Hi! I'm Fract (they/them), I'm a 22-y-o Bleach fan. I struggle getting stuff done in general so updates (on anything, really) may not be regular and if I go missing for months it's probably normal, I just have periods like that. That aside, I make art and write, although right now I'm working on a series and it's taking ages so don't expect chapters for that to come out any time soon. I may occasionally post shorter pieces of writing though, or discuss my worldbuilding and stuff like that. I reblog whatever I like, but have a couple of tags that have my name in them, so you can follow just those instead of following my blog if they interest you.

Iāve been thinking a lot about this tag lately, which encompasses so much context in three little words.
Youāre exactly right @magicmumu2. Iāve been fascinated in the way that desirable femininity has been portrayed in old Hollywood and how it was systemically withheld from fat black women. Despite emancipation being several decades before the 1930s, women that looked like me were erased of everything except our servitude. The closest it gets would be Lena Horne or Mae West but theyāre both only checking half the box and in the lightest way (litcherally), at that. 80-90 years ago, I would only get to depict a maid, if the film wanted financial backing and wider distribution, at least. On occasion today, fat black women are portrayed as classic, glamorous beauties.
Needless to say, Iāve taken my image into my own hands. No mammies here.
One of the biggest issues of moving to England as a person who is Ukrainian AND neurodivergent is not knowing how to answer the small talk question of "how are you", but today I was reminded that Ukrainian blessed me with the phrase that roughly translates as "living is hard but dying would be a pity" and can we please naturalise it so I can use it all day every day
Okay so this post breached containment I think so I feel the need to clarify, because the vibes in the notes seem to suggest that people see this as an inspirational quote bestowed onto someone to help them soldier on. That's not how Ukrainians do it. Rather, imagine a person that looks like they haven't slept in three days and also hiked up a mountain. They are asked "Hey how you doing buddy", and in response they let out the deepest, most done with this shit sigh you can imagine, mutter their favourite curse word and THEN they say the phrase (which, by the way, is four words in Ukrainian - ŃŃŠ¶ŠŗŠ¾ Š¶ŠøŃŠø, ŃŠŗŠ¾Š“Š° Š²Š¼ŠµŃŃŠø/tyazhko zhyty, shkoda vmerty). It's said as if they're trying to convince themselves that dying would, indeed, he a pity. The other person looks at them, their eyes full of understanding, sighs also and then says "well at least we're not russians".

I did some investigating since comments on this post are saying āItās real, itās just the wrong imageā.
So far I have found two sources, here and here. Do you notice anything in common about these two? Both of these only have one citation, which is the twitter/x account @/TheAncientWorld. I donāt have an account on X, so if anyone wants to do further digging for me it would be appreciated, but it appears that the original post has been deleted.
The first source I found, from thewhippet.org, acknowledges that the image shown in the post is actually a map of irrigation systems. They provide this image instead, along with the translation (I canāt personally verify whether the translation is accurate):
I have zero idea where these images are sourced from, besides the @/TheAncientWorld twitter account. Reverse image searching both of these yielded no results that I know of. Then again, I didnāt feel like paying any service to have access to ādeepā searches, so if anyone has more reliable ways of finding image sources I would gladly accept the help.
All in all, I canāt really say for certain if I think itās real, but itās not looking great. And, if Iām being honest, Iām mostly doing this not because Iām personally invested in knowing if itās actually real, but because itās annoying and stupid that people in the notes are saying itās real because one singular person provided one of the sources I listed above.
So really this is all to give people a reminder: an article, newsletter, blog, etc. is not automatically a reliable source on account of existing. Sources need sources.
