Thinkin bout that time Ranma emotionally ruined me
Ranma 1/2, Episode 49, Am I... Pretty? Ranma's declaration of womanhood.
This episode I swear
HEY WHAT?
I find it interesting that because these scenes are treating Ranma as a woman instead of a boy who turns into a girl, they've managed to portray a transfem experience far more honestly and well than if they had consciously intended to do so. This hits incredibly hard and reminds me of the feelings I had when I first read Ranma as a very young teen who had no idea she was a girl
These scenes are from the episode where Ranma bonks their head and then started acting like a very feminine.
Until she bonks her head again and goes back to normal.
Absolutely wild that this was an anime-original episode that won't be included in the new adaptation. For all the problems with this episode and how The Girl is handled, it's both a pretty solid addition to Ranchan's existing traumagenic plurality and an absolutely incredible performance by Yamaguchi. Considering all the deep-voiced characters he does, it's amazing how well he manages to sell you on the idea that this is a dysphoric girl.
