Ibarri Pax had been born and raised on Chalacta, knowing from a young age that he was meant to do great things within the Republic. Despite being from the Mid Rim, he and his family relocated to Chandrila so that he could complete his education. He began to learn the ins and outs of politics in the Republic, and was deep into his studies when something brought Jedi to the planet. Fate was kind as he was introduced to the young Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi, and the two connected instantly. Ibarri had never felt so close to someone. And for years, the two would meet, growing ever closer.
Things began to change when Ibarri realized his feelings for Obi were growing stronger and stronger. But there was nothing he could do to change them. Soon their meetings took on a new aspect. Not only would he share his thoughts and ideas, or help walk Obi through a problem, they eventually began to hold each other close and even shared a few kisses in secret.
Had the Jedi not been called away so often, Ibarri felt they might have had a chance at a real relationship. But Obi Wan was always on the go while Ibarri began to climb through the ranks on Chandrila. Now as an advisor to the senator, he finds himself face to face with Obi Wan again, and the tightness in his chest is telling him those lingering feelings were as strong as ever.
“You look good,” he greeted, a smile on his face. He glanced at the young man next to him and raised an eyebrow. “Where is Master Qui-Gon?” It had been years since they’d talked, since they’d had a chance to catch up. But already he could see a difference in the man he’d slowly been falling in love with. “What brings the two of you to Chandrila, old friend?”

Clark melted, in an instant, his heart filling with warmth. His touch was light, tender. “Please don’t apologize for that.” He said, and leaned forward, letting his lips meet Dick’s at last. He pressed in softly, giving Dick room to pull away if he wanted to. He knew there was plenty more to say, but this kiss felt long overdue. He couldn’t help it.
Babs nodded, a bit numbly. “Thanks for coming.” She let Kori guide her into the apartment and went straight for her gear, getting changed quickly as the other three convened in the living room. “I sensed nothing with my magic,” Raven confessed as Babs stepped back out of her room. “No trace to track him with.”
Kyle smiled, kneeling at the side of the couch with his basin. “Thanks. I’m a graphic designer, so I have a bit of any eye for composition.” He dipped a washcloth into the warm, soapy water and raised it to the wound. “This might sting - let me know if you need a break.” He was gentle as he cleaned the wound, touch delicate. He couldn’t help but admire Garth, the lovely and strong lines of his body. It was clear he was powerful, graceful. It must have taken a lot to wound him.
“I’ll send out an alert to everyone.” Bruce confirmed, on his phone. He turned towards the second alarm, trying to subdue the panic in his chest. “It’s Kate’s. But it’s still attached, just damaged. She’s - she’s at Kara Zor-El’s apartment, she’s safe. For now.” He typed quickly into the computer, silencing the alarm. “But if someone’s come for both of them - it’s possible we’re all in danger. I’ll get everyone to gather at one of our secret rendezvous points.”
Kara nodded, sweeping Kate up into her arms and flying them out the window. She stopped briefly a few rooftops over to call Conner, once she could be sure they were far enough away from their attackers. “Okay, Conner’s on alert. Should I tell Kal too?” She frowned, biting her lower lip.
Dick let out a surprised gasp but easily melted into the kiss. This was what their first kiss should have been, not the sloppy one that he planted on Clark the night the Joker had nearly killed them all. He felt so warm and safe and loved. He pushed closer, practically climbing up Clark’s body to wrap his legs around the older man’s waist. “Sorry,” he murmured breathlessly. He’d been waiting to do this for awhile and everything just felt right about it.
“Of course, you are our family now too.” Kori looked to Roy, frowning as he shook his head. “They were moving very fast, were they?”
Roy ran a hand through his hair, his bow at his side. “They were strong, kicked in the door and carted him off, but there’s no other signs of struggle. Nothing. We have to get to the Batman.”
Kori turned to Raven. “To the Cave, please,” she asked. As much as they were both trying to hide it, she and Roy were anxious. Roy was pale and sweating, looking around restlessly. And while she was trying not to show it outwardly, Kori could feel her chest tighten. They were lucky that Babs was safe, but what of her Jason?
“I should be fine.” Garth watched him carefully, flinching slightly. Kyle was very close and he wasn’t sure what to do with his hands. “What is a graphic designer?” He decided some small talk would be better than sitting in silence. “Is it a type of artist? You were painting when I found you.” He looked at Kyle’s hands before looking back up to his face. “How long have you been a Green Lantern?”
Diana pulled out a communicator. “I will let Dinah know to be on alert. She and Oliver are at the Watchtower with Barry tonight. They can let Hal and the Hawks know as well.” She sent a quick message before turning back to Bruce. “We should get moving. I will find Alfred for you, and we will meet you back here while you contact your team.” She kissed him on the cheek and left, knowing he was going to need a moment.
“Yes. I forgot that Dick is probably with him.” Kate felt shaken. The man had been wearing something that looked like a clown mask. Was it something to do with the Joker? He couldn’t be back. But could someone else be pretending? It had been months since that ordeal had happened. “We have to talk to Bruce now.”

