Belle knew there was an irony in being a sleeping car with narcolepsy. Most of the time she didn’t let it bother her, nor did she let her narcolepsy get in the way of her life. She’d found ways to manage it and was pretty much living her life to the fullest.

I think it's a little like F1 and a little like NASCAR and a little like figure skating all at once. There's a lot of crashes and that's part of the appeal (NASCAR), there's teams and sponsorships and long-running races (F1) and it's a partner sport that's extremely unbalanced (figure skating/ice dance).

In real life, there are hundreds of locomotives/power cars in the UK. And THOUSANDS of coaches/frieght wagons. In figure skating (stay with me here) the ratio of boys to girls is around 1:4 at its absolute best, and varies drastically by region. My learn to skate class had 19 girls and one boy, for example. In the paired disciplines of the sport, ice dance and pairs skating, this introduces a bias in favour boys/men- they're like gold dust and are much more able to transfer partners or coaching staff than the women. I think stexverse would have a similar problem.

Additionally, in paired skating, changes have only recently been made to the strict gendering of the language in training materials and guidelines- e.g, until about 2020, pairs skating materials referred to "the lady" and "the man" when describing the scoring of lift elements (this is now the "lifted" and "lifting" partner or partner B and partner A depending on federation). I think partnered racing is a heavily divided sport in a similar way- it's quite likely in the society the show depicts that Lumber put his name and number down in a box labelled "Coach" to Blue Lightning's "Engine".

freight fam trying out curling together and eventually they get so good that they go to like nationals and world tournaments, BUT, they’ve never had any like media training so they kinda just say what they want in interviews. momma is like their manager and she keeps trying to tell them how to speak to reporters, but they just don’t listen.

so one day, they’re at a very big tournament where everything is on the line. it’s being broadcasted around the world. then… slick does something that the umpire didn’t like so they call a penalty (is it called that??) on her and she absolutely crashes out in the middle of the game (round? match? no idea) she like moves the other teams rocks (i think they’re called that) and starts yelling at everyone.

hydras kinda scared of her so they kind of just stand there. porter and lumber try to calm her down, but she pushes past them (punching lumber in the face and giving him a black eye in the process) and goes to momma to.. yell again.

eventually she gets escorted out and the game (match?) is cancelled. later, a bunch of reporters come up to her and momma tries to tell her not to say anything, but she starts insulting the umpire on live international tv.

the freight team gets cancelled online.
