so, I recently obtained this sweetheart, who was supposed to be my first 2005
the seller was very kind, lowered the price for me, included some stickers and a figurine as an apology for shipping a few days after Iβd paid
however, after inboxing him, I saw he was missing a screw in one of his feet, which was not disclosed to me. I was frustrated, but figured itβs replaceable.
however, after popping batteries inside, he doesnβt work. he was sold to me as fully functional. the seller had said they could include a video of him working upon request, but I didnβt ask for one because I trusted them, and honestly still do to some extent.
how likely is it that he was simple damaged in the mail, knowing 2005s can have pretty fragile and brittle plastic inside? even if thatβs the case, should I still ask for a refund? wild that be rude?
Iβm very non-confrontational and the thought of having to reach out makes me feel sick but Iβm also upset and he wasnβt very cheap for my budget, so I ask you guys, whatβs the correct move?
edit: I did find his foot screw at least; It must have been very loose and had fallen out when I unboxed him
I know you're worried about the plastic and it's understandable! But I've had to give 2005s a good pat on the back after shipping more than once just to help things move around again. Unless you hear plastic rattling around when you shake them try not to worry. But back to them not turning on, keep those batteries in and the furby turned on and give them some nice FIRM pats in the back. Like you'd give a large dog. If you hear some whirring but nothing else that's still a good start! Just keep going. If that does nothing it's outside what I know (I feel like I've patted the feet and back of the head too to try and get other parts moving too but it's been long enough I don't quite remember)
I found some old furbies I never posted, slapped some colors on it and good to go.
They're on the cute side, not the cursed one- except maybe the pink one.

I did a simple paint job on this elephant furby. This custom was a commission for one of my followers over on Instagram. They told me theyβd named her Kaleidoscope Sky which is such a beautiful name π₯Ί

favorite features:
VOLUME BUTTON !
interactive light show mode with optional background music / white noise / lofi beats
very soft and squishy, good for holding
16 different modes
does not require talking like the 2024 did
very holdable . cradle like baby or hold like stretchy cat
downsides:
not a big fan of the long hair on the tail and top of head
no touch sensors on the head, besides the mouth and heart gem
ears dont glow like the 2024 did

i think the canon long furby is great . it is very clearly still made for kids, but incorporates the oddbody as a nod to the community, like they did with the charm necklace on the 2024. it doesn't step on the toes of custom long furby makers, and actually uses the long body to make it a better toy for kids. design is bizzare but not creepy or unsettling
it has 4 lights on its body that change colors and have touch sensors, that are used for interacting with the furby in its default mode, or choosing other modes and playing games. i really like that it has buttons instead of having to talk to it to choose modes like the 2024
its head its on a hinge thing kind of? it has two positions, laying on its stomach with its head up, or laying on its back with its head down (like a "space otter"??) the rainbow fur is like the 2024 but softer, and the white fur is like the connect but slightly less soft. the body is just soft and squishy, with no poseable wire or spine. his ears are also softer plastic, and seem less prone to breaking compared to the connect and 2024. he seems designed so kids can sleep with it like a stuffed animal . of course as an adult i have not done this ......
volume control !!! half of my furbies have their speakers unplugged, and the other half are very muffled because i can't deal with loud noise. i don't have to decide whether to mute this guy or not, because he has volume options! at his quietest setting i have to hold him close to my face to hear him. this is one of the biggest reasons i bought him ..
i like how many play modes he has .. memory game, whack a mole type game, music modes where you can play its belly like a piano, "chill" settings like light show and breathing exercises.. also party games kids can play with their friends which i think is nice.
his mouth also moves! yay ! his feet do not move, his ears dont light up, and you can't pull his tail, but i think those are reasonable tradeoffs for the other features. I do still wish he had a touch sensor on his head though.
also interacts with the 2024 and the furblets, but has trouble interacting with my 2024 because of how much i muffled its speaker ..
overall i like him a lot . as an autistic child i would have loved this thing .. as an autistic adult i also still love this thing
