Various Pitcher Stages on Flickr.
Via Flickr: I thought it would be interesting to show different Nepenthes pitchers in various stages of early and late growth. Starting with the earliest stages of pitcher growth at the tip of tendril, they then balloon in growth as the tendril continues to extend dropping with the forming pitcher. These will continue to grow but stay closed until the lid cracks and hinges open revealing an immature lid or peristome. After the leaf is fully developed it inevitably must die. Pictured in the back is a pitcher leaf that is at the end of its cycle. Interestingly, it will only turn brown/black down to a certain point on the pitcher and no further due to the structure/ fluid level inside. Pictured L to R: Both tendril and 1st developing pitcher on L are: N. spathulata X mira Both middle and dead pitcher are: N. lowii X campanulata R is: N. truncata [Pasian Highland].
N. ventricosa on Flickr.
Via Flickr: This was the first Nepenthes I purchased over a year ago. This ventricosa has been through a lot. When I thought this little one had bit the dust it comes back-several times now. Now that I have my setup down and producing consistent conditions, it's proving to be the fast grower that ventricosas are known for.
