      You’re not me.

Though he hadn’t expected an approving reaction, the words sting deeper than he would have initially thought. Reading the denial and fear and even anger on his mirror’s face is wounding, like a knife twisted into his back. Genji doesn’t even register the absurdity of the situation, doesn’t bother thinking about whether this is real or a dream or anything not reality.

The feeling of melancholy sours, twisting into something else, dark and conflicted. Behind his visor, brows pinch together; the only thing he can feel, not his fingers curling into fists.

       “ No? ” Were this so much as a year ago, he’s positive he would have reached out, balled the little sparrow’s shirt into his fists and pulled him close, unbearably close, but as it is, Genji stands statue-still, as if he were reflective first and foremost.

Predictable, in hindsight. Somehow, it doesn’t make it hurt any less.

   emotions are barren,   yet there is a crinkle of the brow,  &  the very much lack of acknowledgement.   it may have been years,   but that did not lessen the rawness contained in one word,   a rawness that will continue to be buried under many a mantra.   only when he continues do cold hues shift towards her peer,   an anomaly to her,   for yet their stories seemed similar,   the results were DIFFERENT.   to ponder upon it would reignite screams she’d long forgotten.  ‘  oui. let’s not waste time.  ’ 

     Similar, maybe, but different in one very key way: Her presence here was not a choice, initially, and his was. So contrary to what many think, Genji didn’t need implants ingrained into his brain, nor mental conditioning, brainwashing, torture--

            All he needed was the promise of revenge. Bloody and violent revenge.       There is no point in showing this world remorse if it will not show remorse to him.

His head inclines, giving the slightest nod before turning on his foot and leading the way to their ride. “ I am having my doubts that we will need to waste our energy drawing weaponry. ” It should be simple. In and out.
