One of my favourite lines from Daughter from Hell because it’s another one of those ‘change one tiny word and it changes the entire meaning’ phrases. Like how falling to one knee means proposing but falling to your knees (plural) means begging.

Losing someone IN the crowd means losing sight of them in a busy environment, and I bet a ton of people take it to mean that. But losing someone TO something describes the cause of their death. Like ‘we lost grandma to cancer’. So Gracie saying you’ll lose me TO the crowd means the crowd will be her cause of death. Which I guess shouldn’t be surprising given that the first song we ever got from this album made reference to a psych hospital (a room full of doctors and an ink blot) after attempted violence. Now in the light of the closing song being Cold Goodbyes and looking back on ‘a note addressed to no one left for somebody to find’ and imagining what people might say after she’s gone, I certainly picture a certain scene that I’m not going to spell out but please tell me if you have a different interpretation. Made me think of Chely Wright again and her Borders bookstore interview.
