These pretty little girls are Stuti and Aradhna. They were born on 2nd May, 2011, to a poor farmer (Hari Ram Yadav) and his wife (Maya Yadav), in a village in the Betul district of India. The twin girls had fused livers and although they each had their own heart, the hearts shared a common pericardium.

Unfortunately, it is quite common in rural communities that girl babies are considered of no value, while the disabled are often abandoned. In the case of these conjoined twins, their parents had abandoned them at the hospital in which they were born. The hospital staff took it upon themselves to care for the little girls and eventually perform the delicate surgery which could give them a better life.

The staff at Paddar Hospital appealed for public donations as well as government and international aid. Their hospital was not staffed or equipped to perform this intricate operation and it took months to raise funds and prepare for it. But in a country with a government which is considered to be corrupt in many ways and with families that often disregard their girl babies (sorry to be so blunt about both) a £22,000 fund was raised, with the Madhya Pradesh state government matching public donations. (There is hope for good!)

The team of 34 medical specialists comprised of doctors from all over India as well as abroad. Together they spent 12 hours separating the beautiful baby girls and giving them each a new life. :) This was six days ago.

Today, both girls have been taken off life support and are progressing rapidly down their road to recovery.

To everyone who offered donations and prayers for these little girls, to the doctors that offered their time and services, I hope you’ll know that it is only because of your generosity and goodwill that they are blessed with the chance at a better life. :) Now doesn’t that feel good!
