you and megumi couldn’t do anything without each other, he was like your soulmate . platonically of course . there was nothing between you and him, there couldn’t be!

you had invited him over for a movie night like you did often

the sky slowly started to darken, you and megumi had been watching a movie you’d seen many many times before . you noticed how his eyes started to look heavy, like he was starting to fall sleep, “gumi? you still with me?” you giggled and gently shook his shoulder . he flinched and his eyes shot open, they relaxed a bit and he spoke, “yeah just a bit—“ he cut himself off with a yawn, “tired” you giggled once again, “you wanna sleep on my lap? you can rest your head there” he seemed shocked at your offer but he quickly accepted . he switched positions and laid his head on your lap, you leaned back and brushed his hair . you looked down at your best friend with love in your eyes . a little too much love . “I love you gumi” you whispered, “I love you too babe” he replied, the nickname made your eyes widen, did he just call you babe?

he soon fell asleep, he eyes shut and his breath steady

when he woke up it seemed to still be night, you were passed out still in the same position from before . he slowly got up, trying not to make noise, and then he left . no note and no warning . he felt like it was too much, he had fallen asleep on his best friends lap who he was in love with, he couldn’t deal with it so he just left . you woke up in the morning and he was gone, you frowned when you noticed his absence, you were almost mad at him

you were supposed to go out with him and his other friends that same day, but truthfully you didn’t feel like seeing him, you were in fact mad at him . usually if he left while you were asleep he would leave a note, what was different this time?

soon not wanting to see his that day turned into not wanted to see him for days and then it became weeks . he was worried, he wanted, no needed to know what was wrong, it couldn’t have been him leaving during the night, right? it wasn’t that big of a deal, but it was to you, and that should have been clear . it was a late night, another successful day of ignoring megumi, that was until you heard a knock on your front door

who would be at your door at this hour? you got up from your couch and swung the door open, not bothering to see who it was . fuck, it was him . he awkwardly stood there, second guessing his choice when you opened the door with a flat face and kept it when you saw him . “hey…” he was able to get out, “no I can’t do this” you began to shut the door before he stopped it with his foot . “no” he stuck his finger out at you

he let himself in and shut the door behind him, he sighed . he opened his mouth to speak and so did you, but before you could interrupt him he spoke up, “just listen” he insisted . you nodded your head, agreeing to stay quiet, “why are you ignoring me? I don’t think I did anything wrong” you chuckled sarcastically . “you left . we had a nice moment and you fucking left, no note, no text, nothing” you explained, trying not to cry, sure you might seem sensitive but maybe you are

“that shouldn’t matter to you, it wasn’t that big of a deal, god” he scoffed, he was trying to fight off the urge to apologise, to not hug and kiss you and tell you he knew he what he did was wrong . you felt a knot in your throat form, “fuck you” you spat with tears in your eyes, “god you are so sensitive” sensitive . a word that you’d been called to many times to count and yet every time someone insulted you with that crude word megumi made sure that you knew that you weren’t but that you were reasonable

“leave” you pointed to the door, his eyes widened, “no what I’m not gon—“ he was cut off by you . “leave!— please…” you shouted and your voice cracked as your eyes started watering

“fucking fine!” he was offended by your volume, he felt hurt by you, something that never happened . he opened the door and left, he didn’t know if your “friendship” was over but he sure hoped it wasn’t . he couldn’t stop thinking about you and how hurt you sounded, it killed his knowing that he caused it . he wanted to go back to your house and apologise, but he felt like he almost didn’t deserve you back .

you knew you were sensitive, you didn’t like to admit it but you knew it . megumi had in fact promised you that he would never insult you and vice versa, even during arguments you would never attempt to hurt each other . but it seemed megumi didn’t care about your promise

days went by and you were all he thought about, he couldn’t focus on anything because all he wanted to focus on was you . one boring night he got the urge to go back to you and make up

so he did . he made his way back to your front door and knocked

he saw you open the door with a smile on your face which soon dropped, “what do you want megumi” you sighed, “I’m sorry” he simply stated, his words surprised you, “oh—thank…you” he let out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding in . “can we talk?” he stepped towards you, you nodded and he slowly walked into your house

you led him to your room, the room were he had been so many times and had so many conversations about dumb things with you . he sat down on your bed and so did you, “listen I was upset because…it hurt when you just left, I thought we were having a moment—like a…you know” he looked at you confused . “a what?” fuck were you really gonna have to explain him what you meant? you decided not to and to just get it over with

“fuck it” you whispered which confused him even more, “I love you” you finally blurred it out, after years of thinking it and expressing it in the secluded pages of your diary you finally said it . megumi’s eyes widened, did he hear you right? before he could process anymore he said the first thought that came to mind, “…I love you too” you were almost shocked that he felt the same way, you’d felt like a fool for so long and turns out it was all for nothing

he scooted closer to you, his face inches away from yours, “can I—kiss you?” he cleared his throat, trying to make his question less awkward . “mhm” was all you could get out, you were too distracted by the fact he really did love you too

so when you felt his lips against yours it took you a moment to kiss back, which made megumi panic but all the feelings went away when you did and only one remained . love .
