i blame season two for my obsession with him. lemme know if you want more rafe content lol
Y/n Maybank was one minute younger than her brother JJ but for some reason he treated her like she was years younger than him. She hated that sometimes, she was seventeen for crying out loud she should be allowed to do what she wanted!
He was always telling her to not come to parties or smoke when the others did, he was such a hypocrite. And anyway she deserved to have a break every once in a while, she was constantly studying and trying to keep her grades high so she could actually have a future. God knows she had been dealt a shit hand in life coming from the family that she did.
She sometimes wondered how JJ would react to the fact that she was secretly screwing the king of the kooks. She wondered if heâd ever realised that all those trips to the library were actually spent sneaking into Rafe Cameronâs bedroom. Though, JJ was pretty oblivious most of the time so she knew that he probably never would. He saw Y/n as someone very innocent, but Rafe knew she was anything but.
Today she was working at the country club. She was a waitress there and had been working there all year after school. This summer she was saving up to buy herself a motorbike so she wouldnât have to constantly bum rides of other pogues. And anyway, she could always use a bit of extra cash, not to mention this looked great on college applications. Plus having a job kept her away from the house and her dad which she was grateful for.
Of course she expected to see Rafe today. He hung around like a fly at the country club. Always getting drunk with his buddies and playing golf. She knew theyâd have to pretend they were sworn enemies, business as usual. Because before he became her dirty little secret the two of them were constantly at each other's throats. It was a constant battle between him and her, the kook king and pogue princess.
She sauntered over to the table and Rafe raked his eyes over her little uniform. He thought she looked absolutely adorable in it. A black mini skirt that showed off her legs with an apron over the front, white polo tucked neatly into the skirt and a black headband to push the hair from her face. The polo showed a slight amount of her tummy, the top of a tattoo on her hip visible. Rafe knew it was that ridiculous P4L tattoo with a heart around it, heâd seen a million times. Touched it, kissed it. That tattoo was permanently engraved in his brain, the girl it belonged to never left his mind either.
She plastered on a fake smile not even looking at Rafe, she turned to the other boys clicking her pen. This annoyed him, he kept trying to meet her eye but she refused.
âWhat can I get yâall?â She said in a fake friendly voice. Her southern accent slightly coming out, Rafe loved that about her.
Topper glanced up from the menu. âCan I just get a steak sandwich and a coke?â
Y/n nodded scribbling that down. The other boys followed listing their meals which she wrote down, when she turned to Rafe she dropped the smile.
âYou?â She asked impatiently, tapping her pen against the pad.
Rafe couldnât tell if this was just her playing the part or if she was actually still mad at him. It was hard to tell most of the time.
âWhat's the special for today?â
Y/n looked boredly at him. âFresh prawns, caught by the Heywards this morning.â
âIâll get that then.â He said not taking his eyes off her as he took a sip from his beer.
She wrote it down, again moving her gaze across to the others. âAlright, it shouldn't be too long. Holler if yâall need anything else.â
After a few more hours her shift was done but she stayed late to pack up for a little extra. No one was left except a few stragglers. Some were guests of the hotel across the road.
She wandered down the strips of tables, wiping them down. Her day had been pretty shitty. Last night since she and Rafe had a fight she had to go home and ended having a run in with her dad. She had managed to hide the bruise under some concealer on her face but now that the shift was over unbeknownst to her had become somewhat visible. All the sweat from the hot weather had melted it off. Honestly, she forgot she had it. And now she was slaving away to old rich people. Sucks balls.
She hadnât realised Rafe was still here, he was sitting in one of the booths sipping a whiskey. She walked over wiping the table grabbing the empty glass, he watched her. âWe are closed now Sir, best be off.â She said coldly.
He grabbed her wrist before she could leave. She felt the cold touch of his ring on her wrist. His grip was gentle on her. âY/n, whatâs wrong?â
Y/n glared at him, snatching her wrist away. âJesus, all that coke must be really giving you bad brain damage, Rafe.â
He frowned when he noticed the purple bruising under her left eye, he stood up and moved a hand to her cheek, his thumb gently running over the bruise. âY/n,â he said knowingly, âdid you go home last night?â
Y/n flinched her head away. âWell where the hell else am I supposed to go, Rafe? I canât constantly stay at John Bâs and Kieâs. And you kicked me out soâŚâ
He felt a surge of guilt pulse through him. Although they werenât dating, they hadnât discussed what they were, Rafe knew he loved her. He hadnât admitted it or said it out loud but he hoped Y/n could tell. He wasnât brave enough to say it just yet.
I mean heck, he was still shocked that she let him be anywhere near here.
âPlease just let me drive you somewhere.â He begged.
Y/n looked at him hesitantly. âBut Iâm mad at you.â
âI know you are. Thatâs why I need you to come with me.â
Y/n sighed. Itâs not exactly like she could go home. âFine. Meet me out front in five, I gotta finish closing.â
He nodded walking outside.
