he grabs ahold of the no doubt expensive ass camera, essentially blogging on national television in an unfaltering angle zoomed right into his nostrils.

everyone’s jaws drop as the cameraman scrambles to catch the equipment bakugo tossed back like nothing.

“mr.dynamight, please elaborate! who is this y/n you speak of?!” they exclaim, mics quickly shoved into his face as the paparazzi lights began flashing for the latest hero gossip in town.

“hah?” he scoffs back, frowning like the answer is completely obvious—and like their the idiots for even asking such a thing. “my wife.”

“now dynamight, why do you feel the need to verbally escalate with your fans when they approach you in public?” the interviewer asks, seeming confused but she knew what she was doing. they always did, trying to get a rise out of him.

bakugo stiffens from beside you and it took every physical restraint in you to not reach out and grab his hand soothingly. it was instinct but you controlled it.

he shakes his head before answering. “why do these so-called fans always feel the need to crowd me with stupid phones and papers to autograph when i’m in the middle of saving people, huh?!”

he was all bark, and all bite.

kiri chuckles from behind his palm because everyone knew his demeanor. but he also couldn’t blame katsuki, people were always pushing his buttons waiting for him to explode for their amusement and reactions.

you clear your throat and the camera turns toward you again. “i think what my colleague means and he brings up a good point. is while we appreciate our fans and their support, there also must be a good boundary and balance from when we are working in the field.”

the interviewer claps at your clarification and so does the live studio audience but bakugo continues to scowl.

“oh, but ‘cause she says it all pretty-like, she gets the applause.” katsuki grumbled and you laugh at how his face contorts to a childish pout.

kirishima obnoxiously claps louder to piss his best friend off. “she is incredible, isn’t she? we love y/n.”

the crowd agrees by chanting your name and following it with cheers and applause, causing you to turn red at the praise and cover your cheeks. bakugo glared at kirishima but fans noticed how he does clap at the mention of you along with the crowd.

“speaking of y/n…” the interviewer discards her talking cards and leans in. “word on the street is you’ve got a beau who is a handsome model! can you add any comment to this rumor?”

the blatant lie in the rumor made you giggle but the crowd and interviewer mistook it for nervousness, meaning truth.

the crowd yells from different parts and you grew uneasy.

“i don’t really like to comment on my personal life.” you quickly say and try to dismiss the line of questioning but it only made your audience want more.

“i have sources saying they saw you both at a wedding together, getting quite comfortable.” the interviewer winks at the audience, “then retreat to the same hotel suite. can you give us an insight on the bedroom scene?”

the quick turn of the questions left you burning and before you or kiri could intervene, katsuki stands up and in the process, his chair falls back with a loud thud, capturing the studio in silence.

“how fuckin’ low can you be, askin’ her questions like that?” katsuki motions toward the host with a heated glare and pointed mannerisms.

they would definitely have to bleep things out in post.

“mr. dynamight…” the host tries to imteeject but katsuki waves her off.

he points toward her and you swore you could see sparks coming out of his hands. “nah fuck that, she’s a pro hero, savin’ all of your lives, putting hers on the line and all you care about is who she’s bangin’?”

you stand up and put a hand on his chest, “katsuki, stop. it’s okay. it was a joke of a question.”

your eyes widen when he said it and so did kirishima’s. the host quickly catches on and so does the audience.

“well, at least the secret’s out?” kirishima offers weakly as the crowd is still stunned. you and katsuki give him a glare as he retracts back to his seat.

you don’t think much of it at first when you spot the display near the counter, just a small stand filled with brightly colored boxes stacked neatly in rows, each one printed with chibi versions of pro heroes that you recognize immediately, and your steps slow without you realizing it as your eyes land on one very specific name.

your heart does a small, embarrassing flip.

you’re already reaching for one before you can stop yourself, turning the little box in your hands as you read the label, your brows pulling together in curiosity as you realize you can’t actually see which one is inside.

“blind box,” you mumble under your breath, tilting your head as you shake it lightly. “so you don’t know which one you’re getting…”

that’s kind of fun.

and that’s how you end up standing at the counter with six of them.

you tell yourself it’s reasonable.

it’s not.

sooner or later, once back at home, katsuki finds you sitting cross legged on the floor of the living room, surrounded by torn packaging and small plastic figures laid out neatly in front of you like some kind of ritual, your full attention locked onto them as if nothing else in the world exists.

he pauses at the doorway, one brow raising slowly.

“…the hell are you doing?”

you don’t even look up right away, too busy staring at the last unopened box in your hands like it personally offended you.

