James blinked for a moment as Alexandria took his hand and began to speak. He could barely react as she expressed that she returned his affections. He felt positively shocked. Is this real? Is this all real? The question spun through his mind.
But as soon as she kissed him there was no doubt that it was.Â
âIâve loved you for so long, I never imagined that you could somehow return my feelings. Me, a clumsy, untalented boy trying to be a man, and you, this beautiful, shining, lady.â He kissed her, this time, somehow trying to show her all the love he had for her in a single moment. âI love you more than I can even put words to.â
He held her closely, as if letting go meant she would disappear. One arm wrapped around her waist and the other hand cradled her head.
Alexandriaâs arms were around him too, holding on almost as if for dear life, as if she were afraid that someone might snatch him away from her. And, despite how frightened she was, despite how she knew that news of this would reach Erik eventually, she smiled, she even let out a joyous laugh.
âI love you!â she cried, pressing kisses to his cheeks. âI love you, I love you, I love you!â One hand curled up in his hair as she brought her lips to his again, kissing him deeply. âOh, James, Iâm sorry that Iâve been so distant, Iâm sorry about Erik, Iâm sorry that I let whatâs happening with him go so farâŚâ Not that sheâd known it would, of course, she hadnât known sheâd been being manipulated by a man, rather than guided by an Angel.
Almost as if on queue, a quiet, painful moan of despair could be heard from across the roof. Alexandriaâs head whipped round instantly, she knew who that was. But she couldnât see Erik, perhaps it was just the windâŚÂ âWe should go⌠Away from the Opera House, I have to be back tonight, but the day is ours.â