Once Y/n was done packing everything up she grabbed her tips from the tip jar putting them in her wallet.
She grabbed her bag from the back and signed out at the check in. She heard the low rumbling of his bike out the front and she locked the front doors. The last of the stragglers at left.
He sat calmly on the bike extending the only helmet he had out to her. She grabbed it, clipping it on. He noticed a chill in the air, Y/n was without a jacket as she hadnât expected to stay this late. He began to pull off the blazer from his broad shoulders extending it to her.
She wordlessly slid it on, the large piece of clothing swallowing her figure. She hopped on the back, her arms wrapping around his waist. This definitely wasnât the first time she had sat on this thing. But she could remember the first time like it was yesterday.
He began revving it and was soon zooming down the dark roads. She pressed her cheek into his back, drained from her day. No matter how mad she was Rafe always seemed to get her to come back to him.
When they pulled up outside somewhere in the cut Y/n was confused. It was outside some mechanics shed. She didnât even know if it would be open at this hour. Rafe slid off the bike walking over to the door, his hair all disheveled now from the drive, he banged on the door.
Someone opened it, an old man. âHey man, she here?â
Y/n frowned. Who? She was definitely the jealous type. Especially when it came to Rafe, she knew some rich girl could easily steal him away from her. And truthfully she was scared of that.
âYeah come on in and check her out.â Said the man.
Y/nâs curiosity got the best of her. She yanked the helmet off and jogged to catch up with Rafeâs long legs.
Standing before them was a beautiful brand new motorbike, it was even better than Rafeâs and he had, like, the best model.
âGetting the engine shipped in tomorrow. Was gonna phone you Mr. Cameron.â Said the man.
Y/n gasped. âSheâs gorgeous.â Her fingertips running over the red paint. God she was jealous, she knew Rafe was probably just trading his in for a new one. He had enough money to do that kinda thing. She knew it would take her a million tip jars and more to even afford that piece of scrap in the corner.
âYou like it?â Asked Rafe nervously.
Y/n nodded. âYou did a real good job building it, Sir,â She smiled at the man.
Rafe couldnât help but fall for her more. She was just so lovely.
âYou're the girlfriend then?â Said the man.
Y/n didnât know how to respond. So Rafe gave a nod.
âWell I hope you like it.â
Y/n furrowed her brows turning to Rafe.
Rafe nervously twiddled his thumbs, âI was gonna keep it a surprise until it was all finished. But itâs yours. Tomorrow come by and itâs all yours. I signed all the paperwork under your name.â
Y/n was in shock. âAre you serious?â
Rafe nodded. âAs a heart attack.â
âYou got this for me?â She said in disbelief.
He nodded. âI know you were saving for one and now you can quit that shitty job.â
She could cry and Rafe scanned her expression, noticing the smile glint in her eyes. She ran over to him pulling him into a hug.
He was shocked. They normally didnât hug unless it was after sex.
âThank you.â She cried.
He patted her head, smoothing some of her hair. âDonât thank me. Iâm an asshole, it's the least I can do.â
When they left Y/n was silent until she just said what was on her mind, âYou know you canât just buy me a motorbike and think Iâll go back to being your little booty call.â
He nodded. âI know. I just wanted to do that for you. Youâve done a lot for me this summer.â
Y/n scoffed. âLike what? Wait your table? I haven't given you anything.â She had no money too. The only thing she had given him was herself.
âYou showed me Iâm worthy enough to be someoneâs friend at least.â
She frowned. He was such an insecure guy it took her by surprise.
Y/n looked up at him. âFriend? I donât think we are friends exactlyâŚâ
Rafe bowed his head in shame. âIâm sorry about what I said to Kelce and Topper. I know I shouldnât have said something like that, not now that I know you. I should have never said it no matter what. It was a dick move.â
She leaned on the wall. âWell calling me âa disgusting pogue' wasnât exactly what I was hoping to hear come out of your mouth when they asked what you thought of me.â She shrugged, âbut I shouldnât have shouted at you, you just didnât want to blow our cover I get it. I know you wanted to keep it lowkey.â
âYou want to know what I actually wanted to say?â
Y/n looked up. âHmm?â
âThat I love her and sheâs the best person Iâve ever met.â He finally felt a bit brave.
Y/nâs head shot up from staring at her patent work shoes.
He stepped forward. âI want to be your boyfriend and I love you.â
Y/n looked at him. âIn secret?â
âNo. I want everyone on this goddamn island to know I belong to you.â
Y/n smiled a small smile, afraid this was all some big joke he was playing. âReally?â
âCan I go kill your dad now?â
Y/n laughed. âI love you too.â
Rafe smiled like a kid on Christmas. Pulling a ring off his finger. The gold one. âWill you wear it? I want everyone to see.â
Y/n nodded sliding onto her thumb which is the only one that would fit the big ring.
âWant to sleepover tonight?â
Y/n nodded and they zoomed off into the night. Maybe he wasnât as much of an asshole as he let off.
One problem left to face. Her brother. Well, shit.
