110th Street x 20 20 bliain ag fás
Saturday 24/11/18
The Blue Note, Gaillimh
110th Street’s Edge Of Seventeenth The Blue Note Galway 28th November 2015
Residents Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin with special guests AUGUSTUS & JOHN launching their debut LP 'Above Water Hull' with a live set. What's another year? And what's another seventeen years? When it comes to clubbing, you could claim that such a span encompasses three, perhaps four, generations of clubbers. Since we first started throwing club nights in the Town Hall bar back in November 1998, we've seen faces on our dancefloor fall in love, get married, have kids and while we haven't yet seen any of those kids appear at our parties, we've certainly spotted some of their cousins! The main reason we've survived so long is simply down to a love of music and a love of sharing that music with our friends & followers. Our parties might not be as regular as they used to be - after all, Galway is well catered for these days by a new wave of ebullient clubbers, DJs and club nights, the likes of which the city hadn't seen in many years. But our enthusiasm for playing the records we love has never waned and we still love to pop up every now & then for a bash .... and what better excuse to re-surface than to mark the seventeenth anniversary of our very first party? It's all happening in the Blue Note on Saturday 28th November, with long-time residents Cyril & Cian, joined by very special guests... Galway-based AUGUSTUS & JOHN who'll be launching their outstanding debut record 'Above Water Hull'. AUGUSTUS & JOHN is the music of Irish/Italian duo Mike Smalle & Matteo Grassi. Smalle has previously released a string of critically acclaimed albums with Cane141 & B-Movie Lightning. Grassi, an Italian artist living in Ireland, approached Smalle in early 2014 to produce some of his tracks. Instead they set about making a record and Augustus & John was born. In the coming months and with a collection of hook-laden songs, the duo released their debut ep ‘Crosslines’. This earned them radio play from the BBC, Chris Coco and ATT as well as receiving praise from International Blogs, Nialler9 and The Irish Times. ‘Above Water Hull’ is their debut record and it pulses with hooks and atmospheres inspired by everything from Ambient to Slow-Motion-Disco, Italo, Rocksteady, House and film soundtracks. The CD of the album comes with a story written by Claire-Louise Bennett who recently published her debut novel 'Pond' on Stinging Fly Press.
The Hive - Fri Mar 6th - Roisin Dubh
Yes, yes we are completely aware that it’s only been two weeks since the last Hive but due to happenstance and whatnot, we’re back this Friday for our uniquely marketed 'march into March.'
Much veneered musical polymaths - others might call them codologists - Cyril & Cian will be exploring the fields of disco, post-punk, Italo, bass, house and all kinds of tunes featuring decent drumming.
Come feast at our table. It’s free in and we’re taking requests right here.
[The Hive will follow the performance of Booka Brass Band]
The Hive - Friday Feb 20th
This Friday, monthly club night The Hive rolls into Róisín Dubh with residents Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin, in what we're expecting to be a great night in the grand old venue, seeing as Jape and The Mighty Stef will be onstage too. The Hive, recently described as “the only club I know where the rhythms of the world collide with the scales of the universe, along the shores of the cosmos" by an acid casualty who had spent close to two decades enjoying the fruits of the Goa trance scene. We’re not sure what he meant either, but you can make up your own mind this Friday should you walk this way. So early show is Jape & The Mighty Stef (more here: http://on.fb.me/1AMIwe6). Late show is The Hive (free in). The midnight request line is now open here

Anya is live and ready to show you everything. Watch her strip, dance, and perform exclusive shows just for you. Interact in real-time and make your fantasies come true.

The Hive (New Year Resolution)
We've made one new year's resolution. That's to go out dancing in early January while everyone else sits at home drinking those strange green juices. Are you in? Delish disco, shallow house, vapid techno, leery bass, post-punk & pre-acid with Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin This Friday, January 9th at Roisin Dubh, Galway. The request line is now open here
The Hive at Roisin Dubh - 12/12/14
Some folk spend the month of November sober as a monk at matins. There might be something dangerous then about putting on a party on the twelfth day of the twelfth month as people go kamikaze on those twelve-pub trails in cheap festive jumpers? Join Cyril & Cian this Friday as they instigate ‘une danse de la sueur’ that will make them perspire & leave them no choice but to remove those abhorrent Xmas jumpers and lock into a sweaty groove. Disco, house, post-punk & music requests from the passionate. It’s The Hive. That’s how we locomote.
Post your requests here
110th Street - Our Super Sweet 16th
110th Street Our Super Sweet 16th featuring special guest SOL O' CARROLL (Space Camp, Dublin) with Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin 5E [free pint of Kozel for first 50] 22nd November, Roisin Dubh, Galway, Doors: 23.30 Berlin's infamous Berghain is 10 years old this year, London's Fabric is 14 while here in Galway, 110th Street will be celebrating her super sweet 16th in the Róisín Dubh on Saturday 22nd November. Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin's club night has been part of the city's clubbing landscape since their maiden voyage in Galway's Town Hall back in November '98. Residencies have been held in the Radisson, the GPO (now Carbon), the Vic, the Cellar & Monroe's, with odd appearances in the Black Box and The Blue Note. The chameleonic clubnight began as a block-party club in the spirit of the golden age of New York clubbing, later brought electroclash to these stores through their GPO residency, became a hub of electro-house in the Vic (with regular guests Erol Alkan, The Glimmers, Andrew Weatherall & Optimo as well as Irish club debuts for Justice & Boys Noize), flirted with Teutonic minimalism but has since been marching to a soundtrack that encompasses disco, house, techno & Bass. For our 16th birthday, we will be joined by Nightflight & Space Camp co-founder Sol O' Carroll who rocked our boat party with Shock's Jon Averill last summer. Only a fiver in and a free pint of Kozel for the first 50. About Sol O' Carroll Nightflight and Space Camp co-founder Sol O' Carroll has been DJing on and off for the past 14 years. From his humble beginnings of discovering deep house while still in school in Roscommon, he has gone on to become a regular on the DJ circuit of Torremelinos, Lanzarotte and Dublin. Mostly Dublin. Always trying to keep an element of fun in his parties, expect something unexpected along with some fresh haus musik cuts from the deep. High fives always welcome. Not to mention: tops off.