@spacemomwrites
“Hey.” Clark’s voice was quiet, but he smiled. “We should -” He paused, tentative. “We should talk, yeah?” He searched Dick’s eyes, for some sign of - what, he wasn’t sure. He set down the pizzas and sodas and moved towards the living room. “Come here.” He held out an arm, and smiled, soft. “Don’t worry. I sound ominous but I just want - to talk about us. I think we should.”
Barbara shook her head, eyes wide and haunted-looking. “No. No, I’m fine. They didn’t touch me - I didn’t even see them - but they took Jason and I don’t know how and I don’t know where, Kori. I don’t know what to do.” Her breaths were coming in shallow and quick, and she glanced up at Raven, who was watching the corridor carefully and scanning it with her magics. “Good. You brought help.”
Kyle winced as Garth revealed the wound fully, along with the other scratches and bruises decorating his body. “I’ll get soap and water.” He said, moving into the kitchen to fill a basin and grab a washcloth. “What happened? Were you and Aquaman fighting someone? I can alert the Justice League if they need to check on him…I have the Flash’s number around here somewhere…”
“I mean someone shut it off, and that’s not easy to do.” Bruce frowned, grabbing his utility belt from the workbench and strapping it on. He raised a brow as they moved towards the garage, going for the batmobile. “You think Harley knew this was coming - or she’s…she’s planning revenge?” His jaw tightened. “Another kidnapping? They can’t - they can’t handle that. We can’t.” He took a deep breath. “I thought she didn’t want that life anymore.”
Kara was in her uniform in the blink of an eye, and she used her cape to divert the path of the gas canister, knocking it away from Kate. “Come on.” She said, grabbing her arm. “I can fly us out of here - we’ve gotta figure out what’s going on -”
Dick relaxed some. Clark didn’t look like he was ready to kick him out at least. He stepped forward into Clark’s arms. “Yeah, we probably should talk. My feelings haven’t changed, Clark. Except only to get stronger. I know I probably shouldn’t have let myself... but I’ve never felt safer in my life. I’m happy now. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and screaming. I don’t see danger around every corner. You’ve helped me become stronger just by being around and in the process I just... kind of fell even more in love with you. I’m so sorry, Clark.”
“We got here as quickly as we could.” Kori helped Babs to stand up, holding her close. “Roy is in your apartment, in case there are other clues. But...” She looked to Raven for a moment before back to her other friend. “You should suit up and we will go to the Cave of Bats.”
“It was his brother, Orm, again.” Garth sighed, a hand on his side. “He keeps trying to steal the Throne of Atlantis. His armies often poison their weapons and while I am immune to most toxins, they keep finding new ways to mutate them.” Hissing some, he peeled off his boots as well. “I am sorry for intruding on your life so much. But Aquaman will be able to handle his brother. Queen Mera will aid him.” Garth sat in his little shorts, staring at the strange walls around him. “Your home is nice. Warm.”
Diana gripped her sword. “I don’t think this fits with what we know about Harley,” she said thoughtfully. “Perhaps she saw this coming and fled, but I don’t think she has a hand in it. Do we need to alert the rest of your team?” She looked up as another alarm went off and frowned at the screen. “How can you tell who this one belongs to?”
Kate was already changing and immediately pulled on her cowl. “We need to get to the Bat Cave right now. As fast as you can get me there without turning me into jelly.” She took a deep breath. “And call Conner, tell him to not let Tim out of his sight.”

Clark nodded, gently. He wanted to kiss Dick, suddenly, but he held back. Now was definitely not the time or place - if there even was one. He guessed he’d find out tonight. “Good.” He said softly instead, reaching out and squeezing his hand. He grabbed the pizzas at the shop owner handed them over, and smiled. “Alright, let’s head out.”
Barbara was back in the living room before the door finished swinging, but she barely caught a glimpse as Jason was dragged out. Her heart seemed to stop, but she fell back on her instincts, running out after him. She ran fast, but it seemed Jason and his captors had disappeared before her eyes. “Fuck - fuck -” She took a deep breath, trying to stop herself from panicking. She had to think. Quickly, she dialed Kori’s number. “Kori. Someone took Jason, I need your and Roy’s help.”
“I can do that.” Kyle assured him. He paused as Garth’s eyes skirted over him; he could feel them warm against his skin. He couldn’t help but smile a little. “Shh. You’re tired. Come on, here we are.” He unlocked the front door to his apartment and led Garth in. “You don’t, um - need water or something? Like would the bathtub be better than the couch?”
“With your help.” Bruce smiled, but it broke as the alarm sounded. He swiveled his chair to face the beeping monitor, typing quickly to discern the alert. “It’s - Jason. I have trackers on all of them, just - don’t tell them. It’s just to monitor them when they go out on patrol but, this alert - his is broken. Forcibly.”
Kara smiled, “I’m sure it will be perfect the way it is.” She assured Kate, squeezing her shoulder. “Can I help? I’m not…terrible in the kitchen.” She laughed. “I mean, I’m best with takeout, but I’m sure together we can make something yummy.”
Dick squeezed his hand back and nodded, smiling at Clark. He wanted to keep holding it, but he let Clark lead the way here. The apartment wasn’t too far off and it was a nice day out, so the walk was enjoyable. They were both quiet but Dick knew that neither of them were mad. There was just a lot that needed to be said. Arriving at the apartment, Dick went in first, setting down the bag of food and turning around to face Clark. “I...” He trailed off, not sure where to start, but he looked at Clark like he was the only other person in the world.
The air in Barbara’s apartment rippled and a portal opened, created by Raven. Kori and Roy both dropped in, tense and ready to strike. The door was open and Roy frowned. “Raven, Kori, go find Babs. I’m gonna search in here.”
“Come,” Kori said, leading Raven along as they exited the apartment. She spotted Barbara up ahead and raced towards her. “Are you hurt? What happened?” she asked, kneeling in front of the other girl and putting her hands on her face. “We should get you back into the apartment.”
Garth blushed slightly and looked around the room. “The couch will be fine. I won’t dry out.” He groaned slightly and closed his eyes. Taking his place on the couch, he peeled off his shirt to get a better look at the wounds on his sides. The gash wasn’t bleeding anymore but it was still red and angry, and the bruise on his other side was dark already. There were scratches on his thighs and legs and he blew out a breath. It would take him some time to heal but Kyle was helping out a lot.
“Forcibly? What do you mean?” Diana frowned, studying the screen. “You shouldn’t keep too many secrets from them, but I will keep this one for you. What do you need from me?” She was already on her feet, knowing they would need to move quickly now. “Perhaps this is linked to why Harley has fled.”
Kate smiled in return. “Of course you can help,” she said, just as the door swung in. Reacting fast, Kate flung one of the knives, pushing Kara backwards. The masked men retreated some once their eyes landed on Supergirl. “They’re running,” Kate said, turning off the stove and moving to run after them, only to stop short as gas canister came flying in her direction.

