Hidden in the trees on top of the mountain by the Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley Campus lies an 18 hole disk golf course. Due to its location, not many people know about this hidden fun. With great views of Sopris Mountain, this is definitely a locals "secret" place to fun and beauty.

Looking for a chic and unique boutique? Look no farther than the Bleu Door Boutique in Glenwood Springs. Inside you will find handmade jewelry that is one of a kind. They also carry cute accessories like scarfs and hats. This small business is a must see if you're in town shopping!

Sweet Adventures is a great place to grab a bag of candy, an old-fashioned soda, or an ice cream cone. They carry over 20 different flavors of Jelly Beans, flavored sodas such as bacon flavor, and a large selection of different candies (as seen in picture). The owners hopes to expand and serve sandwiches and coffee during the fall.

The Blue Bird Cafe is a little coffee joint downtown Glenwood Springs. Locals go here to enjoy scrumptious drinks, fresh made sandwiches, and even pizza while studying.

Being a friendly and welcoming county is one of the many ambitions of Garfield county. In order to make it more friendly, the city council of Glenwood Springs is working to make the downtown area more pedestrian friendly so people can enjoy themselves more.

Individuals in Garfield county strive to help others and give back to the community. A unique way of doing this is donating a canned good to get a free ride up the gondola to the Caverns Adventure Park. Can for a Tram takes place almost every Saturday when bands play live music on top of the mountain.

Residents of Garfield county strive to be more eco-friendly. They have a passion for reducing their carbon footprint any way they can. This is done by using reusable bags, riding bikes to work, recycling centers, and local bus systems.

The White River Plateau Timberland Reserve was established by President Benjamin Harrison in 1891. Today it is know as the White River National Forest and covers 480,000 acres in Garfield County. It is rated in the top 5 national forests for visitor usage. Thanks to Benjamin, people have been able to enjoy the priceless natural beauty where they can fish, hunt, hike, and ski.

In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt was brought in to New Castle by railroad for his famous hunting trip to the Divide Creek area. A train system is still used today called The Amtrak. This passenger train runs from California to Chicago and stops throughout Colorado including Glenwood Springs. This is just one way Garfield county follows the pioneering nature.

In the early years, hunters and pioneers traveled by foot through the mountains to explore the area and establish a home. Now, The Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteer program, a nonprofit organization, works with students of all ages to help improve trails within the valley as well as work on other community projects such as local gardens. They even offer yoga in the park to encourage a more down to earth lifestyle. Their vision is to “empower our community to create a lasting legacy for future generations.”

Friday night football games bring the whole town together. Everyone is passionate about their local high school athletic teams. With fast pace plays, hard hitting spikes, and tumbling stunts, there is plenty of energy within sports to pull the community together.

Artwork is abundant throughout Garfield county. It provides a unique spirit to places such as an alley (top right) or a boring street corner (top left).

What keeps everyone going day to day? Food! Food is something almost everyone is passionate about here in Garfield County. Not only does it give us the physical energy to keep going but it also provides a sense of energy to each town in the county. Take Carbondale for example. Along Main Street there is a plethora of different cuisines and quaint restaurants that keep the town energized!