The Hive at Roisin Dubh 14/11/14
Do you find that you sometimes have trouble sleeping at night as your brain tries to identify an insistent nagging bassline? Do you observe your life as a series of complicated dance steps? Does your concentration ever waver when you try and work or study as waves of sound wash over your brain? While we wouldn't be so bold as offer a solution to your condition (the ancient Greeks simply recognised it as ‘λάτρης της μουσικής’ or ‘music lover’), we are happy to welcome you embrace your symptoms amongst other fellow-'sufferers' on the dancefloor of the Roisin Dubh this Friday. Disco, house, techno, heavenly pop symphonies & more courtesy of Cyril Briscoe & Cian Ó Cíobháin, who’ll be doing their best to see what condition your condition is in (while also warming up for the forthcoming 110th Street birthday #16 in the same venue on Sat 22nd November). What tunes should we add to the prescription? post em here..

110th Street at The Blue Note, Galway
On a few special nights each year, the shining pearl in the oyster of Galway's West that goes by the name of The Blue Note, is granted a late night bar exemption. On such evenings you might discover that The Magic is capable of happening. Whatever sprinkling of rave-fairydust occurs when you crank up the system, book your party bitch DJs and allocate some extra hours for dancing (make-a-wish: count to three) and hey presto, you have the best club-in-a-pub you could ever hope for. No small thanks to the enduring presence of Clarinbridge's Oyster Festival on the city's inexhaustible festival calendar, Saturday 13th September is one of these special nights. Some of our most molten-hot parties these past few years have happened when the Blue Note's hours have been extended (we don't think we'll ever forget the Chic after-party for instance ) so please forgive us if we come across as over-excited and over-zealous. This is our first 110th Street sesh in the venue in over a year and to say that we're chomping at the bit would be doing a disservice to equine-inspired metaphors (whose quota were all exhausted during race week). Come along. Make it happen. For this night is long(er than usual). And it's free in.

The Hive - 5th September 2014
Join Cyril & Cian for their monthly hoo-ha in the Róisín Dubh this Friday 5th September where they'll endeavour to blow a hole through the city's post-Picnic musical apathy with a selection of tunes from across the genres & betwixt the eras. Out of the ashes of disco, post-punk, Italo & some next shit, they'll serve up a mescalin gloop to bewitch the ears and revive circulation in your mud-encrusted calves. What's more, there's no cover charge. Doors 23.30 Heard anything good recently? This is where you tell us about it..

The Hive
Friday 18th July
Even though we’re crestfallen to report that the Dominic St Residents’ Group request to have our five night occupancy of the Roisin Dubh reduced to just the one has been upheld by Galway City Council, we’ve decided not to have a diva hissy fit and go ahead and do the one Hive show. We understand that local residents were divided on the issues, with some taking legal action while others petitioned the council to renege on their decision. But no matter, instead of five nights, there will be just the one show. Apologies that we can’t accommodate our massive fan base , but we promise to make it an event to remember for those that bought their tickets in record time for our first show all those months ago. Disco, house, post-cowpunk and some of that Italo yacht-propelling sound will light the way. Ticket holders, don’t forget it’s free in and if you intend to buy tickets on the black market, don’t give the touts more than tuppence. So, dearest friends in low places, what are you favourite ‘real’ country & western songs? RSVP here https://www.facebook.com/events/720801591319109/

------------------------ 110th Street ------------------------ factory, 38 upper abbeygate st, galway Friday 11th July with Cyril & Cian Doors: 23.00 // Free in There are many factors that go into choosing a name for a club night. Back in 1998, like many clubs before and since, we decided to name our party after a song. When we first began throwing parties in the Town Hall Theatre bar, the music policy was funk, soul, Latin, boogaloo & disco, which was the kind of soundtrack we imagined one would hear on the ghettoblasters of Harlem back in the day. Once you crossed 110th Street, you were in Harlem and it was these sounds, most especially those from the seventies, that first beguiled us and soundtracked our wig-outs. And it was Bobby Womack, recently deceased, who sang the song that inspired us to pull up our bumpers to those double yellow lines and announce ourselves as ‘110th Street’ to the hedonists of the west of Ireland. If it were not for this man and his timeless jam, we may well have chosen a much more banal name for our club night. We will make sure that the steam is rising from the tarmac in your memory on Friday 11th, Mr Womack. Peace out from Gaillimh xx FACEBOOK RSVP

110th Street - The Longest Day / The Shortest Night
It's another midsummer across 110th Street and the air is thick with anticipation and midges. Our dials (and speed dials) are set for the heart of summer as we get ready to crank up the Factory soundsystem, some 24 hours after our slot at Body & Soul 2014 (we'll be playing Midnight Circus from 19.30 - 22.00 on Friday night) The evenings won't get any longer than this (in a good way) for another 12 months so come & make hay with us from 11pm. And don't forget to pack shades... dawn will be upon you soon after you leave the building.