Magnus raised a brow, considering. “I love you and your sister, darling. And biscuit, of course, but - let’s go to the club. It’s not open today, and I’d prefer not having to keep track of anyone shuffling through my potions and things.” He tapped out a quick message to Isabelle. “I’ve sent them the address, we can meet them there. But if you need some time more…alone, we can portal. We’ll beat them there by an hour, since they’ll be stuck in city traffic.”
Isabelle nodded. “Magnus is with Alec. He’ll meet us at Pandemonium.” She pulled herself into the van next to Clary, watching as the boys settled in front. “Let’s go. We’ll stop for food along the way.”
Simon clicked in his seatbelt and pressed on the accelerator, glancing in the rearview mirror to make sure they hadn’t been noticed and followed. “How does everyone feel about curly fries? God, I miss curly fries…” He glanced over at Jace. “We, uh, might need to stop somewhere different for vampire dinner.”
Alec nodded, gathering up the rest of his things. “We can portal. I should probably clean up before the others get there anyway.” He was so glad Magnus was going to let them use his club. The loft was great, but it wouldn’t be just the two of them. Kissing Magnus again quickly, he smiled. “Ready when you are.” He felt so light after his confession. And stronger. They were going to take on the Clave and they were going to change things.
Clary exhaled. “Good. And curly fries sound great. I could kill for a real cheeseburger right now.” She held on as the van moved forward, also looking back. Thankfully the men weren’t leaving the grounds. “They’re going to be so mad when they all slowly realize we’re missing.”
“They can stay mad,” Jace said, leaning towards Simon. “We’ll go somewhere private at the club.” He put a hand on Simon’s arm before pulling back again. “I’m just happy Alec didn’t bail.” Rubbing his chest, he sighed. Alec actually seemed content now.

“Sure, let’s get sodas.” His gaze on Dick was gentle, considering. “You’ve been feeling better though, right?” He asked, soft enough that the man preparing their pizzas couldn’t hear him. “You’ve seemed happier, but I don’t want to presume…” He was almost sheepish, running a hand through his hair. “If there’s anything more I can do, you’d let me know, right?”
Babs smirked, a warm and playful energy in her expression. “I’m always good, aren’t I?” She leaned up and kissed Jason’s cheek, voice softening. “I love you too.” She pulled away, slipping into her room to put on her favorite studying clothes - sweatpants.
“I guess being a Lantern gives me an advantage with stuff like this.” Kyle pursed his lips slightly, looking down at the orb. “Does this mean the poison is out?” He asked, carefully setting the orb aside. The second he released it, it dissolved. “Don’t worry about that now. I’m just glad you seem better - but you still should lie down and let me clean that.” He reached his arm around Garth again. “It’s just a few more blocks.”
“You completed us.” Bruce agreed. “I never thought I’d have something like the League. I’ve been alone since I was a child, except for Alfred - and then Dick. I think that’s why I worry about him so much, and the others. I never want them to feel alone like that.” He sighed, watching Diana with soft eyes. “Especially now that I know what it is to be part of a family again.”
Kara laughed. “You sent him Tim’s way, huh?” She ran her hands over her hair, smoothing it out from the windswept look. “Not at the moment, unless you count Cat breathing down my neck about my next writing deadline. But that can wait until tomorrow.” She beamed. “What are you making? I’m so hungry.”
Dick’s breathing slowed for a moment. He looked up to Clark and for a moment they were they only two people in the restaurant. He wanted to let the older man know that Dick had never been better and that this life they were making together was something he’d sorely needed. “You...” Dick had to think carefully about his next words. “I’ve never been happier, Clark. It’s all because of you.” He let that hang there for a moment as the man behind the counter handed him a bag full of their sides and drinks. They were going to have to have a longer conversation, he could feel it. It scared him, the thought of suddenly losing Clark, but he also knew that he could never be angry or sad. Clark had given him the means to get back on his feet and helped to heal everything the Joker had broken that night. Dick would always be thankful for that. Plus he was sure Martha would still let him come visit her in Smallville.
“Mmm, sometimes you’re bad,” Jason called after her. He fixed their plates and grabbed the bread, setting it all down on the table. It had taken them some time to get to this point, but they were both happy now. Maybe not completely whole, but they didn’t need to be. They were enough for each other, and he suspected enough for their family with Bruce and the others. The Joker was dead and they had come out on top for once. He heard a strange creaking and got up, heading towards the door. It swung inward and before he could react someone grabbed him, covering his face and knocking him out. The door rebounded on the wall, shaking it as it came to a stop halfway.
“Yes, the poison has been pulled out, but I’m still weak.” Garth held on to Kyle again, resting his head against the man’s shoulder. He was tall with long limbs, but Kyle picked him up easily. “Rest will do me some good. And you may need to clean up the cut some more.” It still stung but he wasn’t in the same kind of pain. Mostly now he was just tired. Instead of thinking about that, Garth studied Kyle’s profile. “Beautiful,” he murmured again, sliding his eyes to the older man’s lips before finally looking away.
Diana smiled at him. “And what a family that has become.” She placed a hand on his shoulder. “I can’t speak for them, but you can tell they feel less alone now. You led them through an extremely dark time and have all come out the stronger for it.” A rapid beeping on the computer caused her turn around quickly though, and she looked quizzically to Bruce. “What is that alarm for?”
“Guilty.” Kate laughed with her. “But Tim is so in love with him, he won’t mind the company. Especially since Steph is on bed rest after spraining her ankle.” Holding up a book, Kate smiled sheepishly. “It’s this vegetarian pasta dish that Diana told me about, but I’m not sure I’m doing it right. It does not look like the picture at all so far.”

