Both Edric Storm and Patchface are walking reminders of some seriously tragic/humiliating moments in Stannis’ life: Robert concieved Edric Storm in Stannis’ marital bed, on Stannis’ wedding night (which is a huge insult in Westeros) and Patchface is a constant reminder of the even which most shaped his childhood aka his parents’ death - but Stannis still allows both of them to stay on Dragonstone, because Shireen is fond of them.
