The Night Can Freeze
A double drabble written for SWGâs 8/1/2026 instadrabble session for the prompt âit gets so cold here / and the night can freeze before you set it fire.â Also on AO3.
âAre you cold?â Tuor asked.
VoronwĂ« looked at him with raised eyebrows. The smallest hint of a smile played on his lips. âNo colder than usual.â
Tuor felt his cheeks colour. What a ridiculous questionâ snow packed beneath them, flakes falling heavily just beyond the shallow cavemouth, a chill wind howling ceaselessly. Tuor ignored a twinge of embarrassment to press on.
âIt is onlyâ well, my cloak is warmer than your blankets, and it is large enough to cover us both. You can come closer, if you wish.â
VoronwĂ« laughed, though not unkindly. He said, âI do wish that, very much.â
He shuffled closer and watched with sparkling eyes as Tuor reached across him, spreading out the cloak to cover them both.
âMm,â he hummed, âthis is warmer now indeed. Though in truth, I find myself still cold. Are you cold, Tuor?â
Tuor was hopelessly distracted by the dimple at the corner of VoronwĂ«âs mouth. âIâve heard it said,â he found himself saying without thought, âthat shared body heat is a better remedy for the cold than any.â
VoronwĂ«âs grin widened. âIs that so? Perhaps we ought to give it a try.â
âYes,â breathed Tuor, already reaching for him. âLets.â
Two Paths Diverge
Does 400 words count as a drabble? Either way, hereâs some Fingon and Turgon pre-Gondolin goodbye angst written for SWGâs 8/1/2026 instadrabble session for the prompt âthese roads go on forever / and there'll always be a place for you in my heart.â Also on AO3.
âFingon⊠you know I love you, right?â
Fingon furrowed his brow. âI⊠love you too?â
âNo,â Turgon shook his head and abruptly stopped walking. Caught off guard, Fingon stumbled to a halt half a pace later. Turgon tightened his jaw and glanced down the empty corridor.
âTurvo?â Fingon frowned, stepping closer. âWhat is it? Is something wrong?â
âNo,â his brother offered him a brief, tight-lipped smile. âAll is well. It is only⊠I will miss you, you know.â
âIf you miss me so much,â said Fingon, trying for levity, âthen perhaps you should visit me more often. Dor-LĂłmin is not so far away from Nevrast, you neednât wait another fifty years before coming again.â
âI know,â said Turgon quietly. He looked down, then took Fingonâs hands in his own. Something about the touch stirred to life a strange, uneasy feeling in the pit of Fingonâs stomach. âIâm⊠sorry I have not been here as often as I should.â
âOh, Turvo, I was only teasingââ Fingon began hastily, but his brother interrupted.
âLet me speak,â Turgon said, a little sharply, before his lips twitched into the smallest smile. âFor once.â
Fingon snorted. âGo on, then.â
It took his brother a moment to start again.
âIâm sorry I have not been here as often as I should,â Turgon repeated carefully. âAnd I am sorry, also, that our hearts have so often led us down diverging paths. Whatever comes, Finno, I want you to know that I have always admired you. Your bravery, your hope, your stubborn insistence on clinging to both even when everything seems lost. You are good, FindekĂĄno. Youâre probably the best of us.â
âWell, now youâre just frightening me,â said Fingon with an uneasy laugh.
âDonât be frightened,â Turgon shook his head. And then, without warning, he drew Fingon into a crushing embrace. He seemed not even to register Fingonâs shocked Oh!, nor the awkward beat of uncertainty that passed before Fingonâs arms wound tightly about his waist in return. Turgon exhaled unsteadily into Fingonâs hair. âI just⊠wanted to be sure that you knew.â
âI do,â Fingon promised.
âGood.â Turgon kissed his brow, then drew back and cleared his throat. âNow, come and say goodbye to ItarillĂ« and ĂrissĂ«.â
âOh, weâve already said all our goodbyes.â
His brother considered him for a moment then, his keen eyes unreadable. At last, he said, âCome and say them again, then.â

generally you shouldn't write run-on sentences because they get confusing and it doesn't give the reader a break. that doesn't apply to me though my run-on sentences are fun and understandable and they have a rhythm to it that makes you want to keep reading