Isabelle couldn’t help but laugh at her brother and his boyfriend. She’d never seen Jace so gone for somebody. Usually he was in perfect control - just like herself, until Clary. “I’ll text Magnus.” She said, digging her phone out of her pocket. “But let’s head towards his apartment now. It’s best to put distance between us and the Institute.”
Simon nodded, a bit dazed as he attempted to smooth out the wrinkles in his shirt. “Do you all want to take my van? It’s parked down the street.”
Magnus nodded, fingertips trailing Alec’s arm as he pulled away to pack up his stuff. He felt light, like nothing could go wrong today. Alec loved him. He was lost in these thoughts when his phone buzzed, and his brow furrowed as he pulled it from his jacket pocket to check it. “Oh, darling? Seems like your sister is wondering where you’re at. You left your phone at home. What should I tell her?”
“They won’t know your van,” Jace nodded as they all began to move. “They’ve been too preoccupied with other things than stalking baby vampires.” He pulled off his jacket, deciding he needed a little more freedom to move. “Should we tell him that we’re already heading to his place?”
Alec frowned some as he paused his packing. “I left it at home on purpose.” He packed away his bow and quiver, carefully turning back around. “How do you feel about having a bunch of runaways in your apartment?” he asked cautiously. “Or we could meet with them at the club. We’re all going to be in trouble before the day is over. Might as well be together.”
Clary climbed into the back of the van, glad she was no longer in her heels and dress. “We should probably grab something to eat before we get there. Being on the run is making me hungry.” She looked up, frowning as she noticed a few men stepping outside of the Institute down the street. They hadn’t spotted them, but she knew they were starting to catch on. “And we should probably make it fast.”

“Order whatever you like. I’m sure we’ll be able to eat it all, and if not - leftovers.” Clark smiled, and nodded to the shop owner as he began packaging up the cannolis for them. “Yes, the two pizzas - and the garlic knots, please.” He said, reaching in his back pocket for his wallet. “It’s the works tonight.” He glanced over to Dick, corner of his mouth lifted in amusement. “Cheese and true crime dramas…are we cliche?”
Barbara stepped closer instinctively, wanting to prove to him that he shouldn’t be scared, that she wasn’t going anywhere. “If that’s what you want.” She paused, taking a deep breath. “It’s what I want. But I’m not looking to push you into anything, I know it’s not your usual…style. I’m just happy to be around you.” She reached out, intertwining their fingers. “It feels good, though. You calling me your girlfriend. Can you believe us?”
“Oh boy. Yeah, okay, I have a little bit of experience with seemingly impossible objects.” Kyle reached out and took the ball of water. It felt cool, like silk against his fingertips, but he didn’t have much time to marvel at it. He reached down, running the water over Garth’s side. “Stay with me, okay? You can rest once we get you back to my apartment, but you gotta stay awake for this. You’ve got this.”
“I know. Clark always does what’s right, but this… you can’t always be logical with love.” He sighed, squeezing Diana’s hands lightly. “Yes and no. I know Clark would be good for him, and I think he’d be good for Clark too. But it’s hard to let go - I feel like Dick is a son to me. I don’t want him getting hurt, and it’s…strange. Clark and I didn’t always get along, as you know.”
Kara swooped in through the open window. She’d taken to flying home from work lately, it was a lot faster, even if it left her with ruffled hair. “Conner?” She called, hearing noise in the kitchen. Her cousin didn’t cook often, preferring takeout or easy meals, but it sounded like something elaborate was going on. She stepped towards the kitchen only to catch a glimpse of bright red hair, and she beamed. “Kate!” She practically leaped forward, catching the older woman in a hug. “I didn’t expect to see you today.”
“Mmm, leftovers,” he said with a laugh. “Let’s add in some breadsticks then. Ranch and marinara for the dipping sauces.” Dick continued to scan the menu, smiling some when Clark asked if they were cliche. “Nah, we’re just happy,” he answered without thinking about it. They were happy. “And there’s nothing wrong with being cliche.” He looked up, finally catching the server’s knowing smile. Dick blushed and set the menu down. Things had been going so well lately. If this was all he would ever get from Clark, he knew he would be fine. With a soft sigh, he moved back to Clark’s side, feeling content and relaxed. The older man could only want to be friends and Dick knew he would be fine with it. “What do we have to drink? Should we grab some sodas? I’m not really in a beer or wine kind of place lately.”
Jason pulled her to him. “You have a boyfriend,” he teased, kissing her on the forehead. “I love you, Red. I think we make a good match.” Smiling, he let her go. “Now, go finished getting ready. Dinner is almost done and I’m starving. If you’re good, I’ll be your dessert.”
Watching as the ball of water began to get murky, Garth frowned. “Whatever cut me, poisoned me,” he noted, some color returning to his cheeks. He would still need to rest, but he didn’t feel as dizzy anymore. Instead he lifted his shirt up to his chest so Kyle could get to the bruise on the opposite side of the gash. “You are good at this. Thank you. Most people cannot hold the orb together on their first try.” Garth watched as Kyle’s hands moved easily, gliding the orb over his wounds. “I think I should be okay to move now.” The orb was a murky blackish-purple and he frowned. “You saved my life. I owe you.”
Diana got to her feet, pulling Bruce up with her. “Clark and Dick are both adults,” she told him gently. “And I remember. You were both at odds constantly.” She laughed some, her hair moving with her. “It’s a good thing I showed up when I did. This little boys club of yours needed me.” She walked towards some mementos he had. “It needed all of us. The League may not have come together any other way.”
“Oh, I’m sure he’s out bird hunting,” Kate joked, her face brightening as Kara entered the room. “Well, our last dinner was interrupted by your Banshee friend, and the one before that was the terrorist cell. I figured third time has to be a charm, right? Got any life threatening situations going on I don’t know about?”

