ANALYSIS BASE at Stedelijk museum Amsterdam

Goal: to show more of the permanent collection
The display system consists out of thin steel self-standing walls that create a flexible and open exhibition. This open exhibition is different to the standard room-to-room experiences that you see in most museums. This is meant to represents walking through a city. The flexibility of the space enables the visitor to go and explore different paths and hights throughout the space and make unexpected associations between various artworks and objects from different times and styles. Two or more walls create different open spaces throughout the room.
The exhibition is very experimental; the walls are different hights and sometimes you see a small wall with a big artwork, other times you see a big wall with a small artwork. Every route you take you can discover something different.
The collection that is displayed consist mostly out of western male artists, from 1880-1980. To balance this out there are new perspectives and non-western artists displayed in other parts of the museum. On the perimeter of the exhibition space the artworks are displayed in chronological order. This gives the visitor something to hold on to when they get lost in the 'labyrinth’ of steel walls.
