This family, what a truly joyful and loving group of people. They welcomed me into their circle and made me feel so at ease the moment we said hello! It can be nerve wracking, coming into a group this size and “directing” them or “taking charge” for lack of better words. It’s not my typical role. I’m more of a sidelines gal, capturing moments as they unfold in front of me. That doesn’t really happen when working with a group of adults, it’s on me to get them interacting and promoting for those candid interactions. I’m getting better at it and can only say Thank you to this beautiful family for allowing me to grow and expand because of who they are and what they allowed me to see. A beautiful, early February morning, these two made vows to one another, deep inside the Mayan jungle, to love, protect, and honour each other for the rest of their lives. A ceremony that reached deep inside the souls and brought on a tidal wave of emotion for everyone involved (just ask my husband, I had to use his shirt as a tissue when my eyes filled with tears). It felt like pure magic to be a part of this sacred ceremony!! Tan + James have found forever in each other! It’s been one of those weeks, glued to my computer, culling + editing my days away! I love this aspect of my job, really I do, but in this environment I tend to get way more sidetracked then I ever used to. I think it comes down to the fact that there’s so many other things I want to do at the same time, like cool off in the pool, or go down to the ocean for a dip. In Canada, especially around this time of year, I was super content to sit and edit and never felt there’s something else I’d rather be doing. I’ve come to realize that when we shift the environment in which we work in, we also shift our outlook and attention span. It certainly takes me longer to edit here as I give in to the “other things” but it allows for so much more balance too, and in turn, a beautiful, non-rushed, oversized gallery for my lovely clients. My passion for photographing babies and young children stems from their vulnerability. They simply are who they are and have zero trouble expressing it. Their personalities and the way they embrace those around them, it’s all so authentic and raw. I need more children in front of my lens…where’s all the babies and toddlers at in Playa de Carmen? January is coming to an end 😳 can you believe we’re already one month into 2023….I can’t! As usual, I tend to take the month of January off to re-coup and fully fill my cup with creativity. It’s a time for me to daydream, muster up some new ideas, and get the itch back, as the end of the year tends to be really creatively draining for me. Am I the only one that experiences this? I sure hope not!! I’m super excited for February, a few sessions are already scheduled including two very special events that I’m super excited (and a little nervous) to capture.
