2016 FUN-A-DAY Boston has begun
Check out who is having fun so far!
Create something in the physical world everyday
Drawing, crafting, painting or sculpting - I plan to make something creative with my hands (off the computer) every day in January.
Lighting is my project that consists of representing the geometry influence on my work and all things in the universe. Inspired by the art of snowflakes, geometry and winter season, with a touch of color to our eyes give us a smile.
Photograph edges, where one place becomes another.
I will record video of myself trying to do a head stand and compile this progress or failure from the 1st to 31st. SOME BACKGROUND: Since Christmas, my existing intention for January 2016 is to build Strength. The symbol that represents this for me is being able to hold myself, my whole self, in the head stand position, something I have never been able to do. Yet, my perceived accomplishment of it is that it is a result of strengthening my core, my mind and also softening what has hardened. I would like to build physical and spiritual strength in light of wanting to be a better support for those I love. This fall and winter has already tested me in different ways and I would like to better practice putting my oxygen mask on first, so to speak.
I'll draw/letter/paint/design one fancy letter per day! Probably in alphabetical order. Probably in 6x6 squares. But we'll see where to fun takes me. (I'll post on Instagram @lettersfromrita)
Daily abstract watercolors that explore different geometric themes.
cassette recordings of people, places, whistlers, hopefully animals especially birds, machine sounds, toothbrushing and even sometimes probably music.
Mythical Beasts Eating Dessert
I will do a series of drawings of creatures from various mythologies enjoying tasty treats. The drawings will vary in complexity, depending on how much time I have each day.
I'd like to focus on taking a photo each day of a unique area in my house, something or some area that brings me joy. I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up this past year and it inspired me to totally renew the way I look at my home. I envision mostly macro shots but will likely throw in a few zoomed out as well. I'm hoping to have the end product be a pretty cool collage of our home.
Recording the landscapes of my dreams each day through collage, drawing, and painting.
A daily acrylic painting of a classic toy or game on a 3 x 3 x 1/2" MDF block
John Manson and Dan Madri
Every day we will write and record a song based lyrically on collected objects. We will photograph the objects to accompany the recording.
Watercolor Widening-A-Day
I'll paint a watercolor of increasing size each day!
A daily collage series using found or photographed images.
Exploring shibori dying techniques, I will be preparing a new piece of fabric every day that I will dye in one big batch at the end of Janaury. All of the fabric pieces will later be compiled into a quilt.
I've been gifted a 3D Doodler Pen. I want to do a series of studies to learn what the pen can do, and how it can blur the 2D and 3D worlds.....
All My Grandmother's Thread
I inherited my grandmother's spool chest, filled with partially used spools of thread, in a spectrum of colors. During the month of January, I intend to make an embroidered work using the thread to fill in text reading 'All of my Grandmother's Thread', working each day to integrate a different spool. I plan to document the progress each day of both the emerging embroidery, as well as the emptying spools and spool chest.
gel pen illustrations fitting the mood of the day
An ink and watercolor celebration of the vegetables of winter. One edible a day.
Small collection of animal portraits.
Daily pen and ink cartoon drawings.
I will make a paper flower every day for January
Throughout the month of January, I will explore how fashion influences my artwork. I am interested to see how images, movies and fabrics will influence my color palettes, patterns and design decisions
sketch the plan of a different fabrication project each day
Drawing of a meal from each day, bound together in book form!
Create a lyric or verse to either turn into a song or drawing.
A daily painting inspired by the day's most interesting activity with another or others.
My project is to write and record one 30 second to 1 minute song every day.
Violin miniatures (music composition)
The idea is to create a miniature composition each day for solo violin, relating to a particular musical texture. I'll start with improvisation, and develop each one into a short (1-min or less) composed piece.
drawings (using various materials) of the view from our porch each day
Textile Sample Book of my Real and Imaginary Friends
I am going to make a mixed media portrait a day on a page in a fabric sample booklet of real and imaginary friends.
Drawings and little paintings! A series of epic showdowns! Some metaphysical! Some allegorical! Some pertaining to the very real struggles of a 14 pound house cat!l! Fur will fly! Inspired by illustrators like Scott C (Great Showdowns) and Bryan Lee O'Malley (Seconds and Scott Pilgrim).
Thirty-one study drawings inspired by the scientists, research and ecology of the Harvard Forest in Petersham, MA.
Each day from December 19, 2015 to December 19, 2016, my mother and I will be sending each other a page a day.
Illustrating a Babson Boulder each day.
