i actually love the canon friendship/mentorship that Noir and Homelander have too and that's what I prefer to write them as!!

Noir and Homelander's relationship in and of itself is really interesting and I wish they went more into it in canon. I really loved that deleted season 4 scene where Homelander talks to Noir II like he's the original Noir and even gives him a hug and says "I've missed this." Adding a romantic aspect onto it (preferably when they're already established friends of many years) is intriguing to me because it adds another layer to their dynamic. They would trust each other deeper and depend on each other even more. Homelander would even become possessive of Noir as time went on. I also think it would've changed a lot in canon if they were together, which is interesting to me to think about.

My take on shipping is kinda hard for me to explain, it's more of that I just enjoy different AUs involving Noir. I ship noirlander the same way that I also ship noirtrain, noir², blacksuit, noirmilk, etc. I just really like putting Noir in situations, shipping or non-shipping lol

Established Relationship (slightly nsfw)

There was a few times that Homelander interrupted one of Noir's missions or patrols to try to “help” and Noir ended up having to cover up for him or change his mission plan completely, which led to Noir having to let him know that he can’t do that, Homelander was upset by this, but Noir knew exactly what to write on his notepad to calm him down as he always does

Noir loves to hold Homelander and pet his hair or rub his back, Homelander finds this so comforting and his touch actually feels genuine compared to other people

Homelander never forces Noir to take off his mask but he will ask him to do so or even just push it up halfway, Noir always does it even if he doesn't want to

Occasionally, after bad days, the two of them will lay together, facing each other, just staring at each other's faces, sometimes Homelander will take a glove off and lay it on the scarred side of Noir's face, he never asks how he got the scars

Noir usually doesn't get more than 4-5 hours of sleep so if he's sleeping in the same bed as Homelander, he'll often just stare at Homelander until he wakes up because he likes to see him so relaxed while he's asleep

Homelander still feels himself drawn to Madelyn Stillwell at times (especially if she comes to him first) because he still wants her maternal comfort, but he often goes to Noir instead of her because Noir never has ulterior motives and never bothers him about something to do with their jobs

They both get jealous and possessive, Homelander a lot more so than Noir

Homelander still sleeps with women, though not often, and he still gets into a relationship with Maeve that starts off fake but turns real, Homelander doesn't consider this cheating on Noir (nor Maeve) though he doesn't really think about it

Noir doesn't allow himself to worry about Homelander sleeping with other people so he thinks he doesn't care about it, even though deep down he does, Noir does get jealous if any of this interferes with his time with Homelander though

Homelander likes when Noir gets jealous and sometimes he tries to make him feel that way deliberately because it brings out a rougher side of him

Homelander himself gets upset when Noir is too busy with work to spend time with him, and he gets very jealous if he overhears someone flirting with Noir (and especially so if Noir responds at all to that person, though Noir would never act on it) which always leads to Homelander being overly bratty or grumpy towards Noir

As far as Homelander is aware for the majority of their relationship, no one knows about them, but Noir is confident that there's a few people that know about them

Noir knows for sure that Madelyn knows, she’s always disliked him but he can tell it’s grown into almost a hatred since their relationship started, she’s made a few comments about how often him and Homelander spend time together, Noir even overheard her trying to ask Homelander about their relationship but he was too oblivious to know what she really meant

Noir is sure that Stan Edgar knows, though he hasn't said anything about it, purely because of the camera on Noir's suit, Noir almost always has on his suit even when he’s with Homelander so Mr. Edgar could've tapped into the feed at any point and saw them together, so it’s a pretty fair assumption that he knows

Noir is also pretty confident that Maeve figured it out by the end of her and Homelander's relationship, Maeve is a smart woman and she must’ve noticed how often Homelander would go and hang out with Noir for hours on end if not for entire nights, also Noir would notice the way Maeve would look at him during boring team meetings or if they were alone together, but she's also never said anything

Pre and Early Relationship (slightly nsfw)

After their first meeting and their first mission together, Homelander develops an admiration for Noir and seeks out his approval, which Noir gives him through thumbs up and nods and an occasional hug or pat on the back/shoulder

After years of this, the admiration grows deeper into romantic feelings on Homelander's aide, but Homelander is involved with Madelyn Stillwell so he doesn't act on those feelings for a long time…besides, he doesn't think Noir will reciprocate them and he doesn't want to embarrass himself

Eventually, after many more years of pushing his crush down, Homelander (now in his early 30s) realizes that he does have a chance with Noir

Homelander calls Noir to his suite and sits with him on the couch, he tells Noir how valuable he is the team and how grateful he is to have him as a friend, Noir places a hand over his heart as his way of thanking him

Homelander puts his hand on Noir’s shoulder and trails it down his arm until it's resting on top of Noir’s own hand

To Homelander's surprise, Noir takes Homelander's hand in his, Homelander uses his x-ray vision to try to read Noir’s expression, to try to figure out what he's feeling, and he sees him staring down at their interlocked gloves before his eye goes up his body and lands on his lips

Homelander takes this as an invitation and he goes to shoot forward to kiss Noir, but Noir holds a hand out against his chest at the last second to stop him, much to Homelander's confusion

Noir pulls out his notepad and writes out the word “GENTLE” and Homelander doesn't want to be gentle because he's been thinking about this moment for years but he does reluctantly listen

Homelander carefully kisses Noir’s masked lips and he feels Noir place his hands on his waist

Homelander wants to do more and he starts trying to pull Noir onto his lap but then Noir stops him yet again and Homelander sits back in frustration because this is NOT how he thought this was gonna go, he thought they'd already be in bed by now

To Homelander's surprise again, Noir lifts him and places him onto his own lap and lays Homelander's head down on his shoulder, Homelander feels himself relaxing against Noir but he starts to complain anyways, but then Noir is making a shushing sound and starts petting his hair, that's all they do that night

Homelander does eventually get what he wants, though it goes differently than how he imagined it, he realizes he likes the way that Noir wants to do things and he does like the slower pace (Noir does indulge him sometimes anyways)

Noir had noticed Homelander's crush on him maybe a few months before they first kissed, he noticed the way Homelander would stare at him, he's figured out how to tell when Homelander is using his x-ray vision or not because he gets a certain look in his eyes and he realized that Homelander often used it on Noir even when he wasn't just looking at his face

Noir had initially thought Homelander's crush would go away in time but it very obviously wasn't, so after an intense discussion with Buster and his friends, Noir then began playing with him to almost test his limits, to see if Homelander was serious or not: when he noticed him staring, he would stare right back; when he was sure he was looking under his suit, he would look him up and down and/or lean back in his chair just to see Homelander try to hide his flustered face; Noir even hooked up with someone (which he hadn't done in a long time, probably even before Homelander became attracted to him) just to see if Homelander would made any comments about it the next day and he did, asking him if he had a good night last night with a tight smile on his face, obviously very jealous

Their love for each other is romantic, but it's not a classic type of romantic love, they'd never call each other their boyfriend or even partner (especially because of some things that happen later on), but Homelander still calls Noir his best friend and oftens calls him buddy or pal, and they tell each other they love each other but they did that even before they started this relationship

it does make sense for him to decide to stay with homelander initially because homelander IS his son, he DOES want his job back, and he genuinely has no where else to go. but the problem is that soldier boy was too laid back. his ptsd from the russian lab experiments are never brought up again. he literally exploded twice in s3 at the mere sound of russian music, but he's somehow fine with meeting putin and vought saying he was secretly allies with them or smth??