“O-oh.” Simon laughed, reflexively, a bit nervous but thrilled at Jace’s actions. He let himself be pushed up against the wall, enjoying the feeling of being surrounded by Jace. “Yeah, guess we might as well let every set of parents walk in on us kissing.” He laughed again, the sound turning into a bit of a gasp as Jace’s lips found his jaw. He felt like his stomach had dropped out from underneath him. “Oh fuck.” Simon swore, softly. “Fuck, yeah, but I really shouldn’t be thinking about that right now if you actually want to get to Brooklyn within the next few hours. The vest alone, Jace.”
Isabelle smiled proudly. “Yeah. My big brother, changing the world. I always knew he would. Everyone was always impressed with Jace, you know - he’s such a warrior. But I knew Alec would be special, too. He’s got a big heart, and a sharp mind.” Isabelle nodded, slipping behind the statue and pulling Clary with her into the tunnel. “Here.” Quickly, she drew a night vision rune on Clary’s arm. “It’s not far, we can probably meet up with Jace and Simon.”
Magnus’s heart beat like a drum in his chest. His smile was wide, unable to be contained. “I love you, Alexander.” He said, soft but steady. He felt it in his bones - a love like he hadn’t known in decades, perhaps centuries. “If anything, this long life I have is so I could meet you. I believe in that destiny.” He leaned up and kissed Alec, long and deep. “Now as for what you want to do today…storm the Institute and call off the wedding? Or something less dramatic? We could hide away for the day if you’d rather confront your parents tomorrow.”
“Jace is pretty cute but...” Clary bit her lip. “Please don’t be jealous but your brother is beautiful.” She laughed some, holding onto Izzie’s hand. “You both are, honestly. Simon is right. It’s a lot to handle sometimes. But Alec is so... is regal the right word? I would have been more in awe of his presence had it not meant I was in trouble.” Sighing, she kissed Izzie, holding her face in her hands for a moment. “We’re going to help Alec change things around here. I’m excited.” she pulled Isabelle with her, letting out a gasp when she exited.
Jace had Simon against the wall, the other boy’s legs wrapped around his waist. He laughed breathlessly, pulling back from their kiss. “Sorry, he was teaching me some Star Wars lines,” Jace explained. He carefully extracted himself and stepped back, trying to compose himself. “Guess we got a little carried away.”
“I’ll say,” Clary sighed, smiling and shaking her head. “We’ll have to let our hormones rage later. First we need to find Alec.”
Alec kissed back, not wanting to pull away. “I love you, too,” he said softly in Magnus’ ear. The words were just for him right now, filled with every ounce of love he held for the Warlock. It was empowering being loved by Magnus and loving him in return. “My mother won’t get the hint if I return, let’s lay low in Brooklyn. We’ve earned a day off. We’ve earned this.” He finally let go and turned to move back to his things. “Let me pack up first.”

“Sure. And an order of garlic knots?” Clark beamed, loving the expression of delight in Dick’s eyes. Even after all that he’d been through, there was still such a joyous and loving energy to Dick sometimes. It was truly beautiful. “Might as well get some cannolis to go, too…” He laughed, running a hand through his hair. “I guess I’m really starving.” He approached the counter, smiling at the man behind it. It was a small place, family owned, and they all knew Clark - and now Dick, too. It felt kind of warm, being known as a pair.
Barbara had to suppress the wide grin that threatened to break out on her face, a soft flush rising to her cheeks. Normally she didn’t like anyone calling her theirs, but when it was Jason - it felt kind of right. And she trusted that he’d never try to control her. “Yeah, I guess I do kind of like it.” Her eyes were soft as she laid a hand on his arm. “Me five months ago wouldn’t have suspected it, but…I like having you around. I usually prefer being alone, but it’s easy with you.”
Kyle cursed under his breath and stopped, lowering Garth carefully onto a nearby bench. “Okay, sure, why the hell not. I guess I’ve…kind of wielded magic before.” He glanced around. “I wish I could use the ring to carry you, but I’m worried someone would spot that. We’re lucky it’s not busier.” He laid a gentle hand on Garth’s shoulder. “Okay. Tell me what to do.”
“Saving the world as always, huh?” Bruce smiled. Diana was the most impressive woman he’d ever known, and even after decades she continued to use that power to help people, rather than for any selfish gains. He was lucky to know her. “Just keeping track of everyone takes a lot of time these days…” He shrugged a shoulder. “Anyway, it’s not like Clark has been around much either. At least I don’t have to worry about Dick.” He frowned. “At least, I don’t think I do. I worry about him getting heartbroken, some days. Clark’s a good man, but…things don’t always work out. Dick can’t lose anyone else.”
“Make it two,” Dick said, following Clark to the counter and smiling at the man greeting them. “I’m starving too. We might wanna overdo it this once.” Looking over the menu, he missed the smirk the man was giving Clark. “What about adding this one?” he asked, leaning over to point to a pizza on the menu. “It’s got the works. I think I really just want something cheesy and delicious.” One of his favorite things about eating with Clark was they could both pig out and not feel bad about it. “The cannolis sound good though.”
Jason nodded. “It still... scares me,” he said honestly. “But Kori got to me one day. Tamaraneans never hide their emotions. She knew I was worried about potentially losing you. To paraphrase, she told me to cut the shit.” He looked back to Babs for a moment. “Guess having a real girlfriend isn’t so bad. I like it.” Jason finished what he was doing and turned off the stove so he could turn to Babs. “I mean, that’s what we are, right?”
“Here.” Garth mustered up a small ball of water and held it out to Kyle. “It has healing properties so lead it over my wounds. It won’t burst once you take it.” The ball wobbled slightly as if it might fall apart any second, only seeming to stabilize some the closer Garth held it out to Kyle. He winced some, doing his best to keep the spell going for Kyle. “Easy magic. Could do it... do it in my sleep.” His arm dropped some, but he kept the ball up. “Whoops.”
“That’s what we’re here for.” She smiled sympathetically and listened to him. “Clark is a very good man. And Dick is an adult. I have noticed the way he’s looked at Clark since he first became the Nightwing.” Diana’s expression was soft as she placed her hands on Bruce’s. “You raised him to be a smart and resilient young man, but the heart will want what it wants. And I wouldn’t be afraid of Clark breaking that young heart. He will do what is best.” She brought their hands up to her lips and kissed Bruce’s. “Would it bother you if they began a relationship?”
Conner tugged on his shirt when he heard the knock at the door and rubbing his face, frowned as he opened it. “’Lo?” He let his eyes focus some and found Kate Kane in the doorway. “Oh. Kara’s not home yet. She should be getting off work soon.” He let the other woman in and dropped onto the couch, watching as she carried a bag of groceries into the kitchen. “You two doing a date night?”
“Yep, so if you want to be a third wheel, speak up so I can make you a plate too.” Kate smirked at him, laughing as he hopped up and grabbed his sneakers and a hoodie. “Tim is on patrol tonight, but he could use the company.” She sighed, watching him leave. “Young love.” Singing softly to herself, she began to prepare the surprise meal she’d planned for Kara, praying they’d actually get to finish this one finally.

