This was a result from drawing at a coffee shop. It helped that I was sitting next to my boyfriend, who was writing. "Contagious creativity" as Lynda Barry calls the phenomenon. And caffeine. Mmm.
Actually, I tried drawing at the library alone first, without caffeine, and had a worse experience! It was upsetting.
This was the homework after our guest lecture from @outsidewolves. I recommended we try to draw like him - go to a cafe, free draw, and lean into the absurd.
My gay dog characters Thag & Dio showed up. I didn't know I was drawing a comic when I first started drawing Thag playing Pokemon TCG. I know how the comic was going to end until maybe panel 3 or 4.
Some results from YCH Boss! We all drew YCH formats on notecards, then took turns being the "boss" and choosing which YCH we all had to draw our fursona or OC in. All timed! The full rules are in my zine here.

I've led this game many times. I love finding the little results in drawers and under stacks and tucked in my compbook. Drawings done on notecards have a way of traveling around. I like to print copies of them and tape the copies into my compbook these days, so that the notecards stay free to wander.

GabuCat ref sheet!!!! GabuCat is a Digivolution of my main fursona, GabuMatt. I created GabuCat after I bought him, a pre-made partial by a local maker, Saros Suitworks!
I was VERY excited that this activity went so well! After an Attendance Card warmup, we did this Quick Timed Ref Sheet activity together, starting with pencils, then inking, erasing, and coloring. You can see more examples in our class zine! If you want to try this, I recorded myself explaining what to do here step by step.
Ref sheets are important artistic tools in furry. It helps other people draw your fursona(s) and OCs. We needed this for our week of Art Fight Battle Royale!
Could I combine the time and material constraints with ref sheet creation, something that requires precision and clarity? The answer is YES! And they WERE useful! It was pretty magical. The one thing I learned was, don't expect coloring to be done on a timer. Slowing down and staying late after class with some students just to color was lovely.
Two examples of diary comics from my compbook. Both taken from Lynda Barry, the X-Page was nightly homework for the first week, and the 4 panel silent comic was for the second week.
Well, I did them at night! You can do them any time! Try drawing full bodies. Also, try to draw difficult things, and things you normally wouldn't consider "important". Doing this will help you get the hang of 4 panel comics, the beats, the groove!