“wait,” you mutter, more to yourself than him. “this is the last one…”

he steps in anyway, boots heavy against the floor as he walks closer, arms crossing over his chest as he looks down at the mess. “you bought a bunch of junk.”

you finally look up at him, eyes narrowing slightly. “it’s not junk, it’s merch.”

he clicks his tongue. “same shit.”

hypocrite.

you ignore him completely as you tear open the last box, your movements quick with anticipation before you pull the small figure out and freeze.

your shoulders slump at the sight. “you’ve gotta be kidding me.”

katsuki leans slightly, glancing down at the lineup in front of you with mild disinterest. “what you damn pouting for?”

you gesture dramatically at the figures like it should be obvious. “look!”

he does.

there’s two of deku, one shoto, one red riot, and two lemillion.

katsuki simply blinks. “…and? are they supposed to start dancing or what?”

you stare at him like he just personally insulted you.

“and?” you repeat, your voice rising slightly. “katsuki, i bought six boxes!”

“yeah. i can count.”

“and i didn’t get you!”

he stares at you for a second, then at the figures again, then back at you. “you’re mad about that?”

“yes,” you say immediately, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

your boyfriend lets out a short, disbelieving scoff, dragging a hand down his face. “you spent money on random shit and you’re pissed you didn’t get the one you wanted, unbelievable.”

“that’s the point of blind boxes,” you argue, pointing at the empty packaging around you. “you don’t know what you’re getting, that’s what makes it fun.”

he narrows his eyes at you. “that’s fucking stupid.”

you gasp softly, clearly offended. “it’s not stupid, it’s exciting, kats!”

“it’s a damn scam. you’re getting scammed.”

you huff, crossing your arms as you glance back down at the figures, your lips forming a small pout. “deku is supposed to be the rare one,” you mutter. “and i got two of him. two! and not a single dynamight.”

katsuki’s gaze flicks to the two identical figures. “so you got the rare one of that damn nerd deku twice?”

“yes.”

“and yet you’re still whining like the brat that you are.”

“because i didn’t get you!” you glare at him.

katsuki rolls his eyes at that, rolling his shoulders slightly as he looks away like the whole conversation is beneath him.

“tch. idiot.”

you blink. “excuse me?!”

he gestures vaguely at the figures on the floor. “i’m one of a kind,” he says flatly. “you’re not gonna pull me out of some cheap box.”

cocky bastard.

you stare at him for a second, then hum softly, your pout deepening just a little as you tilt your head, an idea crossing your mind.

“yeah… i guess.”

he doesn’t notice the shift in your tone.

not yet.

you pick up one of the deku figures, turning it in your fingers with fake consideration.

“maybe they just didn’t bother making you,” you say lightly, your voice soft and innocent as you glance up at him. “like maybe you’re not popular enough for it.”

there’s a pause.

a very quiet pause.

katsuki’s head snaps toward you slowly, his eyes narrowing into a sharp glare. “what the hell did you just say?”

“what? i’m just saying. they made deku rare, so maybe they just—” you blink at him, all wide eyes and confusion.

“yeah no, i heard you.” his jaw tightens.

you shrug lightly, looking back down at the figures like it doesn’t matter. “it’s fine,” you add casually. “i mean, i already have the real you, right? i don’t need a keychain.”

that should have fixed it.

it doesn’t.

katsuki stares at you for a long second, something unreadable flickering in his expression before he clicks his tongue sharply and turns on his heel. “whatever.”

you watch him walk out, the front door slamming shut behind him with enough force to rattle the walls.

you stare at the door for a second then you look down at the figures in front of you and you smile just a little.

hook, line, and sinker.

katsuki was gone for a while.

long enough that you almost start to wonder if you pushed too far.

then after hours, the door swings open again without warning, and you look up just in time to see katsuki step inside, arms full of something.

a lot of boxes.

you blink. “kats?”

he doesn’t answer right away, just walks in and drops them all onto the floor in front of you with a heavy thud, the cardboard shifting and stacking messily as they settle.

you stare at them silently.

there’s no way.

“what is this? where did you go?”

katsuki crosses his arms, looking down at you like this is the most obvious thing in the world. “there,” he says bluntly. “now you’ve got dynamight.”

you stare at him, then at the boxes, then back at him. “these are… the blind boxes?”

“tch. yeah! what the hell do they look like?!”

“you can’t be sure there’s a dynamight one in there.”

“i am sure, damn it!”

you blink slowly. “how?”

katsuki clicks his tongue, clearly annoyed that you’re even asking. “i found where they make ‘em.”

you freeze. “excuse m– you what?!”