“Smooth.” Simon commented, moving forward. The tunnel was tight, and almost completely dark. He was grateful for his vampire vision. “Can you see alright? Do you have a night vision rune active right now?” He reached back, taking Jace’s hand. “Hey. I never asked. With, um, all this stuff with Alec - I know he’s not out to Maryse and Robert yet, but - are you?” He asked, tentatively. “Not that, like, I need you to be. I actually haven’t gotten to tell my mom and sister about us yet but - I’d like to. If that’s cool with you.” He pressed his lips together. “Sorry, probably not the right time for this talk.”
Isabelle raised her eyebrows at the stele in her hand. “You’re telling me. When we first met Lydia I hated her, but now…I don’t think I’d mind, having her as a sister. If, you know, Alec weren’t incredibly gay.” She smiled softly. “But since he is, could you imagine having Magnus as an in-law? Please.” She grabbed Clary’s hand. “Come on, we should move while they’re all distracted. If we get caught we can just makeout and they’ll leave us alone.” Isabelle winked.
Magnus let his arms wind around Alec, comfortable and easy. He felt safe in the taller man’s embrace, in a way he hadn’t since he was a small child and unaware of his demonic father. “After all this time…I can’t help but believe in it.” He rested his cheek against Alec’s shoulder, reveling in the easy warmth. “I swore I’d have nothing to do with the Shadowhunters after William Herondale died, and yet here I am. You alone could have changed my mind.”
“I can see fine.” He reached out, smacking Simon on the ass to prove his point. Jace took the hand that was offered and smirked. “Robert knows because he saw me kissing you, but I don’t see a reason to come out to either of them.” He didn’t hate the Lightwoods, but he couldn’t help but feel angry with them right now. They were still his parents, but what else could they be covering up? “I would love to meet your family. We could make out in your bed.” He laughed some and pushed Simon out into the light and boxed him up against the wall. “Do you want me to wear the costume for you?” he asked, voice low as he kissed the vampire’s jaw.
Clary nodded, following Izzie out of the room. “Things sure have changed a lot,” she noted out loud. “Your brother... he’s the one making these things happen, isn’t he? Alec and his love for Magnus.” She smiled. “He would make a great brother-in-law. And so will Simon.” Clary unpinned her hair as they walked, letting it fall back into place as they reached the falcon statue. “This the right one?”
“I think you and I were always meant to meet,” Alec admitted, looking serious for a moment as he studied Magnus’ face. “I can’t imagine any life where I don’t know you. And if there is one, it must be sad. Do you understand what you mean to me?” He gripped Magnus’ arms lightly. “I know we only met a couple of months ago but it was supposed to happen. But where we go from here is on us. This is right.”

“I’m not working on a story right now, so it’s alright. Besides…they’ve gotten pretty used to me taking half-days. For caped crusades and all that…though of course only Jimmy knows about that. They think I have family obligations.” He kept his voice low, smiling warmly as he led Dick from the building. “That sounds great. I think it would be good to recharge for a night.” And maybe Clark should talk to Dick, about whatever feelings were between them. He didn’t want to ruin a relaxing night, but it was starting to feel too big to avoid - and Clark knew how Dick felt. As much as it might complicate things, Dick deserved to know what was on Clark’s mind, too.
Babs snorted softly, amused. “Yeah, I guess anyone would be feeling pretty great around Diana.” She moved to Jason’s side, casually drawn there, her shoulder pressed to his. “And we know an active sex life is very healthy. Probably the healthiest thing we do.” She laughed softly. “Are you taking care of me, Todd?”
Kyle’s eyebrows were practically into his hairline, but he nodded. “Oh. Yeah. Okay. I don’t really know my dad either, it’s cool.” He began to guide Garth in the direction of his apartment, praying they didn’t run into any nosy tourists or suspicious locals. “Stay with me here, buddy. Keep an eye on the scenery.” He tightened his grip on Garth slightly, keeping him supported. “It is really beautiful, you’re right.”
“Crime doesn’t really take a night off.” Bruce replied, but in a lighter tone than his usual over-serious demeanor. “But it’s nothing major. I’m just reviewing the last footage we have of Harley before she disappeared. I’m trying to figure out what made her flee - and more importantly, if she plans to come back. Barbara says she has some leads on contacting Poison Ivy, but that’s sort of a last resort. I don’t really trust Pamela.” He turned off the video and faced Diana, a soft smile on his lips. “But that can wait. How are you, Diana?”
Dick nodded, feeling lighter than normal. “Alright then,” he chuckled. “Maybe we could get something for dessert too. Some of the documentaries can get pretty heavy so I’m gonna need the sugar rush.” Dick bounced a little on his feet, slowing down once they reached the pizza place Clark always took him to. He finally pulled away and opened the door, leaning against it and smiling up at Clark. “This place always smells amazing. I love coming here.” Dick only ever came here with Clark anyway. He saw his other friends, even spent time with them, but he was rarely on his own anymore. And he’d flourished under Clark’s attention and care. “Wanna try that extra meaty pizza they have this time?”
“Oh yeah,” Jason grinned, wagging his eyebrows at her. He looked down at her and expression softened as he smiled back at her. Stopping what he was doing, he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips, lingering for a moment. “It does get pretty aerobic.” He easily slipped back into his cool and collected persona, moving around her easily but keeping her close. “’Course, Red. You’re my girl.” He knew it had probably been the first time he’d put any kind of label on what they were doing, but he felt he owed it to her. She had been patient with him, knowing they were both a little damaged. “You like me taking care of you?”
“It’s beautiful,” Garth repeated, glancing at the trees before focusing back on Kyle’s face. The rows of houses came into view and he looked around, trying to remain as upright as he could, but he was starting to feel dizzy. Drooping slightly, he tried to put all of his weight on Kyle to let him know he was losing steam fast. “I think maybe I am more hurt than I realized.” Lifting his shirt, he spotted the large bruise blossoming on his side. He was starting to feel the pain now that the adrenaline of the fight was wearing off. “I can show you a healing spell that will help. Anyone can do it, so you do not need to worry about not having magic.”
Diana nodded, looking back to the now blank monitor. “Harley has always been a bit of a wild card. I know she first showed her face after learning of the Joker’s demise, but something must have spooked her if she left Gotham.” Taking his hand, she leaned in some. “Oh, put an end to a drug smuggling operation in Paris, helped war refugees at the border, the usual.” Chuckling, she sat back in her chair. “And you? Clark says he hasn’t heard from you in a few days.”

