The Bradley Creek wildfire started on July 31 and since last Saturday the wind has picked up the fires, spreading it even more aggressively.

So far, according to Chief Dan Wilson of the Okanagan Indian Band in British Columbia, 230 homes have been confirmed to be lost to the fire. Evacuation orders and a Do Not Consume Water Advisory have been issued.

The fire is still spreading, Chief Wilson fears that at least 30 band members and up to 200 non-band members have lost their homes. If you are affected by the fires, please register with Emergency Support Services here to access basic supports like accommodation, food, and clothing.

The First Nations’ Emergency Services Society (FNESS) of British Columbia helps train firefighters and emergency responders for First Nations communities across British Columbia. I've been working as a frontline social worker serving people experiencing homelessness and at-risk youth for seven years. During that time, I've never taken more than a week off work, even when I was hospitalized with Type 1 diabetes.

Right now, I'm struggling in ways that I haven't before. I'm struggling to accomplish work tasks, to empathize with my clients, and to show up every day to be a support. I am exhausted, experiencing severe burnout. My clients are vulnerable people, often other trans people, and I simply can't provide them the care they deserve while I'm in this state.

I've taken emergency mental health leave to address burnout, suicidal ideation, and substance use. My state's paid leave program is a wonderful resource, but payments can take time, as long as a month from today when I file. Until then, I'm worried about covering rent, groceries, and other basic expenses.

I don't want to return to full-service sex work to bridge that gap. It has been traumatic for me, and doing so again would mean putting myself back into situations I've worked hard to leave behind.

If you're able to help, your support will help me keep a roof over my head, buy groceries, and give me the time to recover without having to earn money in ways that are painful or dangerous for me.

ive been planning an escape route for like. a year now. and i need a ton of money to pull it off.

by a ton i mean like $1000 is doable and $3000 is comfortable so just shovel money at me for the next few months so that in august or so i can get this done and then i will have irl community and healthcare.

i have occasional gigs as a sensitivity reader and that plus solid support from a very small handful of close friends (who are impoverished themselves) is keeping me housed by some definition of that term but i really need to up my game so i'm not just sitting here aging and dying in severe isolation. ive basically been in solitary confinement for like three years it fucking sucks
