You're a young wizard in a fantasy world, secluded in your wizard tower in the middle of the woods. One day you hear a knock at your door, only to find one of the smallest goblins you've ever seen, not even knee high. She introduces herself as Pini, and says that she's seen you around and noticed your affinity for growing and shrinking different objects and asks if you can make her taller. She then explains that in Goblin culture, how big and strong you are determines your standing in the social hierarchy, and unfortunately for her she's smaller than even most of the goblin children. While at first you want to shoo her away and tell her those spells only work for an hour at most, you can't deny that making a permanent version of that spell is exactly what you're researching right now. And luckily for this goblin, you need a live test subject.
Research continues as normal, except now you have a one and a half foot tall goblin poking around. You were shocked by how eager she was to help. You assumed she would just be a freeloader, but she tries her best to water the plants or fetch whatever materials you need at any given moment. Her presence was starting to become a really nice change of pace, her clumsy yet energetic antics broke up the monotonous day to day research, and her amazement at your magic always seemed to put a smile on your face. Maybe soon you'd take the time to teach her a cantrip or two.
It took a few months, but you finally made your first breakthrough! It took all your energy, and Pini had to drink a complicated elixir while the moon was just right, but she grew an entire two inches! And now that you've made your first breakthrough it was time for the real testing to begin. You took every chance you could to test out every theory you had, any material components, any chant, any ritual, all with various degrees of success. But despite your habit of becoming obsessed and not taking care of yourself at this stage of the research, Pini was having absolutely none of it. She always took the time to make you eat properly or force you to go out for a walk, her assertiveness increasing with every inch she grew, even started calling you "Sparkles".
A few weeks later Pini bursts into your bedroom first thing in the morning, beaming with excitement. "Sparkles! Stand up! Stand up! Pini is having to show you something!" You groggily get up, expecting her to show you her latest spell, perhaps some simple illumination or perhaps Goodberry if she's feeling adventurous. But she just stands there, waiting for you to notice something. She gets more and more impatient as you try to tell if she trimmed her hair or if it was just the lighting, before she exclaims "Pini is bigger than Sparkles!" And sure enough, she's a few inches taller than you (and much bigger overall thanks to the proportions of goblins versus humans). You tell her that you're happy for her, before she manages to pick you up and spin you around as she hugs you tightly. “Pini is so happy! Thank Sparkles!” she says with glee.
Ever since that day Pini started acting a bit strange. You can always feel her staring at you or sitting unusually close when you two ate. You brush it off as her being excited for the next round of testing, but every day you notice her getting closer. It was when she passed the 8 foot mark where Pini started showing her more dominant side. It starts small, where she just demands that you hold hands during walks through the woods for “safety”. Then one day you wake up to find yourself completely constricted! You panic for a moment, only to realize that Pini crawled into your bed and was now holding you as close as she could. Wait, this is her bed! How the fu-?!
