Why I am not coming back to tumblr

Recently, tumblr realized that its step back into medieval “Facebook times” with strict censorship of all beautiful nudity was, if not a sad suicide attempt, then at least a dramatic case of idiotic self-harm. It therefore recently announced  that nudity was allowed again and “invited” artists to rescue tumblr from its agony with their work.

I actually considered returning to tumblr even though they had intentionally destroyed my years of work especially on my other two blogs (and the work of many other artists). Before doing so, however, I wanted my posts restored that tumblr had censored in the dark ages of its anti-nipple delirium.

I therefore appealed the perfectly innocuous photos first, about 10 posts. After just a few hours, I received notification for all of them that after “careful review” it was determined violating the community rules. They added “Don’t worry, this post hasn’t been deleted, it is just hidden from public view”. I don’t know if I should take that as ironic or as sarcastic.

Not a single one of these pictures is sexual in any way. I have deliberately appealed only those photos that have no sexual message whatsoever and that do not show any ambiguous or “inviting” poses, and certainly no intimate parts. Nevertheless…

Running a beautiful, meaningful blog that followers enjoy is a lot of work. Work that I was happy to take on when tumblr was still a free platform that also allowed non-orthodox artists to connect with people who enjoy their work. But I’m not willing to give my time and work to save a drifting platform that bullies its creatives with absurd rules and tries to re-educate them. I don’t want to post good humor with the risk that some diehard will censor that post.

For inane junk, there’s already Facebook and Instagram, where you can check out the latest hamburger menus before and after digesting by nipple-free plastic creatures. Tumblr isn’t necessary for this and in this respect at the moment no longer has a raison d'être for me.

Right now for artists who don’t want to abide by nudity-phobic rules, only Twitter remains.

There I post several uncensored pictures every day. My account is still relatively small, even though more than 2000 new followers have joined since August 2022.

So, that’s enough with that stupid hypocrisy of this network that once was a great place.

I published a photo that they considered adult although nipples and pussy were covered (you can see it on https://twitter.com/Marsfotografo - follow me there if you like).

They removed the post. Ok, I could live with that, one has to have a little bit of mercy with those poor employees.

But they also flagged my blog as adult, which means that I don’t show up in searches, nor in keywords, and, above all they removed my carefully elaborated blog design with my links to my website and my other offers.

With that they crossed the border.

Websites are a two way thing: if they want me to help them to be an attractive place with posting content, they have to give something back to me. They did until now: I could spread my work and my links thanks to them, and for this I was happy to add to their contents, which actually is what they live from. What is a network without creators? Right: nothing.

So from tomorrow on I will not even know that tumblr exists or ever has existed.

They only want my contribution, but are not willing to give something back. so they can stay alone with their computers. I am gone.

In my Patreon I explain in every detail and with a sample gallery my struggle in color management. It is in the level that is available for only 1$…

I know I am late, especially for a professional photographer. It even embarrasses me a little bit that it took so long until I finally was able to produce correct colors for different devices and websites. The only excuse is that I come from the analog space where I never had to worry about screens or printers and such things: I printed a photo and that was it…

So it took me quite some struggle to understand how color management works. I think, now I got it. And in my Patreon I’ll explain it in detail and show the effects of different editing/profiles in the gallery.

But you know exactly that this is not the only reason why it’s so very nice to be a member of my Patreon and to support my work and my lovely models: there are so many so beautiful photos there that you cannot see anywhere else.

Yesterday

I told the young girl to put her hand on the folding screen, and when she touched it, the screen ate her up and mixed with her!

I am full of jealousy because the folding screen dared to do what I can only dream of and I am very afraid of what will happen when I fold the screen! Also, I don’t know if I ever get her out of that screen again :-(

Closer and closer

As you can see on my https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer very detailed and from every angle, sometimes I just can’t get close enough to my wonderful, lovely, so very open-minded young models.

I am an artist and want to produce art, but I have a deep reluctance against those so-called insinuated nudes, you know those kitschy images where a towel “accidentally” covers nipples and other parts. I want to do art without limits, I want to portray sensuality and this, form my point of view, can include excitation and visibility of those parts that are so very taboo.

So I am dancing on a fine line between “purely artistic” and “just hot”. Sometimes I tilt over to one side, sometimes to the other.

When you talk to your plants,

foster them with love, give the necessary fertilizer, one day the bushes will bloom and you can enjoy the fruits of your efforts.

I am happy that my new thick photography book “Erotic Nude Art Photography 1” is quite successful. Only in May it has sold more than 150 times (101 in the USA), which is quite a lot for a 280 pages strong and thus quite expensive, self-published and mono-graphic photo book.

But a few days ago, amazon censored my book and removed it from it’s online shop. Without telling me, without giving any reason, of course. It simply disappeared.

It is another example of how big companies nowadays use their power to decide who can show and sell its work and who not. Their decisions are completely arbitrary, not comprehensible and not documented in any way. And, of course, there is no email address, no phone number, where you could find out what happened, even less, correct the removal.

Yes, my book shows what it’s title says: erotic nude art photography. Yes, it is uncensored. Yes, the models are natural amateur models, mostly with (OMG!) unshaven body and pubic hair, who show their sensual happiness with unquestionable joy.

Still, with all openness, I don’t consider it a “pr0n”-book. My models are real women, they do not fake excitement, they are authentic as is my style of photography, and, most important: they are not objects forced into something that doesn’t respect their personality, but individual subjects, free enough to enjoy also the erotic and sensual sides of life in front of my camera.

It’s a beautiful book and I have put a lot of love in it’s making.

It’s sad - especially for the classic bookseller’s shops - but it’s a fact that amazon has become the most important book seller and that arbitrarily removing a creation from its sales channels causes a huge damage to the authors.

The printed book and the digital download are uncensored.

As you know, one of the special things of my presence on Patreon is that I show quite large series from the photo sessions. Apart of showing the images with which I achieved the goal of the session, this gives you a broad impression of what is happening, how I try to reach “the good image” and how the model changes during a session.

But, if I remember correctly, it was famous photographer Ansel Adams who once said “Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop.”. I would like to subscribe to this phrase and add: if in a session one really good image arises, it was a successful session.

Of course, what I consider the best image of a session isn’t necessarily the image you like most and so, with the series I publish on Patreon, you can make your own choice.

But this new 280-page hardcover book shows my very personal choice. I have been going through the series I published in the first two years of my Patreon and carefully selected those photographs I personally like the most.

You can imagine that I am quite proud of this new book as it contains only images I really consider “good images”, images I’d hang on a wall, so to say. Although many of them are so explicit that this wall probably shouldn’t be visible for too many :-)

Official release date is February 15th, and then it will take a time, a month or two, until it will be available at amazon and the other retailers, but for those who would like to own a copy is the possibility to order it directly with me from my website (see link above).

On the back of the book I wrote: When my models give me the opportunity to make their zest for life visible and tangible in my images, to reveal their very personal, intimate sensuality, their joy in their own bodies, in their desire and a sexuality freed from taboos, moral concepts and social rules, then what I call “erotic nude art photography” can arise.

I believe that this - and my own joy in photographing my lovely, open-minded models - is what my new book shows.