Simon valiantly resisted the urge to giggle like some schoolgirl, but it was definitely difficult when Jace looked at him like that. There were more important things to focus on now, though. Like subverting Shadowhunter traditions and saving their friend from heterosexual marriage. “Fast isn’t a problem for a vampire - especially considering I’m pretty sure your parents would rather I not be here at all. I can always go out and scout for you guys.”
Isabelle returned wearing her black leggings and a close-fitting top, twining her silver whip around her wrist carefully. She flashed a smirk. “Of course we do. How else were we going to sneak out and go on dates with downworlders? Jace and I picked rooms in this wing specifically because of the outgoing secret tunnel behind the falcon statue.”
“I believe in you.” Magnus confirmed. “I’ve seen the world change over hundreds of years, and it always starts with a determined person.” He smiled, soft and affectionate. “And you have the High Warlock of Brooklyn on your side, which means most of the New York warlocks will be on board to cooperate. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Shadowhunter willing to work with us - and actually befriend us, trust us. I suspect it may be rather…revolutionary.”
“We’ll go in pairs,” Jace said, already tugging Simon towards the door. “Thankfully no one knows about the tunnels. We’ll meet you outside.” He nodded to the girls and let Simon into the hallway. It was empty, but he could faintly hear people moving around in other parts of the Institute. They were still getting prepared, unaware that Alec was even missing. “This way.” Things went smoothly and Jace pushed Simon into the tunnel first before disappearing unnoticed. “Just head to the end.”
Clary blew out a breath. “We’re really doing this,” she said, turning suddenly when the door opened again. Lydia barreled in, shutting the door behind her. She was dressed in her gown, her hair pulled up neatly. “Lydia!” Clary cried in surprise.
“Oh!” Lydia spun around, clutching her chest. “Oh. Clarissa, Isabelle. I am so sorry. Maryse was asking me a million questions and I told her I had to use the ladies room.” Laughing slightly, she relaxed some. Looking the two girls over, she smiled. “I really hope the two of you are about to escape.” Walking forward, she slipped Izzie her personal stele. “I know your mother confiscated all of yours. Go. I’ll cover for you. We were almost sisters,” she said a little sadly. Gathering her dress up and taking a deep breath, she left the room just as quickly as she’d entered.
“This day is getting weirder and weirder,” Clary commented when she could hear Lydia demanding the roses in the chapel be moved around.
“Thank you.” Alec beamed at him. He and his friends, their generation, they could change things. It was time for Shadowhunters to catch up with the rest of the world. “To have you by my side during this... it’s amazing. I’ve never imagined this would be where my life would take me but it feels like what we have to do.” Leaning forward, he kissed Magnus again, wrapping his arms around the warlock’s neck and holding him close, their bodies pressed firmly together. “Do you believe in things like Fate?”

It would probably have been smart of Clark to say no, to start creating some distance between the two of them. To set up boundaries. To not have what was essentially a date night with Dick. But nothing in him could refuse, even if he logically knew better. His heart wanted Dick, time with Dick, and more. He had to hold himself back even now, looking at the excitement in the other man’s eyes and feeling his arm around Clark. “That sounds great.” He said, soft but sincere. “You know what? Why don’t I take the rest of the day off work, we can start right now. My boss won’t mind.”
“Hmm.” Babs slipped the flowers into her makeshift vase, admiring them, fingertips brushing the soft petals. It was so unlike Jason, this tender and thoughtful expression, that she barely knew what to make of it. It made her happy, but it was also so - relationship. She wasn’t sure what that meant. They’d never really discussed it, as they’d fallen into a pattern not unlike being together. She figured Jason would be happier without a label on it, and she was nervous about commitment herself. “Yeah, my father actually called him. I think dad was expecting to have to yell at him to take me off duty, but Bruce relented easily. He’s been…soft these days. I thought he’d go back to normal faster but…” Babs shrugged. “Why don’t we just have coffee delivered? We only have so little time together before I turn into a study-bot.”
“My place is close by.” Kyle assured Garth, letting the other man rest his weight against him. “Five minutes, at most. Just lean on me. I have a first aid kit, at least, so we can get the wound cleaned.” He raised an eyebrow gently. “Oh. I didn’t know Aquaman had - um - a son?” He guessed. He didn’t know how old Aquaman even was - he figured underwater kings probably aged differently. “My name’s Kyle.”
Dick broke from his reverie and glanced at Clark. “Are you sure?” he asked, now acutely aware of how they looked. But to suddenly jerk away would be awkward so instead he opted to let it go this time. “I don’t want to get you into trouble just because I was bored at your place.” He’d almost said home but had enough sense to stop himself. There was no telling where the line was with Clark and he didn’t want to ruin whatever this was. “But yeah, yeah, we could do that.” He grew a little more confident and animated again, thinking of all the things they could watch. “We’ll grab some pizzas and it’ll be great! Just the two of us.” Dick was happy. This was exactly what he needed.
“Bruce has been learning how to be human,” Jason answered. “It’s been a couple of months but I think it opened his eyes some. Plus it’s good he’s got the Wonder Lady in his bed all the time.” Winking and laughing he went back to work cooking. “I’ll run to the store once you entered study bot mode. We’ll worry about the coffee later. And sorry, Red, but no wine for you before your finals. Gotta keep that bat-brain sharp.”
Garth nodded, resting his weight against Kyle. “Thank you,” he repeated. “He is my King, and my mentor, and while he raised me, he is not my father.” Garth frowned slightly. “I have what your people call the daddy issues. But it is nice to meet you Kyle. You are lucky to live so close to the water. If I had to stay on land, this is where I would want to be. I can feel the sea even here.” Sighing, he closed his eyes and let him self really relax. “It’s beautiful here.”
“You over work yourself.” Diana walked through the Batcave, closing in on Bruce where he sat. “Do you ever take a night off?” She teased him lightly, knowing why he worked so hard. Kissing him on the side of his head, she took a seat next to him, watching some footage he’d obtained from a fight. “What case are you working now?”

