MonsterPiece Theatre Episode #1
RC Weslowski originally recorded "Ev Ree Bawdy Haz a Sownd" for his 2001 spoken word album The Sound of One Hand Napping. In the liner notes of that album, RC writes "...the first piece i put together for this project. it made me realize and accept i have something beautiful to offer the world and everyone who has ever taught me otherwise can go fuck themselves. in a nice way. it made me cry."
In this 2012 performance, RC improvises a sound poetry intro to the poem around the word 'yoga'. JC Peters should get some credit here. She is the local poet / yoga teacher who convinced many Vancouver poets to come to her Creative Flow sessions where writing, Om-ing, and downward-dogging were all part of one class.Β
RC's work is influenced by dadaism, surrealism, sound poetry, and clowning. He has also been on seven Van Slam poetry slam teams, a Vancouver record. His success at the slam directly questions the idea of slam poetry as a formula or limited poetic genre.
RC Weslowski coined the term 'Spoken Weird' to describe what he and other 'weird' poets in the slam movement were creating on stage.
