unanswered questions about this.
As much for that, I am giving this a tie due to a plot holes in the entire story.
Now, we have a tiebreaker!!!
Who would be a next Spirit Detective and why???
