I like the arrangement of Koi no Hallelujah for Issay's cover album but neither of those two is singing in a good place for their range it's such a strange decision they made with that.
Hey so I've actually really been meaning to get into Der Zibet; any albums/songs/live videos to recommend as a good starting point?
Hey! I don't know if I'm the best person to ask for a specific "get to know this band from a small selection of songs/videos" type recommendation. I've never watched their live videos for more than a few minutes and I mostly listen to the albums I have on cd. In general I tend to just go through an artist's whole discography album by album... But some albums I really like are Homo Demens, Trash Land, Bessekai and Fujouri. They were on Hiatus from 1996 until 2007 and you'll find that their sound and particularly Issay's voice changed, so those are two pre and two post hiatus albums for you to listen to. For me "getting" into an artist is just picking an album or song and listening to it and listening to more if I liked it, and I spend many hours a day listening to music so that's just a lot of time to get to know new songs. I can't reduce it to "just listen to these 10 and you'll get the gist!" bc there's a lot, so I hope you'll like one of the albums, and maybe you'll have a strong preference for the pre hiatus or the post hiatus sound, and then you can do some digging yourself based on the one you like the most.
honestly strange that I've straight up never seen anyone in the crossover buck-tick and der zibet fandom talk about the many songs Hikaru composed for Sawada Kenji. Even if you don't care about him, his name is mentioned as an inspiration in multiple interviews with both Issay and Sakurai. And then you find out one of the guys in the band WROTE music for him. It seems like an obvious thing to check out? No one ever thought "wow I want to hear more music like der zibet" and went "so i should check out the other songs written by one of the songwriters in der zibet"
the songs composed by him have such a distinct flavor to them. completely different from most of the songs i've heard in julie's catalogue

Samurai Reincarnation sucks so bad I get mad when I think about it
Jaadugar: a Witch in Mongolia ending "Hoshi" by Ziyoou-vachi
i'm not even a huge der zibet stan or anything (im not super invested in the band members outside of their music nor do i know if i've even heard their whole discography yet, i definitely can't remember the names of most songs), i just think both buck-tick and atsushi sakurai and der zibet and issay are more interesting individually than their brief collaborations, and their music is more interesting than the fact that they were attracted to each other
i wanna watch the new iwtv season for whatever crumbs of louis and claudia i can get but i've heard it's bad
side note. some of the sawada kenji songs composed by hikaru sound like they really would be so much better as der zibet songs
for example, this one just does not suit his voice but can you imagine if it was issay?!
list of Julie songs composed by Hikaru by the way for those who are interested:

der zibet is cool i kinda wish we could talk about them more without it inevitably leading back to the yaoi or the deaths
look im never going to like a thing that reduces the one who wears dresses to the one who looks pretty and is caring and the one who wears pants to the one who fixes your house, okay?
whenever someone points out the misogyny in how many people talk about butch and femme women, there's always a person who goes on and on about how it has its roots in blue collar work and how the way labor was divided (in a very specific time and place) is so important to the identity and blah blah. and i just have to say well thankfully we don't live in that time anymore? we don't have to keep around very regressive ideas about who can do what kind of work just because it makes one person feel good.

y'know i don't really love how people use "butch" interchangeably with "handy"