“Yeah. We’re doing this.” Isabelle grinned, always thrilled by the gentle hint of rebellion. She’d never really been afraid of getting in trouble, and had always been compelled to go her own way, and she was pleased to have her family with her to break the rules this time. Even if her mom would probably still blame her for it all. “There’s extra gear in my closet. Alec keeps a stash of clothes and weapons in pretty much everyone’s room.” Isabelle shrugged a shoulder. “Always prepared, that one.” Unselfconscious, she stepped deftly out of her dress, leaving it in a puddle on the floor as she moved to grab more practical clothing.
“Um…” Simon was momentarily dumbstruck, watching Jace’s fingers work deftly at his own shirt. “Oh - uh - yep - we’re -” His eyes widened as he turned to see Isabelle crossing the room in only her underwear, and he swiveled quickly back to focus on Jace. It honestly wasn’t much better, as Simon’s eyes were caught up studying the line of Jace’s neck. “Do Shadowhunters exist primarily to give bisexuals heart attacks? Just a question.” He shook his head, trying to focus. “Okay. So. Sneaking out. Let’s do it.”
Magnus smile, the action full of warmth and adoration. “I need no repayment. You are more than enough for any man to be grateful for.” He returned the kiss, gentle and sure, not losing his smile. His chest felt light, breathing easy, despite the challenges he knew they would face. It wouldn’t matter. He had Alec. “I’ll be at your side for all of it, Alexander. I believe in your ability to change their minds. You’re a natural leader.”
Clary nodded fervently, moving to her closet and disappearing inside. Jace just smiled at Simon, leaning over and kissing his jaw. “You’re cute when you blush,” he said quietly, his hand on Simon’s back. He slowly pulled away, just as Clary returned in her normal street clothes. “We have to move fast. If we get stopped by Maryse or Robert or anyone else, it could be trouble.”
“I’m ready,” Clary confirmed, pocketing the arrowhead. “There has to be back ways out of this place though.” Smiling, she raised an eyebrow at Jace. “I’m sure you and Izzie know where they are.”
Sighing softly, Alec pulled back. “Do you really think we could make that big of a difference?” he asked. “There are some big things that I want to change, first and foremost how we interact and treat Downworlders.” Frowning, Alec felt guilty. He hadn’t ever outrightly been rude or hostile, but he knew it was something a lot of Shadowhunters were conditioned towards. Even Jace had his own prejudices. “With Simon and Luke also in our lives, we really need to do something.”

“My hero.” Clark grinned. “I’ll take a long lunch today. We can go grab a pizza, or something, if that sounds good?” He turned to give a friendly wave to the receptionist as they left, and he raised an eyebrow at the knowing look in her eye. Was he that obvious? He ought to tone it down, but it was hard to hide his affection for Dick. “Not unless there’s a breaking story or something. It’s been a slow news week…” He dropped his voice, so only Dick could hear him. “Slow for the night job, too. The city’s been a little too quiet. What do you think?”
Babs followed his nod to the flowers, eyebrows raising just slightly in surprise. “You…got me flowers?” She asked, unable to keep a touch of incredulity from her voice. The corner of her mouth turned up, teasing. “Jason Todd bought a girl flowers? Wow, I’m touched.” As much as she joked, it really did fill her with warmth that he’d thought to make such a gesture for her. It surprised her, the depths to which Jason had become such a part of her life. “Flowers and carbs. What would I do without you?” She picked up the flowers and went to the cabinets searching for a glass to fill with water as a makeshift face. “They’re beautiful. Thank you.” Babs said, sincere. “My criminology final is in three days, meaning I’m roughly three hours away from entering the study zone.”
Kyle raised an eyebrow. “Um, California?” He glanced around the beach, grateful it was a rare slightly overcast day and it was pretty deserted. It was a small beach close to his apartment, so he often came here to paint. On a day like this, it was almost private. Well, until bleeding strangers washed ashore. “Careful.” He helped guide the man into a sitting position, eyeing the gash in his side with caution. “We have to get that cleaned and bandaged - possibly stitched up but, uh - I sense a hospital won’t be an option…” He paused, looking down at his hand. “Uh. Yes. Nominally? I honestly haven’t had…any…training. Things kind of went weird with - nevermind, you’re hurt, you don’t care. Yes. I’m a Lantern. Come on, I’ll help you.”
“Sounds good to me. I could probably eat an entire large on my own.” Dick turned his head some, looking up to Clark, surprised at how close his face was. “Yeah, patrols have been light lately. But we’re all going out more now, so there’s less need for me to be there every night. I think we all deserve some down time anyway. But if you’re free,” he started to get a little more animated, moving in even closer to Clark and wrapping his arm around him as he got distracted, “there’s some great new documentaries on Netflix. And they added a couple of movies I was wanting to check out too. We could grab some Chinese and make a night of it!”
Jason coughed, not looking directly at her. Roy had given a similar reaction. “I got you flowers,” he echoed, finishing up the pasta sauce and staring at the pan. “Probably crash and burn.” He shrugged, trying to be nonchalant about it. It was just flowers. “The study zone. You need me to get us some more coffee then? I think you’ve got enough to get you through an hour or so.” He glanced at the cupboard for a moment, making a mental note to do a grocery run soon. Like Dick, Babs could forget to take care of herself sometimes. At least the former Boy Wonder had Clark to take care of him now. Babs had to rely on Jason, who was not the best in those situations. “You let Bruce know to pull you from rotation?”
“California.” Garth frowned. He was further away than he thought. Sliding his arm around the older man’s neck, he looked up again. “Your human doctors would unfortunately not know what to do with me. But if you have a place for me to rest, I should be fine. It doesn’t feel deep.” It stung, hurting like hell, but he could tell it wasn’t life threatening. “My ankle is also twisted, I think.” A Lantern. Good. Garth could trust him. “I’m Aqualad, but you may call me Garth. Thank you for your help. Once I am able to walk on my own, I can get in touch with Aquaman.”