“the damn factory,” he continues like it’s nothing, jerking his chin slightly. “told ‘em to give me the dynamight ones.”

you stare at him, your brain struggling to catch up.

“you told them...”

“yeah.”

“to give you the dynamight ones.”

“yeah.”

you sit there for a second, then gesture helplessly at the entire pile. “which one?”

he looks at you like you just asked the dumbest question possible.

“all of ‘em.”

your mouth falls open slightly. “katsuki—”

“do whatever the hell you want with ‘em,” he cuts you off, already turning away as if the conversation is over. “put ‘em in your bags, your shelves, your damn closet, i don’t care.”

you blink at him. “you bought all of these for me?”

“took them.”

“katsuki bakugo! you stormed in there and stole them?!”

katsuki looked at you almost offended. “i am one of the heroes they make plastic toys of! the hell you mean i stole them?! i asked for them, brat!”

“okay, daddy chill. you just made it sound like you just stole them.”

“the fuck did you just call me?!”

you ignored him as you stared at the mountain of boxes again, then back at him, your lips twitching despite yourself.

“you’re insane. i love you so much.”

he scoffs, not even bothering to deny it. “you’re the one whining over cheap plastic… tch… and i love you too.”

you pick up one of the boxes slowly, turning it in your hands before glancing up at him with a small, amused smile.

“I still cannot believe you really went to the factory… hell, i cannot believe you even found the factory!”

katsuki merely shrugs, like it’s nothing. “had to fix your damn whining.”

“you’re obsessed with me,” you teased as you bit back a laugh, shaking your head slightly as you look down at the box again.

he doesn’t respond, but you can feel his eyes on you, sharp and steady.

and when you finally open one of the boxes and see the small chibi version of him staring back at you, you can’t help the quiet smile that spreads across your face.

“ahhhh— ohmygoodnesslookathim! i love him so much! look at him, kats! it’s like a baby version of you in your hero costume! this is staying with me wherever i go forever and forever!”

katsuki watches it happen, his expression shifting just slightly, something satisfied settling in his chest as he looks away.

“tch,” he mutters under his breath. “damn right.”

⠀⠀⠀katsuki bakugo, pro hero dynamite, infamously known for his brooding attitude and stoic glare that'd been deemed far scarier than any villain attack. the man with an egregious ego, and the talent to back it up. a man no one would expect to have the balls to settle down and commit to someone, no less an ordinary civilian.

⠀⠀⠀the contrast between the two of you, both visually and physically, was truly astounding. an awestrucking sight for the mere citizens eye as you hauled him from within the confinement of your shared apartment on his sole off day. the talk of the town, the front page of the daily newspaper, you two'd become. something he had grown dreadingly used to over the course of his years as a pro hero.

⠀⠀⠀it wasn't as if he kept you a secret. the entirety of japan was well aware he was taken and off limits. from the pink bento box you'd prepare his food in, which he confidently ate in the public eye. or, the cute tiny bows you'd clip onto the spikes of his hair whilst he got ready in the morning, not a care in the world from the man who'd eagerly kiss you prior to leaving the apartment without a second thought.

BAKUGOU KATSUKI

♤ You’re definitely one of the most challenging people he has fought because you were capable of changing the weather into one that puts him at a disadvantage. Normally, you would create hail/snow to prevent him from using his quirk. It’s usually on a much smaller scale, you would summon large clouds that could either summon thunderclouds, snow clouds, or rain clouds. But even if it’s considered a small scale, it’s still powerful and you have good control of your quirk. 

♤ Bakugou acknowledges your abilities and sees you as a really strong individual with an amazing quirk. It took him a long time for him to actually convince you to train with him. You’re always avoiding him because he usually yells at you so it’s no surprise. But when he manages to drag you, he will not stop dragging you. As much as he likes having a challenge, he always ends up either being electrocuted, getting wet, or suffering from potential hypothermia. 

It occurred to me when posting this gifset and rambling in the tags about the colouring...

As a fandom we've talked a lot about the recurring cinematography themes/motifs in this show and one of them is specifically about lighting and colour:

When Xie Zheng is alone he is often filmed lit by blue light... emphasising the coldness and impersonality of his existence as the Marquis.

Changyu, on the other hand, is almost always lit in warm yellows and oranges, the colours of fire. She is warmth and comfort - his warmth and comfort. And there are several scenes where - visually - she literally brings warmth and light into his life, bringing warm orange light into a blue-lit scene.

And then here... we have the Marquis making a weapon for her, forging a weapon of war from the broken remains of her butcher's knives, symbolically encapsulating her transition from small town butcher woman to a military leader...
