Chapter 15

“Do you want one?” Steve asked taking a beer out of the fridge. The fridge door was still opened and he showed you the bottle in his hand. He smiled at you, lifting his eyebrows and wiggling the bottle a little.

A/N: I know it’s been a while but here’s a third part that I’ve written here and there these past few weeks. It’s been helpful to take a few moments to be creative and not think about anything else. I hope you love it as much as the other parts. 

Part 3

The door car door slammed shut and the truck moved forward, putting distance between them and the mission with each passing minute. The groan of the engine and the crackling of tires against the pavement a soft background noise to the supersoldiers. The exhaustion was tangible in the air as they settled into their seats, the last drops of adrenaline coursing through their blood, pushing them forward until their next destination. 

“Tony will be happy to know it went well” Steve sighed as he passed a trembling hand through his long hair. 

“Mhmm” Bucky hummed lowly as his fingers loosened around the weapon in his lap. Steve heard the small sigh of relief escaped from Bucky and he smiled, knowing they could finally let go of the stress they’d been living with for the past month. 

“You seemed a little distracted today…” Steve allowed himself to voice his observation. He’d noticed Bucky hadn’t been himself throughout the mission, almost distracted which had surprised Steve tremendously. Bucky was reliable and devoted when it came to work.

Steve looked over to Bucky who continued to look outside the window despite Steve’s comment. Again his thoughts seemed elsewhere as he gazed off into nothing. Steve gnawed at the inside of his cheek as he watched Bucky shake his head lightly, as though it would pull him out of whatever stupor he was in. Something occurred to him and Steve couldn’t help the small smile pulling at his lips. 

“What are you thinking about?” 

Summary: Living with your abilities has proven difficult and resulted in you being closed off to the world and the people living in it. But when Tony Stark finds you a month after you’ve finally gotten your freedom back, a certain dark haired boy breaks down your walls and compells you to open up and feel things you haven’t in a very long time.

Part 2

You could hear the crickets singing as you sat in the grass, letting your hands thread through the greenery beneath you. It was time to wait for the cue and it could take hours or minutes. You leaned back on your hands, feeling the energy of the earth between your fingers. Your senses were sharp, your ears listening to every sound produced in the large forest. Bucky was leaning against the tree, scanning the environment as you took the moment to relax.

You were geared up, thick legging style pants with loops and pockets holding vast weaponry. Your belt was equipped with handguns and more knives. You felt safe as you let your fingers tap over the weapons, counting them in your head one after the other. The thick long sleeve top you wore protected you from the chilly breeze floating around the trees. Your cheeks were surely pink from the cold but you couldn’t care less, enjoying the moment you were given.

Bucky was all sharp lines and tensed muscles as he took in his environment. You could almost hear his thoughts playing out all the scenarios in his head, all the exit strategies he was coming up with. His hair was pulled at the back of his head, a few loose tendrils framing his face. He blew them away impatiently and you smiled. You couldn’t help but stare a moment longer, his steel blue eyes glancing down at you. Quickly you looked down, your teeth nipping at your bottom lip as you felt a flutter inside your chest.

this sort of reminds me of the scene in Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban when Harry was “packed” by the Whomping Willow.

“At first I could only… I guess manipulate the earth? Make flowers grow for example” you tried to explain.

Seriously though, I slept on these two last parts and read them back to back. This relationship was built so beautifully and sweetly, with so much subtlety, I have difficulty expressing how much I admire the tone here.

The twist there in the ending, was the twist of the knife that was lodged in my heart. It hurt! 😭

I truly hope there will be another part. To mend my poor heart. If there is, will you tag me, please?

“What are you thinking about?” 

“W-what?” Bucky asked unsure. Your voice had been so low, almost sleepy as you both sat on opposite ends of the couch, watching cartoons late at night. You hadn’t said a word to each other since Wanda had left for bed. Every so often Bucky would hear you laugh or snort to yourself, the sound making the smallest of smiles appear on his lips.

“What are you thinking about?” you asked again, your head tilting to the side lazily. 

“I was just thinking about how silly the rabbit is” his eyebrows furrowed lightly in the middle as he lied about what he was thinking about. The question had caught him completely off guard and it had unsettled him slightly knowing you wanted to know what he was thinking about. Was it a serious question? Or were you just trying to make conversation? 

“I’m thinking it’s bedtime” you yawned as you got up from your spot on the couch. Your arms swung high above your head as you stretched your back, another yawn escaping your lips. 

“Night” Bucky called after you as you walked away. You looked over your shoulder, flashing him a soft smile and a wave before turning the corner.
