My focus for this piece is about the parts of ourself we need to peel off, the shedding process, and letting go that which does not serve us.

Embracing change today, I have decided to drop SwampFox Studio and embrace Frances Moeller as my art name. Artists tend to enjoy reinventing themselves, however I see this as fully embracing myself. Being a multidisciplinary artist I find my real name allows for more wiggle room to fully explore all my ideas. The Latin meaning of Frances means “Free One” after all! At the end of the day, I want to be known for my creations rather than an arbitrary name. “Mind Heart Connection” This piece for me is about how our thoughts/emotions/feelings/voices in our mind effect our heart/soul. I was inspired by Frida Kahlo in how she always puts her life story in her art, no matter how painful and raw. After completing this piece I feel this is a direction I need to go into more. Art for me isn’t just about creating something. Its about the ideas behind the art, the “why create it”. Art can be a line of hope that reaches out to connect to someone else who is also going through a similar experience. It is my hope by being genuine, real, and raw that others will have the courage to do the same in their own life. By being our authentic selves, we then have the capacity to have authentic connections and relationships. What facade do you have that isn’t allowing you to be your full authentic self? It’s time to cut the bullshit and embrace yourself for all that you are and for all the wonderful talents you have! My three year old daughter helped capture the images that I’m in, she has a good eye! I’ve noticed when I paint these drums, my mind always has ideas beforehand of how they should turn out. Then when I sit down with the drum to actually paint, a whole new image emerges and that’s what I end up painting. Every drum I’ve painted I’ve done without sketching and all pre-planned thoughts seem to go out the window! Nkiruka, her name means “The best is yet to come” in Igbo, West African. I’ve been calling these pieces spirit sticks, because the under structure is a stick that inspires the whole piece. I make these using my intuition, whatever comes to mind on the spot during the making process (no pre-planning).
