#i say this but i do have my complaints about tvl. though because they did hit budgetary contraints they really could have jettisoned the #aftershow for like more of 1790s paris #also like. the disc horse that's been loosed in the fandom because of the aftershow is. well. it's something that i'm treating like a shark #anyway!

i know that a segment of this fandom is media illiterate, but the way that even if they didn't read TVL and see lestat's monologue about modern life in 3x01 as a deeply sarcastic inversion of his rhapsody about the then cleanliness and safety of modern life, like it's still pointedly sarcastic about it ("making a good country great again... again") and he moved from *new orleans* to *montreal*. like. i don't think he needs to say he's the exact same type of progressive as like mamdani or sanders or whoever for people to get that he's actually kinda mad about the rot and decay in american public life in the spring of 2025.

#he even called marie antoinette 'deficit'!#this is the wokest lestat's been since like 1992

i may need to double check some things but it's wild to take a peek at what the fandom is talking about and see them talking about how hannah moscovitch should never, ever write everyone's favorite obnoxious child vampire with a podcast benji mahmoud "because he's palestinian". like. truly have your objections to the writing she's done, but can we get a grip?

while i have Thoughts about how the show's adapted the novel so far (which does revolve around the lack of 1790s flashbacks, nicki crumbs, and armand crumbs), i did think that the finale was some fantastic television

though having said that:

it's disappointing to me that it appears that in trying to get armand some closure and emotional understanding that louis and armand's relationship is being simplified into a 77 year mutual manipulation. when like. it's so much messier and more complicated than that but for some reason we can't let them have sex on screen, so the messiness is easier to obfuscate.

i know part of it is how the show has shifted the dynamics of the lestat/gabrielle relationship in forming gabriella but it's insane to watch the fandom go from "woo! transmasc/nb deadbeat parent of all time!" to "we need to rend her limb from limb" over the course of the last six-ish weeks or so.

also while i really wish they didn't make jennifer ehle do that heavy italian accent (it's Not Great, Bob.gif), i like that the gothic horror show has decided to keep a source of it by the keeping the incest & having that be part of lestat's insane jealousy regarding louis and claudia's parent-child bond. which like in a season of television where they're being very obvious about Themes And Stuff, it's nice that they aren't slapping us in the face with that element of it.

also it's wild to have some viewers complaining about the shift away from showing gay sex and physical intimacy *now* when that started in s2 as a response to the rightward cultural shift (and likely network meddling). like, by rights i should have watched at least one episode with a louis/armand date where they fucked and drained random men in paris they seduced for a threesome like they TALKED about. but anyway...
